Great job! Lots of flavors in one bite. Suggestion: I would put the bacon wrapped hot dogs and onions on a baking tray in the oven and bake them. Ideally the bacon should be cooked a lot more so it's not so pale, with more fat cooked off, it will get darker and it will shrink tight to the hot dog. Brings out a lot more of the bacon flavor and it will be chewier. Easier to cook too! ☺️

Really, to do the bacon right, you need to torch them after baking or just cook them in an air fryer. It will just be varying levels of soggy otherwise.
@BTinSF

Yeah, the bacon did look undercooked to me too. But the hot dog vendors around here do grill them so it can be done though it's probably easier to use an air fryer. Also it's hard for me to believe they have guacamole in NZ but not actual avocados. Avocado slices would be more authentic.

I get mine without the onions and peppers because I don't like them but I love watching people have them for the first time. These are everywhere in the southern part of our state. I don't know her age, but any young guy would be so lucky to find her when she reaches age and decides to have a family. I love all of her cooking videos, she makes it fun and she is very very talented for her younger age! Love you New Zealand Fam, greetings from Nebraska, home of the "Runza", but I have much better recipes that were passed through the generations when my family immigrated to USA. I know the Nebraska "official food" does not sound too appealing, but if made right and with good seasonings depending on taste, they are awesome. I like mine with very peppery ground beef, saurkraut, and a just a slice of cheese, but the pastry/dough is SO important in making it all work. Bless you all!

Sonora is a province in northern Mexico. The Sonoran Desert extends through Sonora & southern AZ. That's where you will find the rare saguaro cactus - the one that looks like a bandit with its arms up! The deserts bloom around February-March - incredibly beautiful! Anzo-Borrego desert in southern California, near Salton Sea, is another one that blooms beautifully, and same with Joshua Tree, a fabulous national park in California, not far from Palm Springs/Palm Desert (great cities!). Unfortunately, cactus-blooming season is quite short.

THAT’S what I’m talking bout!! GREAT JOB!!! The sonoran hotdog was brought to Tucson from Sonora, Mexico. We LOVE them too!! Arizona was once PART of the State of Sonora. When I make them I use “pico de gallo” instead of hot sause or “salsa” and chopped tomatos. Pico de Gallo literally means “peck of rooster” referring to the bite from the chilies 🌶️ in it. It is made with chopped tomatoes, onions, chilies 🌶️, cilantro and lime juice (and sometimes avacados). I use avacado oil to kind of coat it all and blend it.

Makes sense that you would think of Mexico when you think of this food, as it originated in Hermosillo, the capital of the Mexican state of Sonora. It's a fairly recent food though, originating in the late 1980's. Typically the dish isn't served with a traditional hotdog bun, they're served with a bolillo-style bun which is more open to accommodate all the toppings. Never heard of using refried beans though, most come with pinto beans and salsa.

AZ is my home. the Sonoran desert is in Mexico California and Arizona. all well known for Mexican food. AZ is bordered by Mexico on the south side of the state...all the way across. I live almost on that border, the mountain range called the Huachuca mountains separates my home from Mexico. when I use bacon as a wrap for hot dogs I either cook it part way before wrapping my hot dogs or I wrap them then broil in the oven til the bacon becomes a bit crispy but not so crunchy it breaks into crumbs when u bite into it. that way the hot dogs dont get overcooked while the bacon is undercooked.

Here in Tucson, Arizona, they don't typically use hot sauce. Rather they give you one or two grilled jalapeños alongside the hotdog so you can eat a bite of jalapeño with each bite of hot dog. I made friends with my local vendor and he would give me 3 peppers. I live about 40 miles (almost 70 km) from Mexico (the Mexican state of Sonora, town of Nogales).

Atlanta, for best results always buy your olive oil in glass bottles, not plastic. In plastic bottles the plastic oxidizes and leeches into the olive oil. You need to buy it in a dark bottle. Preferably a green bottle if you can find one. Also olive oil should taste good. It should smell good and taste like nuts, grass, with an aftertaste of pepper.

I would agree with Picky Pants, it needs to be cooked longer for the bacon to brown and crisp up. The flavor will be brought out so much more. When wrapping the bacon to cook it, you can put a toothpick to hold it to the "Hotdog". Then take the toothpick off after as it will not need it anymore as the bacon has stuck to the hotdog. Otherwise nice job. Keep up the good work Atlanta

Have lived in Arizona for over 20 years. Have never had a Sonoran hot dog. Not actually the official state food…Apache trout is. Chimichangas and Indian fry bread ( Navajo tacos too ) are more common. Atlanta, you need to get a recipe for the fry bread. It is delicious! Really good with drizzled honey and a dusting of powdered sugar…Yum !!

I've been to Arizona and had multiple versions of the Sonoran hot dog. It's definitely one of my favorite types of hot dog and I've recreated it many times. A few tips: the bacon should be crispy. Some variations will simply be topped with bacon bits rather than wrapped if it's easier. Also, if you can get hold of Cotija cheese there, it's awesome crumbled onto a Sonoran dog. Thanks for the videos!

Arizona native here. Now in Pennsylvania. Pull the bun apart a little bit before you add the toppings. That way more can be pulled on. Great job Atlanta. You are becoming a fabulous chef.

For Ohio, you should try “Skyline Chili Three Way!” It’s a beef chili with no beans, odd spices like cinnamon- served on top of spaghetti noodles with a PILE of cheese on top. So odd sounding, but SO GOOD!

I worked a tournament for two weeks in Los Mochis, Mexico....the final game of the night always ended late. I could have walked down to the team hotel for some sort of meal but thankfully for me, right across the street was a cart, open to the wee hours of the morning, selling these wonderful Sonoran dogs. It was a wonderful two weeks :)

Great job, Atlanta, as always, li'l sister! I love how Kylo got to have a nice cameo too heehee. Arizona is right on the border of Mexico and is mostly desert terrain. The culture we would consider "Southwestern" and some of the most beautiful Native American arts and crafts can be found in the state. Fun fact to note when traveling across state lines in Arizona (and also New Mexico), it is against state laws to bring any produce across in either direction. I remember as a child on vacation once we had to eat a whole bushel of peaches before we could enter the state and proceed further with our travels. This can especially be an issue when leaving California where there is no such thing as bad produce. They have arguably some of 5he best fruits/veggies on the planet. Probably one reason so many of them are vegans.

Jim is widely used as a shortened version of "James" in much the same way that "Bob" and "Rob" are short for Robert and "Bill" for William. There are also diminutive forms, Jimmy, Jamie, Bobby, Robby, Willy, Billy. Some people are specific about which form of their name they use, but other people are looser with it or use different forms in different contexts (e.g., formal vs casual, or their family may call them by a different form than everyone else). Most traditional American names have at least one variant form, and the most common ones have several.
