Many calculators use a similar system very useful for unusual problem's that are simple enough to differentiate Thank you very much.

For square roots, this simplifies to the Babylonian method of Xn+1 = .5*( Xn + a/Xn), where a is the number you want the square root of. It's not unlike a binary search, where you simply average the best current guess with the result of trying to divide a by the best guess. This effectively halves the error term each time. Pretty clever, those Babylonians.

yes, those ancient babylonians were very clever and their present-day descendants supposed to be the iraqis with the supposed white detergent powder, and for that accusations .were bombed the living daylight out of these people. the design of the bombs could have utilized the babylonian method perhaps ?

What I'm not quite sure about yet is where x0 or sqrt(2) came from. If only the function is given, how do you guess for the X0? "pick something close to the answer" I have a function, no solution, do i graph it an look for x intercepts? Your've videos are great, but I'm a bit dense. Suggestions about finding x0?

Pick any value, this formula will take you to your appropriate answer, but you will require a big number of iterations..

r(2) < a 에서 우변으로 이항하면 0 < a - r(2) 양변 제곱하면 0 < a^2 - 2a*r(2) + 2 2a * r(2) < (a^2 + 2) r(2) < (a^2 + 2) / 2a 끝!!!

This is because 1 is closest to but doesn't go over sqrt (2). Had he used the equation x² - 17 = 0, his x1 would be 4.
