I bought Pharaoh a while back but was waiting for this update to finally play. Hopped on as Babylon, and honestly, Pharaoh is easily one of the best historical total war games. The way economy works kinda reminds me of Catan, and there's actual political intrigue going on as well as family tree goodness, etc. Battles feel a lot better to me than they did on Troy, and basically it's the Bronze Age total war game a lot of us have been wanting for years. Babylon hype
@ZubiForce39 минут бұрын
There is a lot that I like here but so much of the campaign mechanics feel gamefied/arcade and lacking depth. A bit of quantity over quality (although the dynastic crisis of your campaign was dope). I just miss simple connecting mechanics like creating your own Germanicus with any general if he spends all day fighting Germanic tribes in Rome II. I want to see more of that and Pharaoh is taking steps towards that in a sense but... is taking steps back to what we used to have and not quite making it there. Regarding combat seeing the animations is so good, I honestly never zoom in Warhammer but always do in Rome II so I am very happy to see that back. Although within the first second of the review, you see a guy flying like 2-3 meters... 🤣. Sad to see lethality have the effect we feared (yes, I work at Delphos) but that is easily fixed. I honestly don't know what the consensus of the majority is regarding battle speeds but I strongly believe historical titles should make them long. Another thing I dislike is the introduction of cavalry rather than fixing chariots, is honestly disappointing. Guys, every Total War (except for Troy) has freaking cavalry... maybe just maybe, is good for this one to stand out and offer a different battle experience more appropriate for the times. Probably one mod or another will fix this. I don't think I'll be buying it anytime soon and seeing the numbers Dynasties has pulled is clearly not a success. I hope this is the right lesson learned for CA and not some sort of proof that historicals don't sell anymore. Good to see a full review from you again! I thought it was a sad pepes moment your fav TW toober is gone for good moment.

Minor Factions is what attracted me the most and I play the most. Assyria is tough considering you are the King of the Universe, but a great way to roleplay as "I must reunite the realm!" Another fun playthrough I did was one of the Hittite minor kingdoms, Carchemish. The roleplay mindset was "I can choose my throne as I am at the crossroads of empires" and eventually I invaded the Hittite Empire with a multicultural army from the Canaanite and Assyrian/Akkadian rosters.
@happycompy49 минут бұрын
Chad minor faction enjoyer! I want to play Carchemish for a different reason. They were one of the most iconic neo-Hittite states after the Bronze Age Collapsed, so it could be fun to see how I fare in their shoes.
@TheHorica66618 минут бұрын
@@happycompy It truly is the fact that they are at the crossroads of empires, just like their northern sister, Malidiya. But they don't have the special "fortress of empires" status that Carchemish has. I have also tried the Elamites, Ashkelon, Napata (Memnon), but I still feel I am having the best of playthroughs with Carchemish.

Why is most of the video Rome 1 music if you talked about campaign/battle tracks in such a good light?
@happycompy54 минут бұрын
Because Rome 1's OST is the GOAT, and everyone knows it. No shade to Ian Livingstone or Richard Before, but Jeff Van Dyck's score for that game IS total war to me. I tried the Pharaoh music as background music during the edit but Rome's is just so much better, and it weirdly didn't drown out my voice like Pharaoh's did, despite it being louder in the mix. I agree with you that it was a poor editing choice, given that I like Pharaoh's ost. If I could go back, I'd switch out the soundtrack for Pharaoh's during the audio section of the vid. But I'd still keep Rome's for the rest 😂. Thanks for watching man 👍

@@happycompy You stopped making videos long before Pharaoh release and then popped up hyping all of the great additions that should have been in the original game, and only have been given for free since the release was so terrible. Dynasties isn't good enough considering CA released a crappy saga sized game for $70...just think...they actually thought historical total war gamers were so stupid and impulsive that they would buy a bronze age saga for full price, they thought so little of the community to treat them in such a way. And you know, the stuff that they are giving for free was already mostly done and just waiting to be monetized later down the road. You know they only released this average version because they had assets already made. They can play it off like this is a redemption tour but in reality they just polished up dlc and gave it for free out of necessity. But the fact that shills are celebrating this just means they can do it again and again and again...release an unfinished product for full price...if people are stupid or shills trick the players then all good, but if we get caught, we'll act sorry and then act like we are redeemed for good will. If this was cd project red, or rockstar they would get some benefit of the doubt but CA and Sega have been releasing manipulative garbage for a decade.

Hopefully some of those unique units under the minor factions will be worked in. Looking into it, Hanigalbat is the Mitanni after its fall from supremacy hence its special chariots being labeled that. I suppose they were trying to allow for a chance to recapture the glory
@fyeahusaСағат бұрын
Hanigalbat isn't really the Mitanni after its fall. While the Assyrian's continued to use the name Hanigalbat for the area, it was ruled by a branch of the royal family of Assyria as a vassal to the kings of Assyria. The character we start off with in charge of Hanigalbat in game historically usurped the Assyrian throne, becoming king himself, hence why they made Hanigalbat the major faction instead of Assyria proper.

But ME really transformed poor map of WH2 which had 4 playable races without goal. I played much more in the beginning of 2022 rather than end of 2022. But with Pharaoh I think Dynasties will bring way more than original Pharaoh.

CA Sofia made a remarkable job but it cannot be compared with the incredible job that the marketing of CA has done to lower the standards of the historical TW community. This is the real "shockingly good" about Pharaoh. There are mods for Rome 2 and Attila doing the real job for true fans of historical titles
@happycompyСағат бұрын
There's no question that the bar is very low these days for historical TW. Had Pharaoh launched like this, supported by proper marketing and absent the other bullshit CA was pulling with WH3 DLC, it would have done a lot better, no question. BUT I think people would've been more critical of it than they are now (especially of the bugs and turn times) because our expectations wouldn't have been literally zero. I think 99% of us just assumed Pharaoh was thrown in the dumpster like 3K. The fact that CA fixing their game is SHOCKING says a lot about them and the products they put out. I've been around long enough to have a chip on my shoulder about the state ETW, Rome 2 (especially pre-2017), and Attila were left in. Really nice to see that Pharaoh (hopefully, we will see) won't be going that route on its way out.

@happycompy2 сағат бұрын
This is one of the most head-scratching...choices (?) they made, because it's so low-effort. You already made distinct, unique rosters for the Illiad characters in Troy. Why would you NOT just bring them over? "Historical accuracy" kind of flies out of the window when the faction is led by fucking Achilles lmao. Another minor gripe like yours is that the Amazons were excluded because of their historical inaccuracy (fair enough)...but instead we got the Cimmerians who are, you guessed it, historically inaccurate. Amazons had a unique unit roster too, much more so than the Cimmerians. Was a mistake imo, especially because we already have the Myth characters anyway.

What if CA Sophia decided to make a Shang vs Zhou Dynasty DLC for this game, to cash in more profits? Because Bronze Age China in Chinese history itself is often under represented. Most games sets in China were either Three Kingdomsera (3K Total War) and modern era(Battlefield 4). (On the other hand, based on artifacts and acheological evidences, the costumes and hair styles in late Shang and Early Zhou Dynasty era were similar to the later Greeks and Romans from the classical era.)
@happycompy2 сағат бұрын
That's a really cool idea! Chinese history is a big blind spot for me, TW games like Shogun 2 and 3K (even ETW with India) helped inspire me to learn more. Why do you think it would be a good DLC vs it's own game?
@ReviveHFСағат бұрын
@@happycompy For me DLC should be the cherry on top of the already delicious cake like Fates Divided and Nanman Tribes DLC for Three Kingdoms. Oh there's a 1990 Chinese drama sets during the late Shang Dynasty called "Investitures for the gods" (Feng Shen Bang封神榜),in that drama you can see the costumes and hairstyles were really different from the ones from the Confucius and Three Kingdoms era. You can watch that drama on KZfaq.

My only gripes are the UI is a bit unintuitive, the royal decree system (felt it really only worked well with 3k), and politics seems as if i can ignore it and doesnt have the impact i was hoping for. That being said this is the first time in a long while I've played a modern tw and enjoyed it. I wish there was a little more in the buildings department, but all in all I'm enjoying it.
