definitely considering getting rustin dustin, i could picture whiff helping workers help build dustin as sir topham hatt needs an engine to help on a branchline, building that model reminds me of Lego

This model solves one of the major issues with zany trains in that all the models have the same shape

Somehow, Rustin Dustin looks more like a real engine than the other Zany Trains characters. Plus I really like the Wooden Railway Lego train concept behind this.

Now where have i've seen those bricks before, its plastic texture looks very similar to the lego sets exclusive to the gift shop at the Golden Spike National Historical Park.

I think so, this engine was made this way because the character is meant to be a hodgepodge of parts and always falling apart. So I see it as a wooden Railway model because the base is wood and it's meant for use in the ZanyTrains line of Wooden trains! :)
