Even as a reppin Dallas, Texian, I'm still bumping this in 23. A common misconception is that down south hip-hop fans were not fans of East Coast hip-hop. Quite the contrary, cats like Jadakiss and Fat Joe inspired so many of us down here. Bruhhh… You gotta go listen to his early music!!!! Irv was the one who changed Ja because of the DMX and Jay Z rumors. Murda Inc. wasn’t a label initially… it was a super group with Ja X and Jay. And at that time, Ja didn’t have an album out or solo success. So of course, people didn’t consider Ja to be on the other guys’ level of commercial success and appeal. And after Ja’s debut, the comparisons became unbearable. Jay was all about being cool and flossing… X was grimey and had the streets… So Ja decided to make music for the clubs and the ladies.
