I'm really loving this, Matt! In 1999, 4½ months prior to my 38th birthday, my mom passed away somewhat unexpectedly. The night before she passed, I was planning to give her a call just to talk. Having had a really bad day at work I decided to wait until the next evening to call her because I wasn't sure I could be 1,000% positive and didn't want to risk putting her in a sour mood. Yes, you can clearly see where this unfortunately ends... 😢 I would gladly give just about anything to turn back time just to have one more conversation with that super sweet Lady. Yes, indeed, regrets run very deep. I am really thrilled that you are taking this opportunity to freshen up your dad's YO. God's blessings on you and this build! I have zero doubt that you will never actually know how much this truly means to him! Love your content! I never miss a single episode!

My mom taught me to wheel, also passed several years ago. I didn’t get back into wheeling until after she passed. I wish she was around to help me wrench and take the grandkids on trails. She would absolutely love it. Dad’s a racist drunk, doesn’t care about anyone but a beer can. Appreciate the people who want to be in your life.

I like the idea of keeping if factory looking. I personally think doing a 4 runner grille headlights and bumper does these truck allot of good on looks. Also I agree on paint matching the canopy. Would be cool to put some welds on it too maybe a 10 wide nothing crazy but polished

I have to say you are a better storyteller than you give yourself credit for. Especially because your story belongs to so many of us. Love the truck ( be ready for multiple offers). Wish I had something to offer for the build but whatever you do will be perfect. A friend told me about bleepinjeep some 12 - 15 years ago and I been watching ever since. My biggest disappointment is that you were within an hour of me and I didn't get to meet you. Southwest Missouri. Love what you are doing for your dad. My parents both passed 3 years ago.

This video really hits home with me my parents have passed away and I realized the hard way that the most important thing in life isn't your schedule it is the memories you make that you will carry with you forever. At the end of the day your most prized possession is the memories you make. You guys are like my extended family and that may sound weird but I have a lot of respect for you guys. A saying I live by. Live for today because no one is guaranteed tomorrow. You might want to reach out to Teng tools because I believe they make a truck bed tool box that has slide out drawers that would make it easier for your dad to access his tools.

I think a 2 tone paint job would look great: the gunmetal grey on the bumpers and lower bed sides and door (follow the line all the way back) but OEM color for the camper shell. Silver (not chrome) wheels to contrast the gunmetal. This works whether you go aftermarket bumpers or not.

The TJ I have now was the one I got my mom when she got diagnosed with leukemia...i started building it up for her and she got to drive and enjoy it for a year or so before she wasn't able to drive anymore...im glad I did it when I did so she could have fun with it...she passed in 9-11-22... Glad to see you doing the same for your dad, he's really going to enjoy it 🤠👍 Get your kiddo involved with something on it too & it'll be a memory you and your family will always have... fixing up dad/grandpa's truck... & With the sound system... I'd do one or two underseat all in 1≠ 8" sub & some 5.25"-6" mid/tweet and a nice head unit... it's simple but will pack big sound in that small cab without taking up room behind the seat... Thanks for sharing this project brother 🤠👍

I lost my dad 13 years ago, and my stepmother gave me my dad's truck about 3 years ago. It's a 97 Dodge 2500 diesel. I have been wanting to get it back on the road, but it's hard for me partly because of money, but also, I'm disabled and it's hard for me to get up and down. I would still love to get on the road and drive that truck around. I don't know enough about diesel's ether. I think it's great what you're doing for your dad. He seems like a really nice guy

Right now I am thinking that Josh is on to something. Chrome bumpers, Chrome wheels, a Chrome push guard similar to what is on it now. Paint the shell to match. That is the retro look with a little modern with the matching shell. White letter tires. Upgraded tunes. Would be pretty sweet. Great video. I totally agree. You might not be able to do everything, but within what you are able to do, try to live life with no regrets.

I live with, all be it smaller, the same regret over missed opportunities with my mom. Bless you for what you’re doing. From another old school guy, My opinion is match the camper shell to the body color, install a roll n lock bed slide. Match the bumpers, wheel flares and sliders/steps. I would put a polished wheel back on it. Other than that renew/restore the truck back to a close OE appearance. I do think something hand fabricated by you would be the icing on the cake. At least that would be the most meaningful thing to me from one of my children. I’ll be looking forward for the videos.

3rz 2.7 swap, 50hp bump, and relatively straight forward swap. It’d help it keep up with more modern traffic, but not radically different than he’s used to.

Hi Matt, just an idea for the front, if your dad wants some kind of bumper but keeping it some what factory looking. There is a company in the states that do a flat pack steel plate bumper that sits relatively close to the grill and can support a winch. I personally like them and I hope you do too. The company is called North West trail innovation

Front suspension - 4Crawler Ball Joint Spacers in 1/2” increments up to 1.5”. The torsion bars might need adjusting after installation. Droop will suffer but other than an SAS swap, it’s the only front end lift. Bracket lifts don't count, they don't address suspension articulation capabilities. Headlights - You can choose between LED unit or an H4 conversion bulb replacement. Either would be a huge improvement over the stock sealed beams. Rear Leaf Springs - Alcan springs that are longer than the stock 48” leaf springs and Orbit Eye shackles would provide a smoother ride and premium articulation. Bumpers, Sliders, Skids - Many bumper offerings are available, mostly bent tube type with exception for the Warn branded plate one. All Pro Off-road, Addicted Off-road, BudBuilt, or Marlin Crawler are just a few manufacturers. Tires, Gears, Wheels - You really don’t want to try anything bigger than a 33 x 10.5” tire without going up to an SAS conversion. With 31’s, use 4.56 gears in the axles and for 33’s, go with 4.88’s. Most all factory Toyota 6 lug wheels will fit. Chevy 6 lug wheels will fit but the tires will stick out 1.5”. It could be good or bad depending on the wheel well flares you go with. Brakes - Get bigger wheels to fit the larger V6 brakes that came with stock trucks from the 89-95 2nd Gen. Stereo - The stock 4” speakers under the dash can be upgraded to best quality. And, the doors can be cut up to fit 6.5” speakers. The depth of the door speakers may require stand outs to push the surface further out from the outer door skin. The head unit fits any double din stereo. There are many options with LED displays that would use the WiFi hotspot from a phone to access apps online where music can be streamed from. Motor and Trans - See about the timing chain mileage. If it's been on for over 100k mi, then it probably needs to be replaced, use one with metal guides (LC Engineering). The clutch may also be due to be replaced. An R-151 transmission upgrade would be over the top as the W56 is bulletproof already, but that R-151 was what was installed in the turbo 22RE's. Go ahead and add a turbo if you're going to that much trouble. Then again, a 3.4L 5VZ-FE engine swap would be epic!

The man is speaking wisdom, young bucks pay attention. My Grandpa took me to the Ford dealership when I was about 7. He bought a brand new 86 Bronco!! My parents were divorcing and he was trying to cheer me up, I loved following him around like a little puppy. Those were some of the greatest moments of my childhood. Anyways, as I came of age the truck became mine, and I drove it last years of highschool. When I went off to college my father sold it without my permission. It broke my heart. Fast forward a while ( I'm 44 now) I rescued the exact model of Bronco from the junkyard, the plan was to fix it up and go on a road trip with my Grandpa. It sat in my backyard for 3 years and I kept putting it off....... This year my Grandpa passed of a heart attack suddenly. I can never get back those memories I would have made. PLEASE DON'T WAIT, DON'T PUT IT OFF........Live now there might not be a later ✌️ RIP. R.G Orosco my Grandpa ❤

Careful with the non drill bushwhacker style flares. they sit there and move around and when you pull them off a year later it rubs the paint off in that spot in the shape of the flares
