@@claudioquintas4281 If it can be saved, this has a chance. They can't ever get that initial sales period back, but maybe they pick up some more sales and word of mouth gives it a slow burn. Attracting more modders would help.

A huge problem in Rome II was that characters would always die of old age before coming into their own. Customizable turns per year is fantastic.

Yeah that would have been really disappointing, especially since that area is so crowded with playable factions. The one we're getting is bigger than Rome 2's Greece by a good margin.

Well, now then we will move our capital each time we conquer a new land ;) it will be kind of unrealistic.. although we have example of Ottoman Empire, when they made Constantinopole their capital immediately after conquering, but they did not do it with the next occupied regions..

So let me get this straight Troy is it's own game and timeline? Pharoah is adding Troy? All of the game ? What has more content Pharoah or Troy? A 2 in 1 game??

Troy is its own game. A lot of the content is getting ported to Pharaoh for free, but not all. None of the mythological elements, for example. When this update drops, Pharaoh will have much more content than Troy overall.

Customizable turns per year is a perfect solution. I know some people might like to stick with the original characters as long as they can, but I am dedicated dynasty tree builder, so I was affraid, that if we stay with 6 turns per year, we would likely get up to third generation only after 200-300 turns deep into the game. I hope, they really offer us shorter terms. Two turns per year would be ideal probably, just like in good old Rome I ☺

Agreed. The CA Sophia studio has carried Total War for me for the last few years for a fraction of the pay and a fraction of the operating budget ever since they started fixing Rome 2 in 2017. The number of fuck ups the main studio has had compared to them is downright embarrassing. Pharaoh's launch was the first disaster they've had, but I wonder how much of that was on the devs and how much of it was on management. That's 1 disaster since 2017, compared to Thrones of Britannia, 3K's death, WH3's launch, WH3's DLC, and Hyenas courtesy of the main studio with the big budget.

@@happycompy Well said. About pharaoh's disastrous launch i personally blame the management 100% because they decided to give them Troy's engine which is a bad engine for melee combat And size of the game is also the management' call.

Game was WAY overpriced on release for a "full size" title (we all know it was a SAGA). They also denied that they were planning on expanding the map after launch during a Q&A, which was an incredibly stupid thing to say if they actually were planning on it. I figured that this was it. This was all we would get, and it was DOA.

It is looking good what they are doing to try and redeem themselves. For me tho, I am happy enough with Troy if I want the Bronze Age even if limited to a smaller map and for me to purchase a new Total War they are going to have to bring back naval battles... especially in settings such as this. My Troy campaign as Oddesyus battling over the islands was painfully stupid, similar as it is with Warhammer when playing them vampire pirates.

Troy does feel weird without naval battles because of how much water there is. That being said, I always found them boring in the non-gunpowder games so I don't miss them and would rather they focus on improving other areas. That said, the next TW game with gunpowder NEEDS to have them.

I like the sound of these. But I'm disappointed no one asked about a third Canaanite major-faction lord where you can play as the ancient israelites, with Yahweh as god where you can basically reeanact the old testament battle against the Peleset. Their leader should be a David-expy with a sling to take out Walwetes of course.

Yeah I see a lot of people asking for this. The Israelites seemed to have existed as a culture during the time of the game, so it wouldn't be a historical stretch. Certainly no more of a stretch than giving the Assyrians heavy cavalry lol.

Not sure how I feel about all of the campaign customization options. On one hand, its great that we get to tailor our campaign experience to our exact tastes. On the other hand, is this just CA throwing their hands up because they can't craft a fun and engaging campaign themselves? To me, it screams a lack of confidence in their product and they're just hoping these options can allow players to squeeze an extra ounce of fun out of it. Maybe I'm being too cynical

Most of these customization options are basically just the usual mods that every single game has had since Rome 2. Paradox games like Stellaris have a ton of customization options too and I think it's strictly a good thing with no downsides. Whether CA is shit at balancing the campaign or not, more options is always a positive and it's been sorely needed in Total War for at least a decade.

Good to see that there are changes in the right direction. I do not own this game yet, but seeing these changes may get me to buy it. It seems like you've played a chunk. How replayable would you say this game is for you on a scale of 1 to 10? Where 1 is you would play one campaign and be done with it and 10 is you will probably get back to the game multiple times over the next 10 years. On top of that, do you think the changes will impact the replayability for you?

What a great question. Based on your scale, off the top of my head, I'd say Rome II was a 10 for me (2100+ hours since 2013). WH2 Mortal Empires was an 8. Attila was a 6, 3K was a 5, Pharaoh is a 4, and Troy was a 3. That being said, I think this expansion could bring Pharaoh up to a 7 or an 8 for me. It looks like it's going to check all the right boxes for me in a way a historical TW hasn't since Rome 2. I would wait to buy it until the expansion, personally.

@@happycompy cool! I think for me Rome 2 is an 8 and Attila a 9. I love Rome 2, but during most campaigns I lose interest around about midgame because the odds of the autoresolve just make it whack and the AI doesn't put up much of a fight even if you do fight every battle. Attila is much more interesting imho so Im way more likely to go for at least some victory conditions in an Attila campaigb. Never played WH2, 3K, or Troy, since I have a feeling the numbers would be the same for me and I feel the value of a total war game would be in the replayability for me. I will definitely check out some more stuff about Pharaoh to see if it will persuade me to buy it this time around. Thanks for your insights!

@@jacobcowgill886 Both of them are going to have only one leader per culture, unlike Egypt, Canaan, the Hittites, and the Sea Peoples who all have at least two. Kind of disappointing but the 25 extra minor factions helps smooth it over for me.

Technically we don't know. We know for sure that there will be a "dynasty system" with succession. A family tree seems logical but we just don't know until they show off the new system.

Wish they had reworked the Amazons into a Scythian Faction or at least given their characters and some units to Troy but oh well, maybe in a coming DLC eventually. Either way, really hope this update is what makes Pharaoh a proper mainstay in the TW series.

I just confirmed on their discord that it's going to be Ahlamu tribesmen. Historically speaking, I'm fairly sure the Arameans were one of the Ahlamu peoples! Pretty hype. The Arameans were a MENACE!!! The absolute HATRED between them and Assyria was legendary.

The only thing I did not like from this update is the inclusion of cavalry. That does not belong in a bronze age game. It just makes the other faction's use of inferior chariots illogical. Also, they do efforts to not include some contents from TW Troy because it's not justifiable for the historical setting of Pharaoh, and yet here we are with the cavalry.

I'm pumped for the Pharaoh update, but I'm still "wait and see" with CA as a whole. Like you said, 3K was unceremoniously shot dead. I'm shocked that Pharaoh wasn't as well. I'm out of the loop with the WH3 free content? Wasn't it just a new legendary hero for the Skulls event?

@@happycompy i mean, the massive rework for existing factions were just insane like they were fleshed out, it's like playing a completely new factions for wh3, the amount of added mechanics and reworks for the 2 races (dwarves and empire) are just so amazing. basically means if you don't pay for the dlc and already has twwh1, you still can enjoy some of the content in ToD with the reworks and changes and they also added a legendary lord + a hero which is crazy since they only added a legendary hero back then the LH was not on the roadmap and kinda just came out of nowhere as far as i know. everyone thought the skulls event = sales, turns out we're getting a free legendary hero too

@@happycompy Battles have this arcade feel. They are terible. It ok for warhammer but for historical immersion isnt there older games 10 years ago doing better.

I never played Total War Troy, ive always wanted to but it seems like its a miss among the community. However i bought Pharaoh for cheao on G2A and i love it. CA Sophia did amazing on the game and I'm glad they get to improve upon it more.

Yeah me too! I love this mysterious, apocalyptic setting and I was crushed thinking that Pharaoh's failure meant we'd never get a Bronze Age Collapse Total War. Boy does it feel good to be wrong.

What is the point of this comment? Capital location hasn't meaningfully affected gameplay since RTW/M2TW. Has there not been a difficult Total War game in 18 years?

Why does CA refuse to listen to its customer base? They pedal stupid games like Pharaoh and overpriced Warhammer DLCs and ignore games that people have been asking for sequels/remasters for years now like Medieval 2 and Empire.

So I'm obviously pumped for this big expansion for Pharaoh, since I love this setting, but this is a small bright spot in an overall depressing direction that CA has been on for the past few years. If you notice, I completely stopped making KZfaq content for years until a month ago when they announced this update because Total War has been dead for me. CA has all but left historical TW to rot, and the WH-only people aren't doing that much better, honestly.
