Honestly they talk of stopping to politicise yet all murkomen says is jubilee this jubilee that. The points we are raising is why promise farmers ncpb will give you market yet import maize from mexico at 3200. Why supply as govt subsidised fertiliser imported from another country when we are fully capable to make our own fertilizer locally just give the job to Kenyatta university or jkuat..... That makes it raise the cost of maize then you say the problem is the farmers are hiking their price. And finally. Why are few companies paid for maize and others not paid. Why is maize imported when we have enough supply's. Why diversify when really the local consumption is market enough. We shiuld supply for our local market and even export to middle east! To bring down the maize price really give the farmers knowledge on organic fertiliser available from our cows and chicken and goats waste matter and dead vegetation so that we can have cancer free maize and also promote organic farming. For now our fight is pay the farmers who supplied. Pay them first before we discuss other things.

Actually, the whole scandal can trace its source from way back when DP was the minister of Agriculture, it's only now that the chickens are coming home to roost. He hiked the maize price in order to benefit his maize growing backyard at the expense of the common Kenyans who are now forced to buy maize at unaffordable prices. As long as the government keeps buying maize at unnatural prices, people will always try to exploit that situation and smuggle in maize to government stores, it's very lucrative,it's worth the danger. The result of all these is that poor Kenyans will go to bed hungry because they cannot afford the overpriced maize, at the same time, maize will go bad in the stores, the spoiled farmers will hold on to their stocks to the very bitter end, waiting in hope for their usually nepotism motivated price sets. Maize should price should only be determined by supply and demand, not by the well meaning politicians. Otherwise, its going to a loose loose situation for both the consumers and the farmers.

A 2 kg packet of maize flour is ksh 92 bob meaning a bag of maize flour is ksh 4,140. So if a farmer sale his/her maize at 2300 the miller will be making around 1,840 profit before all other factors of production plus tax which am sure will not be more that 1/2 of that gross profit. with the current inflation rate 2300 is not favorable at all.
