Nar mate. Tanks have very limited use in our part of the world( pacific). The USMC thinks the same thing and decommissioned their last tanks this year. We are moving on from land wars in the Middle East. Indo/ pacific is what everyone is gearing up for and that has very limited use for heavy vehicles like tanks.

When you replace your Anzac class frigates i'd love to see you get something like an evolved Absalon class flexible support frigate. Similar to Iver Hutfeilt its a hybrid between a frigate and military transport ship with multiple role capabilities with the capacity to be transformed from a combat ship with the firepower of a traditional frigate to a hospital ship within a day. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/n99iismEsLuZYmg.html No point having just another frigate like everyone else in the region and being so small a navy you may as well bring something different and unique to the table that can fill humanitarian ,transport ,command and combat roles. Any potential task force that you join you can bring all that extra cargo space below deck along with vehicles and an extra helicopter to help hunt Subs. That's a valuable point of difference and asset to any coalition.
@regregan5755
@regregan5755 2 жыл бұрын
Replace the frigates with frigates AND get an absalon to replace the long lost and needed 3rd frigate (we once had 4). More options, literally, and an easier sell than just another pure frigate. We still need proper frigates though but we also could do with more sealift so win win. Could even make the frigates Ivers for commonalitys sake.

Canadian Army used LAV 3s extensively in Kandahar province for years. Based on Afganistan usuage the LAV 6 is significantly up armoured has better mine protection, more powerful engine, better target aquaistion and a number of other changes. but elevation was not considered an issue. There is a unmanned turret version in the works that might have more elevation.

@@SASCAT1972 so you are comparing ASLAV to NZLAV?? We purposely did not get ASLAV as it would have been buying into old equipment/technology instead of new and for something that literally has to last decades in service that is a bigger consideration in terms of future proofing. Just because Australia buys something does not then automatically equate to it then being cheaper for us as they generally spend more on their equipment in the first place, check out their current boxer prices as an example, difference being they have the funding to do so.
@SASCAT1972
@SASCAT1972 2 жыл бұрын
@@regregan5755 mate I don’t disagree with your logic at all. My point is that NZDF typically hangs onto gear well beyond economical replacement point. At the time ASLAV was purchased, we had no idea that LAV III was coming 10 years later. Look at all the mods done to the fleet to send them to Bosnia…even the T50 turrets were cut for NV equipment only to weld them back when the USA wouldn’t supply to us.

@@SuspiciousGreenSock Not by hercs, that's for sure. The only time that was tried here the flight lasted less than an hr. The max safe take off weight of a herc is less than even the average the weight of a lav, and the height of a hercs interior would mean that lav would need to have its turret removed and partly stripped down as well . Also, if the lav had cage armour as seen in Afghanistan on, no way in hell would that fit inside a herc. I'm thinking they would of come into theatre by either our Canterbury, or allies ships, or their C17. Facts bro.😆
