When hot bodies are left in the open they are found to cool gradually. Newton found that the rate of cooling was proportional to the excess of temperature of the body over that of the surroundings. This observation is what is called Newton's law of Cooling.
Newton's Law of Cooling states that the hotter an object is, the faster it cools. More precisely, the rate of cooling is proportional to the temperature difference between an object and its surroundings.
