I guess you cannot tolerate Thapar being roasted. Madhu Trehan is also a veteran in journalism and co-founder of India today, so technically superior to Karan Thapar. She is not a newcomer. It was conducted in a way Thapar conducts his interviews.
@basicbot73494 жыл бұрын
Adnan Dehlavi Thapar used to do these frivolous face to face interviews with famous people, which were far from intellectual or political, that’s why Madhu even calls him a “talk show host” because he would only ever talk to the “famous” people and personally I have never seen him do any ground reporting for poor people or people who indeed suffer. In a sense all he has has ever been is Simi Garewal with a little more controversy due to political tinges he adds here and there, and with that kind of experience of a chat show host who only did sensationalism he really doesn’t deserve to be a veteran political journalist which he has tried to project very clearly in his book.

As a long time subscriber and an admirer of Madhu, I'm sad to note that the last few interviews that she has conducted, namely the one with Rana Ayyub and this one, have been terribly directionless. The questioning kept hovering on petty issues which hold no relevance to the topic at hand. The adversarial tone didn't add any value to the conversation and simply turned the discussion into a pointless "Tu-Tu-Main-Main", of sorts. I am supremely disappointed. It is my opinion that Abhinandan, Manisha or even Cherry should be given an opportunity to interview guests, no matter how "high profile" they are.

Madhu seems spiteful but Karan is equally egregious. He seems so comfortable breaching the trust of so many people I don't think a journalist should reveal his sources like this.

Johnny Doe anyone who is in the profession of journalism knows how difficult it is to get genuine quotes.. If all journalists were to write articles with quotes, not mentioning the sources, the articles will hold no merit.. Even if the source says "do not quote me", the journalist can use his discretion

Gosh, Madhu is getting personnel. No substance, just accusation and she is presenting her opinions as facts

Wonderful job done by Ms Madhu showing a mirror to Karan and giving him a taste of his own medicine. Brilliant.

Wow! This was a very VERY interesting interview There were points where I agreed and disagreed with both of them and that’s what makes it worth my time Put two experienced journalists in a room and something unique is bound to come out We need more such interviews

How petty can she be??? Taking her vendetta further, just like her last one. She is the reason I'll never pay newslaundry. The Wire for me
@ritaprashant6 жыл бұрын
My sentiments exactly. I discontinued my subscription to Newslaundry because of her. There is no limit to her irrational hatred of a range of people. While journalists shouldn't be any politician's friends, they most certainly shouldn't hate anyone either, at least while being journalists. I think she will do a big favour to Newslaudry by maybe supporting it from behind the curtain but not letting her biases impact their reporting.

You idiots, she is giving him a taste of his own medicine. Maybe you like this Macaulay putra? Does this Macaulay putra describe Sanjay or Rajiv Gandhi in the same light as he did to Modi? No, he wont because he was their lapdog. His sister use to date a Gandhi.

How can this name calling, one-upmanship, bullying, scoffing, and preaching on the part of Mrs Trehan ever be called an interview? She seems to hate a good number of people, particularly the ones who she considers more capable than herself. One hopes that her journalistic discipline would have enabled her to keep her hatred/contempt under check and ask meaningful questions, but the hope is in vain. The barrage of name calling ultimately seems to have proved counterproductive as it proves Mr Thapar to be incredibly articulate and sorted in his thinking.

Very true. It's one thing to ask uncomfortable or tuff questions, questions that put you on the spot and demand a response. But why was she dragging on them and constantly calling him names and sort of straight up bullying him to say that he agrees he's a horrible person. What journalistic ethos(blody she was hooting about all the while) was she following? what kinda interview is this? She din't even care for the audience and the nausea it would cause them, which at one point even Karan out of embarrassment asked her to consider. Potraying her god damn personal vendetta in a 47 minute interview seemed legit to this lady. What nonsense!

Since I had no prior opinion on any of these two people I started with thinking Karan was the bad guy here but as the interview progressed it started to settle on me that he's a journalist and people don't tell him things, he takes it out of them. He's doing his job by speaking the truth. However it was such an enjoyable watch because two people were discussing their wildly different povs without anyone raising their voice in the most elegant manner possible. Was a breath of fresh air as a departure from the modern podcast system where just about anyone with a mic can call themselves an interviewer. 🤧

Notwithstanding many comments here, I think this interview is pretty well done. Madhu Trehan offers a mirror to Karan Thapar when she interviews him. Pay attention to the topics and stories she brings up, they are crucial and deserve no different treatment (e.g. the Amitabh interview at the end). If you think her 'journalistic skills' or 'interview manners' are not great, you are mistaken. For example, check out her interview of Arun Shourie or Barkha Dutt.

WoW what an interview! Grabbing the bull by its horns. @Madhu amazing interview even though it seemed to be a tough one, and the opponent was in an attacking mood with no ethics n morality. You asked the hard questions still without getting frightened or subdued and the best part was as they say in English - you didnt let the pig drag you in the mud as that's what it likes to do... You kept your high ground!
