Tonight, underdogs Argentina look to make their first-ever World Cup Final. But standing in their way are the mighty All Blacks, knowing a fourth title is in their reach. So, how will the two teams approach the game, what can either time target, and can their quarter-final tactics work again?

Im a Kiwi who put money on an All Blacks vs France final with France winning. But I also picked the Pumas to win bronze. I toured Argentina as a schoolboy and love this country a lot. We were a U16 team who had won the National U15 tournament the year before. We were a maori boys boarding school of 400 and one of the top rugby schools in New Zealand going against schools with 3 or 4 times as many boy students. This National U15 tournament had the 20 best rugby schools in the nation, including three future All Blacks. Two would go on to become All Blacks legends. So we were good. We played six of the top clubs in Argentina in five different cities during the 21 day tour. We were billeted with each team and stayed with their families. Wonderful, loving, hospitable people. And they definitely know how to party. We had such a good time with them. Being Maori put us in good stead in Argentina because our vowels were the same, so we picked up basic spanish pretty easy. We got on with them like a house on fire. They have a lot of similarities to us. Amazing people, culture, and country. And they were very tough and skilled on the rugby paddock. We saw Hamilton Boys High, the current best 1st xv in the world, who had also toured, at the Buenos Aires airport on the way home. They had stayed exclusively at hotels and said by the end of their tour they were getting bored. We said "You should have stayed with the people like we did" A magical tour. I'll always support the Pumas. Just not tomorrow.

It's worth noting that while Jason Ryan has absolutely done fantastic work since coming into the squad, that it is actually Greg Feek who is the scrum coach. After spending around a decade in the Irish scene with Leinster and the National team after he'd also worked with the Hurricanes in Super Rugby.

In the first half, I noticed Argentina kicking low line drives instead of the long high balls I'm used to seeing from other teams. Was that Argentina saying, "Have this kick earlier than you expected, so you kick earlier and negate your kick chase." Or was it just low line drive kicks were kinda mis-kicks?

I know there's some Northern Hemisphere bias there but Foster is also pretty capable of strike plays, or predetermined phases as well and have unlocked many a defense over the years. Not taking anything away from Schmidt I just think it's pretty presumptious to say it's all Schmidt when it comes to how they set up that try. We all know of his genius as well as Fozzie's

Arg are happy to play without the ball, kicking into the opponents half and chase penalties and turnovers through Montoya, Isa, Kremer and Creevy and score with Bofelli, Carreras and Sanchez off the tee. If the ABs don’t find a way to score multiple tries, they have nothing guaranteed Pumas players are dispersed who don’t play club matches together, put them in a camp without the ridiculous travel, and they become a formidable team. Maiden win over ABs was after a quarantine in Aus too.

Idk, where people get this idea that NZ couldn't play set-piece rugby or aren't dominant in the rucks, pre-Joe Schmidt? All Kiwis know the best NZ set-piece rugby comes from Canterbury, not Schmidt. If I remember correctly, Schmidt lost in 07 with the Blues to the Sharks??? but don't quote me on that. The point is that NZ set-piece rugby has always stemmed from Canterbury, where Schmidt played no part, even to this day! What Schmidt brought to IRE is a different story. So the only thing I can think of that Schmidt can bring to the table is his knowledge of northern hemisphere personnel and tendencies. As shown in 12:30. But playing-wise, nothing has changed from NZ.

I think Clayton might be up there with the way the chiefs forward pack has been going in recent years too but will be hard to see if that's still in good stead after Brodie and likely Cane depart after this year (I don't think he's announced anything but personally I can't see Sam staying on another year) I think the abs would do well to announce a new full time captain for the next world cup cycle in any case. Most of the Argie games have been an arm wrestle. Their defence keeps them in. They don’t normally break a team. The ABs normally win by just breaking them. The times they one, the completed up front and th ABs didn’t get enough possession to break them open. This will be a loser game to the wire OR it will be a close game with a flattering score from a 20min period that blows out the score.

Believe me I want Argies to win this match, however I have to be realistic, without gettting to a techical level of explanation, I'm taking the latest performance of both teams, The Pumas had an awful starting and yes, they improved their performance, specially vs Wales, but is that good enough?, on the other hand The All Blacks had a really exponential improvement, if The pumas have any chance to win this game it will be determined because All Blacks will get yellow and red cards, make silly mistakes at critical areas, and bad discipline, so however the Pumas will play, if those conditions are not in place, All Blacks will win easily.

our only real advantage is that the AB's be absolutely condescending to us (like most of the anglo Tier 1 teams are towards us) and frustrate them cause things don't go their way. I honestly don't see it happening though.

@@Rukhage I'm not sure what u want to say, Top teams don't respect the Pumas?, nonsense, sounds like u haven't been watching the vids & podcast about Argentina team, but honestly, Argentina started the RWC with the wrong foot, while everybody was expecting Argies to play like before, great rugby.

@@ArdoEdu it's more of an ingrained bias I've seen from teams in general not giving the Pumas credit. Then again it's probably just the pundits always talking out of their asses. I hope that changes as time goes by.

Imagine these two at Chrissy dinner, dissecting if the roast is better than years prior, what roasts could lay ahead, what should accompany the roast to make it better, optimum cooking time and heat, the other family members have no idea what’s unfolding but it all some how makes sense.
