Nexus 2023-River Tyne Ferry Ride from South Shields to North Shields

Жыл бұрынIt's June 2023 and i'm in Tyneside. On this upload we take a ride on the Shields Ferry from South Shields to North, on Pride of The Tyne. Plus we see Grampian Tyne passing by, this ship appears to be in use with the Dogger Bank wind farm. My uncle had a pub in North Shields and I would go there for my holidays in the early 60s. I spent a lot of time going back and forth from North Shields to South Shields on the ferry for entertainment. It only cost 3 pence old money to go each way. In those days you could take your car onto the ferry and when I started driving I did just that. I loved North Shields, it was a thriving place then with its fishing fleet and a great shopping area. As I got older I spent a lot of happy times in the great many pubs in the town and on the quayside. Happy days.

Reminds me of Harwich Port with the ferry that goes to the Hook of Holland as well a ferry that shuttles between Gosport and Portsmouth. And from Portsmouth to the Isle of Wight.

Harwich to the Hook can hardly be compared to inshore ferries.

The Ferry from Newcastle to Amsterdam can be done as a 'Mini Cruise', but is it worth the long trip?
