The LMT enhanced bolts are in fact made from AERMET 100. It's main alloying metals are Cobalt and Nickel and is an ultra high strength steel which is super tough and resistant to fracture.

Its funny. A 16" AR makes a terrible bayonet platform. I was reminded of this last week when I brought Mosin Nagant to the range for my daughter to try. It's a 4 foot long rifle with an 18 inch long bayonet. It makes quite the spear once it's all put together. If two opposing soldiers both had catastrophic failures and were down to bayonets, the soldier with the Mosin would have a more than 2 foot reach advantage. The Mosin makes quite a spear.

Can confirm that the general issue version is EXTREMELY reliable when it comes to firing. The blanks can be hit or miss, but when firing live you will almost never see a stoppage that isn't caused by issues created by the user. The main issues I've had are the gas tube roll pin walking out, causing the tube to push out half an inch. And the bolt catch lever becoming stuck due to idiots dropping the hammer with the lower separated... it slowly causes the deformation of the aluminum when done by dozens of soldiers through its lifespan. They also retain 1 to 1.5 MOA after literally thousands of rounds through the barrel with only a bore snake after firing. Never see anyone use Hoppes copper solvent, and of you do then say goodbye to your groups till you foul the barrel again.

The longer rail is definitely better especially for firing off of barricades/windows and such. The Surefire Warcomps suck though. They're bad suppressor mounts and as compensators they really over drive the gun and it makes it feel like the rifle is recoiling downwards. It's really weird. I've tried the open tine version and the closed tine version. The closed tine version isn't quite as bad as the open tine version as far as the compensator goes but it still has the downward recoil effect. Personally the tuning fork sound has never bothered me and I don't really understand why it drives some people crazy. It's kinda cool imo. It isn't like its gonna give your position away--It's not louder than the gunshots that cause the ring lol. It must have something to do with the tone or something. The 3 prong or the 4 prong is much better and they have the added benefit of being better mounts for the RC2 and especially the RC3. The warcomps are notorious for carbon lock. Otherwise these rifles are really cool. The only real downside to the LMT uppers is they seem to get really, really hot. However, if you're shooting suppressed it really doesn't matter what handguard you have its just gonna get really hot and there is no way around it. LMT enhanced bolt/bcg vs KAC? I wonder which is the better solution.

I do wonder. Given the proliferation of midlength 14.5" barrels in the industry now and the fact that even LMT offers a 14.5" midlength gas barrel of their own, I wonder why they didn't go with those instead on the SOF rifles. The LMT Enhanced BCG seems to be engineered with carbine 14.5" in mind, so could it be said that the Enhanced BCG would not be as necessary given the longer dwell time offered by the midlength gas on the 14.5"?
@DBravo29er
@DBravo29er Ай бұрын
I've used the E-Carrier on a 16" KAC mod-2 upper that I optimized for 90% suppressed use. Worked great with the KAC E3 Bolt/cam pin and resulted in a vastly smoother-shooting gun and a MUCH cleaner upper receiver (and empty brass). The envelope of use for the Enhanced Carrier is actually really broad. As Karl Lewis has said, merely the original design focus for the E-BCG/E-Carrier was to address issues in 10.3" to 14.5" barrels. But you can technically run them in a 20" M16A4...just might get some excess carrier velocity with hotter ammo.

Idk if you are a dad Chris, but if so Happy Father's Day. Nice rifle but I never understood the choice of muzzle device. The warcomp from what I've heard is not great in small spaces and the warcomp does not have the labyrinth seals to prevent carbon lock. Lastly, the warcomp decreases the signature reduction of the surefire suppressors.

Question? Is the standard New Zealand Contract rifle piston driven? Yet the special forces rifle is direct impingement. If anybody puts a silencer on a rifle, wouldn't you want a piston driven? Looks like a good pistol grip on both.

LMT offers a 14.5” mid-length gas system. Joe Haney had to get permission from their clients first but it was approved. They actually offer both now. That would have eliminated the need for the enhanced BCG

The Estonian rifle is nice as well. Pretty much unobtanium from what I'm told. All the poors will have to go with internal piston lol

The actual Estonian reference rifle may be hard to get ahold of, but as with the New Zealand examples, you can build something pretty darn close using standard LMT parts (you may need to settle for a 14.5" barrel instead of the 14.3" version Estonia spec'ed for some bizarre reason). And now that the contract has been fulfilled, it's much easier to get stuff out of LMT.

Can someone please explain WHY if the US Army is going to replace service rifles for combat arms units, they didn't go with the Infantry variant seen here? Like... they spent just as much, if not more money, on the Carbine Replacement Program in the 2010s and then buying the Sig M7 after incomplete testting as just replacing these forcewide, keeping 95% the same logistical chain, and platform familiarity. Oh, and let's not forget, supporting an American company versus a foreign one. Yes, I understand the M7, the M250, the M249 and the M240 are all made here in the states, but they're all manufactured by foreign companies.

"Militaries don't want parts interchanged, hence the serial numbered uppers, Bolts and bolt carriers" *Laughs in Canadian Armed Forces not giving a single fuck and literally randomly interchanging bolts before, during and after every single range, course, and exercise to the point nobody knows which BCG originally went with each rifle unless it just happened to have a serial number etched or engraved into it.
