I always feel English folk traditions are done with a bit of embarrassment!It wasn’t always so,just ramp it up and enjoy it.

@curtis866 Yes, we do need more of this, you fifth columnist twit. This is the kind of artistry of which any culture should be proud. Why would the world not want more good stuff?

@@curtis866 I think you're a very sad man to hate your own heritage so much you keep replying to people enjoying their culture and traditions with denigration and vitriol. You should love who you are more and enjoy everything you can, even if it's something as simple as a form of dance. It's the most human thing, to dance and to enjoy at least the sight of it. It's something every culture and country shares. Every nation has its own traditional dance, and this is ours.

As the Tommy was saying, the dancers pay in blood. I know the blond lass on the fiddle, and she dances too. Last time I met her, he hands were covered in scars... To experience the full impact of this dance you have to be in a pub session when the Kingsmen barge in and flashmob you. All the musicians quicky get their instruments into their cases, because it can get quite "lively". It's really something to have these guys whirring around a few inches from your nose - terrific fun!

Can someone tell me what are they holding?
@iolar18 ай бұрын
They are called rapper swords. A flexible piece of steel with a fixed handle on one end and a handle that swivels on the other end, allowing them to keep hold of the sword while they are doing turns, etc.

It is the Rapper Sword dance performed originally by the Pitmen (coal miners) in the NorthEast of England.The Kingsmen quite often dance in the Cumberland Arms Pub in Byker,Newcastle. Some people think that the Swords used were a tool to scrape the coal dust from the backs of the Pit Ponies which were used underground to haul the coal up. Here is some old silent black and white from the early 20th Century of Pit men performing the dance.kzfaq.info/get/bejne/hL1-pLyGuJe8iJs.html....There is also Morris Dancing and Maypole dancing you could look up.
