I've read that article Rob, sounds a good alternative to get us up to the level of the so called top 6 without risking penalties like relegation or a serious points deduction. Lets hope it happens mate 🙏🙏🖤🤍🖤🤍

Luxury tax is extortion. Buy what you like as long as you pay the PL 😂a sweetener. The PL are gangsters, take legal proceedings, shut them jdown

I think it's more a case that City as well as others are in the League's sights now. Was fine when only 'minnows' were being affected by penalties but now the big boys are targets too it's a whole different ball game. The reasoning behind PSR was always suspicious anyway but when it prevents teams who can afford to pay from even keeping players it's ridiculous.

Personally no to the luxury tax, just scrap FFP if teams overspend and go under as a club so what, let them go under. These are simple business economics always has been always will be. This is just a way to make those making silly rules rich, FFP was never to protect clubs, it was always there to make those at the top rich.

Any team who broke financial regulations, Forest, Leicester, Everton, Man City still broke those regs under the time of that ruling so I don't see how any of them, especially City can get away with it under a new ruling that didn't exist at the time of their dodgy dealings

FFP is fine to cover wages and bonuses, future loan repayments etc. An owner should be able to bank roll transfer fees outside of those rules, as long as wages are covered.

Only issue is, teams competing in Europe would still have to comply with UEFA’s FFP rules, which limit club’s spending on wages, transfers and agent fees to 70 percent of the overall club revenue, so it would help us in the Premier league, but we'd be knackered for Europe.

I think there are plenty of good reasons why FFP isn't fair between clubs (established can spend more and maintain positions) but I love robs point regarding fans losing seats to corporate seats etc. Spot on and there needs to be a better solution that puts fans at the heart of decision making. I doubt it will be the regulatory body though....

Idea 2: If a club wants to spend over their preseason set budget then they must: The full value of a Player Contract over a 5 year rolling period (ie a 7 year contract, instead of being £0 after 6th & 7th year would continue to be accounted for) is put in full in to an account the day the deal is signed; like wise a structured transfer payment; so should the worst happen; those transfers are paid for and the salaries are covered for a five year period; again no debt on the club; no hung by wages you can’t get off the books 3:15 Or something like those??? 3:15

Need to hear more details. Depends where that money goes. If it goes to lower leagues or grassroots football then it's ok. I don't think it will have any impact on reducing clubs (including Newcastle) looking at every possible way to increase their revenue.

Three thoughts on this. 1. The thing I care most of all about is that Man City get punished. If this is a way to avoid that then a big no!! 2. I don’t want to just be like the other top 6 - the ones we criticise- and just buy our way to glory. I feel that would feel a bit empty in the end. 3. If the money from fines is distributed between teams that didn’t get fined then the whole idea suddenly becomes a lot lot interesting and attractive. It goes some way to offsetting the imbalances.

Luxury tax won’t be retrospective. City and Chewsi will still have to take the consequence. I reckon stopping clubs bankrupting themselves is a great idea. But you’re spot on about having a level playing field. The top six have essentially pulled the ladder up after them in terms of the elite footballer market. I particularly think the idea around not having to pimp out the stadium to corporate buyers is a good one. We’ll need a different government to get that through, though.

Ive said this before, my view on it was that, any club that pays over a certain amount like £50m say, has to pay a tax ontop that gets filtered down the football leagues, with no puninshment on the clubs spending on transfers. Also, football is the only business i know of in the world that you can own a business and aren't allowed to invest your own money in to it.

My idea(s): Whatever they spend over their preseason determined budget x 5 times that goes into a rolling 5 year escrow account (an account the owners can’t take money out of) then should they leave and a knew buyer not be able to cover those higher costs the club have access to 5 years of money covering the over spend; meaning the club won’t be thrown in to massive dept or hung by massive wages. It gives a club 5 years to get their numbers straight under new owners or similar eg fan buy out?

If 2 or 3 clubs pay the tax, how much would each other club actually get from it and would it even be worth it for them. Would only work if the majority of the clubs were taxed and only a few got that money shared between them but then if redtbof league is spending what they want, the clubs who don't are fucked anyway cos they still won't be able to compete
@leightonwaugh8713
@leightonwaugh8713 2 ай бұрын
@Magpie74 depends on the how much they over spend and the percentage of the fine. But owners of smaller teams won't be complaining of free money coming in. That could help with there recruitment, infrastructure etc. Why would they disapprove it? Let's be honest, the economy now, these teams, no matter what the ruling is are too far behind to become so competitive

Who is actually talking about a luxury tax and what would be the point in it? We'd still have to comply with UEFAs rules regarding P&S rules to be able to compete in their competitions!! What needs to happen is to get rid of the rules that stop owners sponsoring their own clubs.

FFP was brought in to stop teams spending more than they earn, this was to stop clubs buying themselves into oblivion, but now they can spend what they haven’t got, then be fined for it? Which means they lose even more money? Also what will this mean with UEFA and their rules. But as long as the premier league has clubs putting millions from fines into their bank balance it will be fine.

FFP was always about making sure teams like us and I hate to say it Villa, stay below the "Big Six". But now, FFP could bite the biggest member of the "Big Six" they have to protect their largest commodity. Protect City from fatal punishments and bring in a punishment which is the equivalent to a slap on the wrist. but who cares, FFP changes and it benefits us now so I'll take this favouritism with a smile.

About time this inconsistent nonsense was abolished. The Premier League have been behaving like playground bullies in slapping points deductions on Everton and Forest whilst doing sweet FA to Man City and Chelsea. No surprise there. Reckon they didn't much fancy taking on Man City and Chelsea's army of elite lawyers, do you? In reality you are never going to have a level playing field but the clubs outside the top 6 should be allowed to catch up. Otherwise the top 6 might as well be in that European Super League as they will be so far out of reach for the rest. Time for us to flex our financial muscles and put the fear of God in Man City and the like. Bring it on!
