What software did you use to make the video? (the annotation and such?) I can't believe this video is 6 years old and are still crisp, clear, and has a wealth of value. I'd say the only thing missing might be the timestamp, but it's so easy follow, even easier than more well-edited video today. 🙏. So thankful to have people like you on the internet.

Poor explaination of modes. Using the D Dorian mode or the F Lydian mode or ANY other mode WITHIN the scale of C major makes all the modes sound like C Major from ust a different starting note. You should have shown the modes using the same tonic note to get a proper understanding of modal sound.

and what about double harmonic minor?
@NewJazz
@NewJazz 4 күн бұрын
Hi :) Correct, we miss the double harmonic minor scale and its family members. Other scales are just as valid as the scales shown in this vid. I just made a well-defined field of study; ‘the scales of harmonies’ (explained from 12:25) to limit the total number of scales to walk through. But I believe that I’ve shown you the way and method to continue the exploration... Best regards from Oliver

Great Vid, thx. I learnd that Avoid-Notes only in relation to a Functional-Harmonic Situation should be avoided. Espacialy on Downbeats. But you showed me, that it is also possibel in a II-V-I Prog. Its realy helpfull to make some more thoughts about this term. And it is also very helpfull to have the possible Scales Graphical shown like in this Vid. thx Oliver! Whe need the Avoid-Notes to realise all the Colors of temperatet Music. I think always, the Rhytmical Positioning of Notes are very importend. I learnd so mutch things espacialy in a Practical sence from you! ANd by the Way it is also a good Ear-Training!

Thank you for this. It is both explaining a type of logic and at the same time freeing the thought of continuous repetition. This gives structure and at the same time permission to expand beyond the norm. This is Jazz for me. To experience the complexity and appreciate the virtuosity coming from a kind, compassionate, rational, voice and the very meaning full hand gestures completely captured me. Thank you for sharing this. I'm so glad to have found you and look forward to exploring more of your insights.

Hi :) Sometimes yes - it depends on the song, what sound we want and so on. In this playlist I've gathered all my lessons about blues and we also use hand grips to play 12 bar blues chord progressions kzfaq.info/sun/PLd8gNAxPUcJw5aJHoXoWvu2g8D9I0g5fe Cheers from Oliver

I believe there's a mistake in the formula of family 6. It shouldn't say W-H-W-H-W-H-W-H (as in whole-half-whole-half-etc.), but instead W-W-W-W-W-W-W (only wholes), otherwise it is identical to the diminished or family 5 on the chart, which alternates between whole and half steps.
