Still Working...So Everyone Goes Home is a follow-up to a video produced by the Fire Department of New York and the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation in 2007 to educate members about the importance of proper training and following protocol. Directed by Rob Maloney of Coolwater Multimedia, the video tells the story of the FDNY's intentional and focused effort to help improve its mission so that Everyone Goes Home®.

I felt more impressed that the FDNY so readily showed their weaknesses. It takes a lot for a department like that to do that. I love it.

Thank you FDNY for taking the time to make this video! Being a retired firefighter officer and recently started volunteering with my city's fire department, I find myself frequently coming back to re-watch this video! This video is a great reminder and importance to prioritize safety for myself and my brother and sister firefighters!

I have been both paid professional fire to volunteer and the one major issue I have found is that a lot of volunteer depts are very complacent on wearing proper PPE. I have seen brothers show up in swimming trunks and flip flops wearing an air pack, it was that day I decided I was done with this specific dept. Nothing was being enforced, training was not taken seriously. Me coming from the paid side I was able to see these major flaws and tried to point them out, but I was then labeled a know it all. I only know this! you only get 1 chance to fuk up. IF YOU SEE SOMETHING, SAY SOMETHING!

This is just my opinion but when it comes to fire training, I think there should be only 1 National standard, that way we are all trained exactly the same by the same standard. As it stands training and requirements vary state to state. Same with EMS, scope of practice varies state to state but National registry is supposed to be that single standard but it's not, in some states it is optional. Just my opinion.

as a firefighter myself I agree with safety but I also disagree with too much safety, and that is what is happening in the fire service today. the fire service today is so safe that we are less aggressive towards fire attack and we are losing more homes than ever when it comes to fire. I agree with safety and making sure that everybody gets back on the rig but we need to be more aggressive towards the fire which means taking more risk and possibly losing more men. but in return we save more lives and property which we signed up to do.

It all comes down to How you do the job, not how aggressive you are. Safety combined with Competent and Responsible fire extinguishment will still get the job done while protecting victims and firefighters. THINKING is the most important tool a leader has to prevent injuries and deaths. This is how you Prevent LODDs! facebook.com/groups/586964705182958/?ref=group_header

@@JB91710 It all comes down to doing your sworn duty to serve and protect those whom you serve. It means that every time you are on a fireground you do what the incident commander tells you to do. A probie learns that from day one. this means your communicate constantly before moving and when you have stopped. this information goes up the chain of command where it is used to make tactical decisions based on the following life over limb, risk benefit, hazard mitigation and life safety. Firefighting is inherently dangerous both responding to a call and how the fireground conditions are at the time the firefighters arrive. Not just where is the fire located and hit it with a hose stream. That is the result of a number of tactical decisions on how best to mount a fire attack with regard to both occupant and firefighter safety and rapidity of fire suppression truck rescue companies make entry and conduct a primary search and ladder the structure. Engine companies establish water supply select hose lines to use and get these hoses layed out and water flowing the goal is to have water flowing within two minutes of arrival at the fire.
