CSS Audio is famous for their DIY kits that I reviewed (CSS Audio 1td, 1tdx, 2tdx) and because I was so impressed, I decided to team up with them to create the Typhon Loudspeaker, a High-End 3 way speaker without the need of a subwoofer in your home audio that takes advantage of both the best bookshelf speaker and a floor standing speaker designs.

Honored to play a part in this video, and I really enjoyed the speakers. My only feedback for the team is that the CSS logo on the front is too high contrast and too large in proportion to the speakers. It’s a great cabinet that screams high-end, but that logo needs to be toned down (I’d size it about half off what it is currently, and go with a dark grey against the black baffle so that it’s more of a shadow/depth/textural thing and less in your face). Wonderful sound, though. I can’t say enough good things about these speakers. I seriously can’t think of a better speaker under $30K that I heard at the show.

Congratulations, Jay, Thomas, and of course, CSS Audio and Doge. Your collaborations and hard work with CSS (Jay) and Doge (Thomas) have seemed to have paid off. They are both beautiful and from the initial reviews, impressive. The better close ups of the Typhons really show the quality of craftsmanship by CSS. One day, I hope to own both.

Hi Jay thanks for coming all the way out to Axpona so we could listen to your speakers and Thomas' amp! Here are my impressions: Typhons: Soundstage depth was immediately apparent which was amazing considering that most rooms at the show just sounded 2 dimensional. As advertised these are FULL RANGE towers. The bass went deeper than anything I heard without a sub below $17k. They sounded pretty even over all frequencies with no big dips or bumps that I could tell. They have a nice tonal balance with clear highs that are not overpowered by too much bass. Center image was strong despite no toe-in. Vocals had some meat on the bones without sounding too thick or wooly. Well done! Galion: This is tough since I don't have much experience with amps but I did get to compare it with the Norma. I'd say that you could tell that the Norma had more power and grip on the Typhons but it wasn't a huge difference. I wouldn't have noticed it without hearing them side by side. The Galion still made the bass sound great and gave some amps powered by KT150s a run for the money. Treble was comparatively more natural and a little softer in a good way. Which is to say that for the size of the room I think the Galion was the better match. It would probably come down to a choice of presentation for most people... But then again I think the Galion can also run KT120s so who knows!

He runs modified SB Acoustics Sasandu's with high end Graphene Satori drivers with outboard active crossovers, each speaker powered by 3 Digital Amplifier Company mono Cherry amps. 87dB is not a difficult sensitivity to drive. If you look at 90% of commercial speakers, they will have a mid-80's sensitivity. CSS don't overstate the sensitivity of their speakers, but some other companies have been known to. Don't make too much of the Sensitivity spec; amp power is cheap, and if the speakers get loud enough to be fully enjoyed with modest power then everything is fine.

Nice design but some remarks, CSS logo way to large and not very classy (but CSS is already working on this 😊), why not try a little smaller midrange driver for faster sound = better imaging (specially in a 3 way design), only one finishing = hit or miss, would be nice to have more choices (for a little more $)..

I wonder if we can expect a Bundle advertisement for this pairing: CSS Typhoon by jay&Thomas Gallion Bundle. Prize for a Bundle with combined shipping? It could be a nice Website for such a combination. But who knows. But, that said, it would be funny if two Reviewers started a new Brand together. Has something as this happened ever before? Are there Plans for a project like this? The point about all this would be the money, isn´t it so? My idea would be something like a Combined Name like JT Audio or similar... Certainly knowable the CSS Speaker, but it is sold under a new Brand Name, but everyone knows the manufacturer's CSS. Like Back in the Days of The "Sharp / Optonica" Line. Or "Toyota / Lexus"... It is some kind of joint venture with the side effect that the names Thomas and Jay gain more popularity too in the audio-World! I mean, it´s always a talk about: Where are the young guns, thy new ideas? So if anybody asks: what do they two want to sell here? The answer can be: There are new Ideas we wait for! I am just dreaming... But no one knows the future!

I still do not believe that its enough power to drive those speakers, unless you are listening 1m away. 88db into 4ohms. Hard sell

were you at the Axpona show? We were hardly driving the amp to it's limit. The speakers are not hard to drive, it can easily be said it's a 8ohm speaker.

After the show we had a private demo, I remember we were not able to push the volume beyond half because it was just too loud.
