There are no honest mistakes in other countries, In Singapore, if they find a certain amount of narcotics, your'e not only going to serve prison sentence, they put you to death. So it's always the travellers job to be thorough in checking their luggage.

Americans think they can do whatever they want. No sympathy...Have respect for rules of countries outside of US. Also, there should be strict consequences for bringing bullets into another country.. especially with the multiple mass shootings in America.

I was thinking about taking my wife to Turks & Caicos, but not now. Of course, I wouldn't bring ammunition (even by accident) but a country that deals so harshly without any regard to context or proportion is a scary place, no matter how beautiful.

I totally agree that each country has the right to make its own laws, and tourists have a responsibility to follow them. On the other hand, if T & C is going to have such draconian laws and penalties, it will scare people away from traveling there and ultimately hurt their tourism industry. I have never owned a firearm or ammo, so that would never be an issue for me. But who knows what other strict laws they may have. I have no desire to travel there after hearing these stories!

Who travels to any location out of country without checking their luggage? No empathy at all for any of these three. Lastly, if three guys from any country come in to our country with “bullets they forgot in their bags” in their bags all three at the same time, what do you think police would do? Also, if it was three Black American guys in this scenario, would we know about this and how would the media be saying? Honestly, smuggling guns from Virginia is a huge problem in our own states and all the guns these tropical islands get are US made. I would appreciate knowing crime statistics on tourists there. Americans think that carrying ammo or guns is a "small crime" due to their gun culture, and that is obvious by the fact that these people didn't even clean out their bags and store all of their ammo after a shooting trip. Other countries consider it a major issue, especially countries that have major gun problems due to gangs, and therefore have stronger laws and no tolerance. Try "accidentally" bringing a tiny amount of cocaine or other controlled substance into the U.S. and see how it goes. These people may have made a small mistake, but, they broke a law in another country and that country has the right to enforce their laws as they see fit. The Turks are sending a strong message that they will not tolerate anyone carrying ammo into their country. Remember what happened to Brittney Grinder for "accidentally" bringing a small amount of THC oil into Russia? And that is far less damaging than a couple of bullets could be.

I just find it hard to believe that all of these men just accidentally forgot to unpack their ammo before their trips. It just doesn't pass the smell test. These men should know that you aren't allowed to take ammo on a plane in your checked baggage let alone take it into countries that do not allow firearms or ammo. I don't feel any empathy or sympathy for these men and they should be more respectful and mindful about another countries laws. The same thing happens to foreigners when they enter the US with prohibited items as they can also face jail time and be banned for life. It is no different.
