Sharing an empty apartment tour we filmed before our movers arrived in NYC! We recently moved from NC to NYC for my husband's job and, while we probably won't live here forever, we're excited for this new chapter. The apartment is over 100 years old and located in Manhattan.

I would use that small living room as a dining room. And use the front/foyer room as a proper cute foyer/ small sitting room. It would be so much cuter and practical

Love the apartment! If you decided to use the actual living room you could place the back of the sofa in front of the french doors so you can use the larger wall for your t.v. Sofas don't always have to be on a wall.

I truly CANNOT believe how much you did to make this space a home - I just came from your current video showing us how you ultimately decorated the space & WoW! You did such an amazing job - and in a relatively short time.. You put so much work into it & I can't believe you have to take it all down now! It's making me tired just thinking about it! Lol! But I'm sure your new space will be wonderful as well....Can't wait to see how you transform that one! Also, I live in a prewar building - 1926 - up in Westchester & I really got some great inspiration from your finished space - so thank you!! Think I will copy & paste this comment over there as well so hopefully you will see it !

Contrary to current popular beliefs, NYC has MANY LARGE APARTMENTS! The problem is that the NEWER, more recently built , millennial attracting , modern apartments, are the ones getting all the attention. I am in an old building. My neighbor has a one bedroom that fits a King and Queen bed at the same time, plus a dresser, chest of drawers and 2 night tables. Perfect for Kids to share. Plus she divided her living room so that she has a second bedroom that has two windows a radiator and a full sized bed. Her living room is still large enough to have a window and radiator as well. The kitchen is huge! It's an eat in kitchen with a huge round table for four, plus she has 2 windows, stove, fridge, washing machine, and a separate deep freezer. She has about 6 closets , one of which is a walk in. Best part is that it's rent stabilized! She's been there for about 16 years and is paying about $1100. Brooklyn, The Bronx, Queens and SOME parts of Manhattan are full of these gems. The sad part is that to many millennials, they are considered old and outdated because there are no dishwashers, or stainless steel appliances and open concept floor plans.
@PrettyinthePines
@PrettyinthePines 4 жыл бұрын
Maybe that is also why I was only interested in seeing the old ones. I have friends who have more modern BEAUTIFUL brand new apartments and insane views with dishwashers/washers/dryers but they're about 600-700 sqft whereas ours I believe is 1400 sqft. Coming from a 3 bedroom house in NC, I didn't want to downsize THAT much. So I kept to the older large ones. That is CRAZY about the rent being stabilized - how amazing for her.

@@PrettyinthePines, thanks for the reply! I LOVE the old, prewar apartments. They have CHARACTER!!! I love the archways, the huge rooms and the SEPARATE, large, eat in kitchens and intricate floor plans. My décor style is a combo of Victorian, French Baroque, Rococo and these old apartments lend themselves beautifully to this style as well as the more glam and modern décor. My furniture would look SO out of place in the newer apartments. I really like your apartment's floor plan. I am excited to see what you do with your space. I'm getting ready to watch your kitchen makeover!☺

By NYC standards, that's a BIG apartment, especially for just two people. The important missing amenity is washer and dryer which, with an old building's plumbing, would probably be very costly to install. Units of this size with an elevator in Manhattan are usually very expensive, though with that extra bedroom someone could have roommates if cost was critical. You were lucky to find this gem!

This is a while ago. But if you haven’t figured out what to do with that living room. You could buy a foldable projector screen and a projector. When you want to watch tv you could plug in your phone or laptop (some projectors let you cast as well) and put the screen in front of the double doors. Put the projector on your coffee table in front of the sofa. When you don’t want to watch anything, put away the projector and screen. Then you can decorate however you want because the tv is essentially portable. Anyway, your flat is lovely. Stay safe. :)

i would rather have the living room in the first room u showed us, the tv would be on the large wall across the french doors so the couch would be facing on that direction. and when u enter the gorgeous french doors would be the dining room it would make more sense since its beside the kitchen. and a little breakfast nook at the corner windows if there is enough room lol. u have an amazing apartment

You can get portable washer/dryers too! I bought one when I lived in a studio with no washer/dryer and hated going to a laundry mat. Only downsize is they only spin dry your clothes so it gets most of the water out but you'll have to hang to dry. But it beat leaving every time I needed to do laundry!
