That’s why they shoved all that dialogue in. ‘I killed anakin’ so that obi wan didn’t technically lie to Luke ‘Then my friend is truly gone’ because obi wan didn’t try to appeal to Vader ‘Darth’ because obi wan called him darth They even had obi wan hold his lightsaber the way Alec held it in the OT haha. They crammed it all in. Which is fine.

Obi-Wan's realization that Luke just needed to be a boy first speaks exactly to Anakin not having a proper childhood resulted in him essentially believing his own hype. He was called the Chosen One without ever learning what that would entail.

Another small detail is the scar on Vader's head we see at the end of Return of the Jedi looks like it was created from Kenobi's lightsaber strike on his helmet

He had the scar, previous to this. You can see it when he’s in the bacta tank. But, it is possible that it made it more prevalent.

@@xxcrobarxx5369 this is what I thought, looking at the end of episode 2, in the bacta tank, that scar is much less visable than in RotJ. Considering bacta tanks are supposed to heal you, there must have been further trauma that contributed to it becoming larger

Idk if it’s just me, but I think it might be somewhat intentional that Ashoka and Obi-wan both struck and destroyed each side of vaders helmet when they fought. Ahs- right side, and Obi- left side, signifying now that Anakin is no more. Both duels starting with the Light sider in denial that they’re really fighting their own family. Then after seeing Anakin under the monster of Vader, they accept that Little Orphan Ani is no more, and it’s only Vader that remains. I think this also shows the viewer the full face of Darth Vader if put side by side(even though one is animated). Not Anakin. Also, SEEING HAYDEN UNDER THE HELMET WAS THE BEST FEELING EVER. Like he even played the part so perfectly, I was so terrified of who’s under the mask.

Such an amazing scene! My favorite in all of Star Wars. Hayden and Ewan did an amazing job, the hurt and pain in Obi-Wan’s eyes when he said I’m sorry Anakin, I felt that.

I think everyone will enjoy rewatching it more knowing the Grand Inquisitors death isn't going to break canon, knowing Revas motivation and knowing the last episode wraps things up satisfyingly.

Something you kind of passed over was my son's favorite line, Owen saying "He is my own." Special meaning for us, since my son is adopted. We had minor quibbles with the chase scene at the beginning. Yes, a nod to the opening of ANH, but the length of the chase was more TLJ like. In addition the how, along with the why, of Reva coming to Tatooine was, ioho, lacking.

The last moment of connection between Anakin and Obi-Wan where Anakin releases Obi from his guilt(oh the feels!!)...and then the reflected light on Anakin's face turns all the way red and the blue disappears, and he's gone. Like the scene between Ben and and Han in TFA. So well done.

The thing I always wanted to see in the live action Star Wars universe was “prime Vader”. We got a glimpse in Rogue One, but it still wasn’t enough. This series delivered on showing just how truly terrifying and powerful Vader became/was. That, along with the small piece of Anakin that was still alive in him, both excited and wrecked me. Loved this series!

I always knew Obi-Wan had a purpose watching over Luke but I felt sad for him and his loneliness. I’m happy to see him with Ginn at the end there. I feel like he has closure on his guilt for Anakin.

TRULY 🙌 I was just thinking of how, beneath all of Vaders actions, he just wanted to be with Padme and his children. Perhaps he would have left the darkness behind if he hadn’t been kept from them for so long 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

YOU GUYS! Obi-Wan is sorry for all of it... telling Anakin that his attachments and feelings weren't the Jedi way, when he himself also had such feelings and attachment, to Anakin himself, if not Satine or others. In the end, he rejects the pain and suffering of the Jedi's fall/rise of the Sith to embrace his feelings and attachment to Anakin's children and becomes stronger than ever, while also opening himself to the greater Force where his master Qui-Gonn awaited.

People don't realize Obi Wan maybe a master of Soresu (defensive dueling) he isn't no scrub on the offensive neither. His melee attacks on Vader coming back when he was on the offensive was a thing of beauty shows you he is a overall great duelist.

In the first part of the duel Obi Wan was holding his lightsaber with two hands implying that he was mostly fighting in his defensive style and blocking Darth's strikes. And then when he had the flashbacks of his duty to protect the children, he came back and started fighting with his lightsaber in one hand and the classic Obi Wan two flingers fighting pose. From then he started fighting more offensively and aggressively. That's when we got the Master Of The Force, The Badass Obi Wan who can BEAT Darth Vader. The fight was brilliantly written!

It's also interesting that Kenobi gains the upper hand through physical attacks on Vader's technology (using the hilt of his saber, rather than the saber itself or force attacks). Vader probably did not consider physical attack to be a legitimate threat and so was not prepared to counter them.

I just realized something about his (DV) face. When he possibly had some of the light in him his face was mostly blue with some red, but screen cuts to Obi then back to DV and it's 100% red. Symbolizing he's 100% dark side now.

Vader is never 100% on the darkside or else he would not have betrayed the Emperor the way he did. It's his constant internal struggle between spite and forgiveness witch makes him such a great character.

When you were talking about how Qui gon was a part of a trinity with obi wan and vader if reminded me of the Ones from clone wars. The 2 siblings fighting back and forth between light and dark and the father trying to mediate. Love the parallels this franchise creates intentionally and/or unintentionally

Think back to someone you spent a couple days with when you were ten years old, and haven't seen since. Even if you remember them, do you really know if they'll still remember you? I'd probably still address it as, "hey, you were good friends with my dad, remember?" I mean, obviously the reason is that none of this was planned in the first movie, but just saying, I don't think this is that far of a stretch.

The whole Vader Obi-wan duel was wonderfully artistic. The lighting was beautiful. It didn't tell a story quite as much as I would have wanted it too but it was still poignent. Also their connection with the force showing how truly powerful both were.

Wouldn’t it be great for season 2 to get a trip to Dagobah for a Yoda conference with Obi and Qui Gonn? They can explore all the redemption and prepping for the events in Rebels. The line from Vader about killing Anakin made the “true from a certain point of view” totally fit.

I wasn't sure I wanted the fight but it was worth it. The part I did want was the final chat between Vader and Obi Wan and it was short but oh so sweet. The show's had it's ups and downs but they managed to nail the landing and purely because of this episode I'll probably be looking back fondly on this episode.

I'm not the biggest Star Wars fan but I feel like this series did a great job of showing how important Obi Wan is to Star Wars. I think a lot of casual fans like myself would think of Luke, Darth, Yoda, Leia, Chewbacca and Han Solo before we think of Obi Wan but Obi Wan is kind of that grandfather figure of the entire storyline that we follow in all the films.

I think leia give lola to obiwan to help him not be scared... obiwan putting it on the dash is him saying he is not afraid to face vader.... hence the strong confident obiwan.... awesome

It’s a tie in to ep 3, obi wan says hello there to grievous, which then became a meme, which then became a happy accident that the first thing Ben says to R2 is ‘hello there’. The ep 3 hello there was not a tie in to ep4, it was a coincidence.

That’s what I got out of it. There’s a tinge of blue light reflecting on his face, and then it goes out. Leaving all red lighting. Like he used the light side to give Ben peace, and then descends back into the dark side.

No, in the original Star Wars movies Obi Wan tells Luke that Darth Vader killed his father. When Luke learns that Vader is his father the ghost of obi wan explains that Vader killed the good part of Anakin, so from a certain point of view he wasn’t lying. So this scene basically gave Obi Wan the knowledge that Vader has multiple personality disorder and feels he killed Anakin lmao.

@@MichelleMenozzi That is how I saw it and choose to see it that way. The way they had the blue on his face, I think that was the last little bit of Anakin giving his master peace because he knew it was Paps that brought him to the dark side.

Also, my only real critique of this episode was that I wanted Vader to say the bit about him killing Anakin when he had buried him as a spiteful gloat, triggering the insights he needed to reconnect fully to the living force.

I didn't really see the ending the same way. I think he just doesn't need to be that close to Luke but he will stay in Tatooine, but learning how to be a Jedi Ghost. Which may not be that exciting or another season.

The dialogue between Anakin and Obi-Wan after he broke the mask was the most heart breaking thing ever. I’ve never cried harder when Obi-Wan told Anakin I’m sorry 😭😭😭
