Messi's skills are very predictable- runs in a straight line, taking lots of touches until slight contact with a defender and falls over. That's it. Very little variety or ingenuity.

Maradona had "less solo runs" cos the defenders karate kicked him back in the 1980s. Messi played in the softest generation of football on beautiful pitches against worse defenders.

I think he was just being humble. Ronaldinho did skills with ease and grace. Neymar can do all the skills as well but ronaldinho had way more to his game. His vision and passing and overall command over the ball is not matched by anyone. Neymar is brilliant, no doubt.. Still the best player in the world for me when he's fit.
