We learn how to improvise over the 12 bar blues in C major using a single hand grip. A simple and easy approach to blues piano solo playing.
We improvise blues over the "7-chords": C7, F7 and G7.

Absolutely brilliant. After so many years of trying to improvise you make it as easy as a child's game. Now I can actually play a blues tune and take a solo that sounds a lot more advanced than I am. Almost feels like cheating. Thank you for what you doing here.

I discovered Oliver and NewJazz about six months ago...after having reviewed all shapes, sizes and sex of those teaching jazz piano. There are several who are top notch, but Oliver's voice, clarity, pacing and personality make him my TOP, Top Notch. I'm very hard of hearing, so all of those characteristic make a big difference. Thanks, Oliver...you make us work lonnng...and hard...but it's sure rewarding.

Thanks , Oliver! I am an ex US Naval officer who sang semi professionally/professionally for many tears. Music was a very large part of my life. About 4 years ago I had a life altering incident that affected my singing voice and the full use of my left hand (I am left hand dominant). While i dabbled a bit on guitar, i never really became proficient at any musical instrument. My latest conviction is to finally start learning some piano so Music can ome back into my life. Currently awaiting delivery of my keyboard, I realize that left hand technique will be somewhat of a greater challenge than for most. Luckily modern keyboards have a simplified way of playing chords which can be taken advantage of until and when i gain greater left hand mobility. Happy to have come across your video. You have a new subscriber in me.

The solo is a dialogue. Putting on the brakes is so awesome What strong first 3 fingers on your RH. They are your piano strength. The handgrip approach is unique Music first theory later is a lot more. This reflexion is CATHARSIS for me , erasing the old stuff. Thank you teacher Oliver.

I'm 38 years old and I just bought (for the first time) a digital piano a week ago. I've never played the piano before coz I'm into guitars (just a novice player). The plan is to teach my daughter to play the piano when it's already possible. Right now, she is still 8 months old. Oliver, your lessons are an invaluable source of information. Making me think that it's not too late to learn the piano at all. Thank you very very very much!

Not paying too much attention to targeting certain notes of upcoming chords leaves us with freedom what to next. However ending the short licks on a chord note gets the job done, and that OK for now. It stands that this is" NEW JAZZ"

Hello Oliver, thank you so much for your warm spirit, and mello teaching style. You make the concepts flow freely in the mind and allow the listener to process new information....I needed this type of training despite years of self taught training. Giving me some structure and especially those hand grip movements that I love. I’m more of a natural rhythm player, but this allows me not to be so boring, but rather interesting and smooth. Hi oliver i wish i had seen this 4 years ago. I have struggled to break the blues but this simple hand grip on 1 & 5 is so powerful & bluesy. I havent mastered it, but after half an hour i was making runs i used to dream about. It makes me wonder why other tutors dont teach this. The problem with classical scales we learn them from start to finish never splitting them. After years of practice this habit is very difficult to break. Ive seen so many blues where the player does runs without breaking sweat. I will eventually donate to you as you are such a good guy. Un abraço from steamy mallorca.
