From high-profile rallies to the hot seats being contested by Congress’s Kanhaiya Kumar and BJP’s Bansuri Swaraj and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s return to the election campaign after getting interim bail in the alleged liquor scam case - the national capital is bustling with political activities ahead of voting on May 25.
To decode the electoral mood of Delhi, Newslaundry sat with the students of Delhi University and Jawaharlal Nehru University on the JNU campus to talk about the issues that matter to the young minds.
The students discussed the controversies around the polls, Delhi politics, Kejriwal’s arrest, political parties’ attempts at saffronisation, women’s safety, the opposition under the Modi regime, unemployment, and the new education policy.
Many students said that the ABVP and the BJP were “making strong efforts” to saffronise and politicise campuses, while some pointed out that education had become “more expensive”, and also alleged that the BJP wanted to “eliminate democracy and the opposition”. We also discuss JNU's 'tukde-tukde' reputation.

This was a much needed episode. The fact that DU and JNU are being saffronised and that Assistant Professor’s are being appointed more on the basis of their political connections and less on the basis of merit is not talked about enough. I mean people who study hard, do research and are so laborious, they don’t even get a job just because they don’t have political connections, this is gross injustice. And it has almost zero media coverage in the mainstream. Those of us who are inside the system we have seen how meritorious professors were chucked out from DU and such professors were appointed who had questionable qualifications (speaking from personal experience).

@@lakshyavarshney9942It’s not about permanent job. It’s about less meritorious people being appointed which in turn is affecting the quality of higher education in India. Moreover it’s extremely unjust for those who actually deserve it. Be it ad-hoc or permanent.

@@nandinisharma3849 it is about that both my parents are permanent profs in du colleges I told my mum once that's teaching be it at any level is more about money and lesser about what it is for i asked her in disgust that which country has this permanent system ? Mostly countries give it on contracts for 3 ,4 or 5 years etc and then it is renewed very few are permanent for life etc etc that is what plagues the academia she said it clearly that we hv excessive politics and which ever party is going to be strong at the union or state or central level and offcourse other connection world try to manipulate here there is no renewal or retaining or dismissal on the basis of those interviews only promotion or not so let's say you are not able to perform well or even satisfactory you still hv ur job only promotion will not be given if u hv an economy like this with nothing else but academia as a lucrative profession with so called " dignity " with no interference , commercialization bla bla bla then clearly things competetion would heat up over there u r not entitled to that job just coz u passed some exam like net and now you want permanent faculty position for life this permanent job in higher education and research is not only hindering reform in education sector but in all other sectors the job market is heavily affected by this and coaching industry just because there are no other options in this country and/or you can't get anything else you can't become a teacher this is excessive period

@@Anonymous-wj4zh Refreshing change? whatever left candidates you’re talking about, just have a look at their CV, they were such well qualified people and amazing teachers and these people who are being appointed through the RSS, they cannot even spell out basic terms let alone teach. They talk about bollywood films and songs in classes where there is no correlation. It is horrible.

University is better to welcome all ideologies and be a centre for discussion, and brings the idea which person seems most reasonable in return.. Let me tell you a funny story..😂😂😂 I did my master's from East Asian Studies, Faculty of Social Science.. I will tell you, I went to get my revised schedule for my 2nd year, while we came out of the office which is on the floor right above the political science department.. we saw students reciting some kind of RSS mantra or something and officials were recording the scene. We got scared and ran out of the department 😂😂😂😂 We are from the Northeast and we didn't know anything about all this at that time.

In JNU , 50 yr old person is a phd student and for more than 20 yrs taking the stipend simply because he is left union person. We let left union to engage in anti India demonstrations in jnu or any other university. Still I remember the slogan “Bharat tere tukde honge inshallah” in jnu. Left will be wiped sooner or later

Please note that the term 'Ram Rajya' does not actually mean that Governance of Lord Rama. It rather connotes 'the governance of monarchy'. John Keay - a renowned historian- writes in his book INDIA like this:' Legitimising moarchical rule, I India as in south-east Asia, was the Ramayana's prime function'. So there are only 10 students who can rightly represent jnu, i thought it is big university i guess i was wrong, it is a small college. I can't tell if these student have lack of information about the things they expressed or selectively stating the facts which can propagate there agenda. There were also some good points to hide the real agenda i guess. Let's be fair we all had the student phase where be believe or pretend to believe in some ideas to look cool are get accepted amongst the pears. But in case of jnu some of them crossed that student age and still living like student for 10rs hostel and food. Things have changed now as this previous privileges are not available anymore so the history sister have to vacate which used to rile up the students.
