Today was my second day in Saigon, Vietnam in 3 years and I definitely made up for lost time! I headed out on the ultimate Banh Mi tour of Ho Chi Minh City with no other than ‪@Macoi24‬ This was Vietnamese Street Food at its finest!
We had two types of banh mi, the second of which was incredible and we also had a drink called dua tac which is a refreshing coconut and Calamansi drink.

Gary, that second Banh Mi looks amazing! Finding her could be very difficult if you don’t know HCMC. Here in southern California we have an abundance of Vietnamese food but the baguettes just aren’t the same. Love when a motorcycle drives up with a giant basket of fresh bread 🥖 for your sandwich or Pa Thong Ko (fried dounut) for your bowl of broth❤️ Thanks Gary

For those that are interested, she's not that hard to find. She's in the famous 'mafia' district, which is D4, and she sits right at the corner of two of the most well-known streets of that district, which are Đoàn Văn Bơ and Xóm Chiếu. Ask anyone in D4, and I'm pretty sure they know that corner.

The thing I love about banh mi is that it’s like everything your mouth can experience in one bite… crisp, chewy, greasy, sweet, sour, salty, fragrant/herbal, spicy, just everything!

Wow! Looks heavenly! I could taste the bread (my weakness)! Here in Arizona the Mexican food is served with sides of chilis, pickled carrots, cucumber and radishes to go along with the spice...i think you would love it...that street was over the top with traffic...cool vlog....thank you :)

Gary my dude teaming up with Max. Love Max's Vietnam content and I'm obviously a fan of yours. I'm FINALLY in Bangkok's Chinatown. In the past two days I've already hit up a few of your recommendations (ex. Khao Moo Daeng Si Morakotalong and Trok Rong Moo Noodle) with ones I've found on my own (Talad Noi Crab Fried Rice - excellent crab fried rice and fried fish maw and Manop Suki - suki was great but their chili sauce was the star). I'll be hitting up Vietnam in a few months too. Heading to Jae Ben Pad Ngi Ngaow this afternoon. Thank you so very much brother!!

Banh Mi Ngoc Xuyen has been around for over 40 years. They have very good banh mi. I recommend the house special ( banh mi đặc biệt), homemade meat ball, chicken banh mi or shredded pork skin and meat bánh mì with fish sauce ( banh mi bì) . They also have traditional sweet cake that are very rare to come by these day . Ask for baked banana coconut cake ( banh chuoi nuong), baked cassava coconut cake ( banh khoai mi) , or the bake egg coconut milk & cinnamon in the cast iron stove ( banh gan)

Oh, yum! The reason the bread is light and airy is because they use rice flour in it as well - it's not all wheat flour. In Australia, we call it a Vietnamese pork roll however, it wouldn't be exactly like this. Great video by the way! X

The Name "Sai Gon" is used to be called " SG - The South - East Pearl", FYI :D Btw, I suggest you and Max must come and visit Binh Thanh District... More detail: I'm not sure the exactly location is it. But I remember this is a Street Food's Wall, it located nearly Thi Nghe Bridge, accross Xo Viet Nghe Tinh Street. Ah, naturally I miss that street's name... That is Phan Van Han Street, where you and Max must try dishes and drinks such as " Bun bo Hue", nuoc mia ( sugar cane juice) ... :D. The Price of these product is acceptable ! Btw, my name's Huy. I'm from Binh Thuan Province, this is called "The land of sunshine and and wind", now I'm living and working in Sai Gon. The 3 food items from Vietnam i like are their pho, bun bo hue and Bahn mi. I've tried some of their rice dishes and it was ok, nothing memorable about them. As for Bahn mi in my area in Dallas/fort worth, the bread is extremely important and I go for the classic combination sandwich. Not sure what is in there but I like that one best.

Yeah the classic combo is so good! I had some incredible banh mi in Australia as it goes. Bun Bo is also amazing, it’s the best soup in Vietnam in my opinion. Have you tried com tam? I really like that rice dish but I agree with you, the soups and breads are the best here

@@theroamingcook i had to look up "com tam" and it looks similar to some of the Vietnamese rice dishes I've tried and again nothing to right home about. I've tried other types of Bahn mi and I'm like you, the combination Bahn mi doesn't let me down. I'm not surprised you like bun bo, its a spicy soup and I end up adding more siratcha and hoisin sauce for good measure and I'm very happy after the meal.

@@icekangz817 I was going to mention com tam as that's an amazing dish. I know Max, Sonny, Phuc Map, etc., all love it. Get Max or Phuc Map to show you the best place for it.

You know why that back street is so crowded ? Because that area is actually a “ Chợ “ ( outdoor market ). We local call it “ Chợ Xóm Chiếu “

Gary, where were you drinking IPAs? My wife and I went to Saigon after Malaysia and Thailand in 2018. Our hotel was just down from East-West Brewing, but we also stopped in at Pasteur Street Brewing and Heart of Darkness Brewing. It's amazing after being in Malaysia, which is Muslim so craft brewing isn't allowed or isn't common, and Thailand where all 'craft' beers have to be imported from Cambodia or further afield. (we won't mention that one place in north Bangkok).

We were mainly in 7 bridges which was nice. Went Pastuer obviously and I’ve been to East West before. Amazing as you say! So much cheaper than where I live in Bangkok! But there are some decent breweries here that brew in Thailand now.
