Well coordinated arson. Why vent the roof, if you aren't attacking the seat of fire?

That was a concern of mine also. Our chief says if you can smell smoke put your mask on. Sounds like a good idea to me.

I have seen that in many , too many videos of firefighting in America that way too many of the guys don`t wear masks. I even heard the comment : " We are used to smoke, we can handle that, its our job" Tough guys ? No, stupid, careless guys. Years later they will have to pay the price.

Unless you have an air truck on scene, the amount of compressed air is limited, as an engine normally carries 3 spare bottles, and depending on how well you manage to control your breathing, you can go through all the air very rapidly. Realize these are volunteer firefighters, and they don’t spend as much time as paid departments on practicing, and won’t necessarily have all the same equipment that can be brought to the scene. I think they did a great job!

David Sonnen possibly some type of AC system ? Freon ? It appeared it was burning some type of gas , and judging by the color of the fire I’m guessing the fire burned through some type of Freon pipe / hose that was under pressure causing the fire to act that way .

Some guys did a good job messing up their lunges by themselves by not wearing their ba mask.

John Lovett I agree , they should have had their masks on . But I don’t think it was gonna flash . A lot of that was steam . But you are right , you can 100% tell when a room is going to flash . Smoke tells you everything .

One of the problems with this building was the fact it had been remodeled numerous times with many false walls. It also had 2 separate buildings in essence only connected by a doorway. Shortly after arrival the floor started to give way in the side with the basement. It was later found that the fire started in the basement. Interior attack was done on the 2 story side of the structure since there was no basement until roof stability became a concern. The single story section needed to primarily be exterior attack due to floor stability. I hope this sheds some light into the difficulty in fighting this fire.

David Glaum Piercing nozzle . Definitely great for basement fires . Bang it straight through the floor and open it up . Just stay out of the way of those basement steps , that heat will be coming up like a chimney and melt whatever’s in its way lol

New owner started renovating it and lit the wood stove in the basement without thinking of checking it to see if it was cleaned and with that being said it rapidly spread in the walls and left over grease in the kitchen

Might have been from the electric service or interior wiring, or even copper refrigeration lines.

Sounds to me you are sarcastic, but i'm gonna answer you anyway what i mean to say is they are slow pokes and i watch a lot of Fire Scenes on KZfaq and even live events FDNY is the most experience fire fighters, that's my opinion you don't have to agree usually i don't comment but here i coulden hold back because i see a bunch lazy guys and not organized

Dave Have you watched the recent videos of the NY fire that they were filming in? The one where the fire fighter died? I would love to see videos from the start to review the tactics that Got him killed. I bet it involved a lot of bravery!

Yeah I can't figure what happened there. Heard he ran out of air, but basements are never fun to be in. Obviously something went seriously wrong.

Killian Whitelock A lot of departments on the East coast have them . Most can’t afford leather . I started my career wearing that style until we switched over to leather about 15+ years ago . And honestly I’d take that over leather right now if I could . Leather is obviously more safe and durable, but I’ve always liked the salad bowls . I guess it’s just a preference thing

Someone has to tell them that its ok to go inside and pull ceilings. They had a decent opportunity towards the beginning of the video to really go in there and mop up.

JR:FIT It definitely appears they could have made a good offensive push in the beginning . But it’s hard to make that determination just by watching this video . Is it fair to say We don’t know what they were dealing with ? They could have had a collapse inside ? That fire could have started in the basement and burned through the floor ? It’s hard to tell how old this place is , but judging by the way that fire was jumping around it could have had balloon Frame correction ? That building could have been used for storage and they just couldn’t get in , or if they did it wouldn’t have been safe . There A lot of factors that could have came into play . I try not to judge to much because in situations like this , video doesn’t really show everything . That’s why I wish this video had radio traffic . That could have answered a lot of questions . Either way the chief made a decision to go defensive for a reason , and with no life hazard why not ?

@@chosenone1004 It is fair to say we dont know all the variables at hand in this particular fire. But the basics of fighting fires in commercial buildings is a lost art for a lot of departments and its understandable because its a low frequency event. But this fire was begging to be vented big time and the 2 tiny holes are not going to cut it. Give that pressure somewhere to go and make sure its big enough to not let the pressure build up and push into uninvolved parts of the building and now your losing all visibility. If your vent team is taking the whole roof off the place you should be able to have awesome visibility in most of the building and be able to find where the seat of the fire is.
