He is a traditional Catholic man who was INVITED to speak at a traditional Catholic University full of other traditional Catholics. He said nothing which wasn't official Church teaching. The audience gave him a standing ovation at the end. These are affairs of the Catholic community, if you don't like it- it's simply none of your business.

A distinct difference should be acknowledged between sexism and religious opinions. Butker is receiving backlash because of his comments about women's rights and their roles in society. He is quoted as saying that their greatest joy should be being mothers and homemakers, not in workplace jobs. Nowhere in the Bible is it said that women should not or can not be part of the working community. In fact, so many conservative and working Christian and Catholic women that I know personally have rejected his speech for that comment as it disrespects the effort that they put in to be treated fairly in their workplaces because of sexist ideas like this. Yes, he has the right to free speech, and yes, this speech was given at a conservative university. However, this does not excuse the offensive ideas he communicated.

We would much rather hear a speech from some of the NFL players who have assaulted or abused their spouses or partners, or have been charged with a sexual or other criminal act, and the NFL has no problem still keeping them on the payroll and paying them millions.

This college Religious affiliation is catholic. Giving a commencement speech that is in line with their beliefs makes absolute sense. What does not make any sense is, what exactly are all the offended individuals doing at a Catholic College listening to their commencement speech. If you don’t like their beliefs then stay away. Catholics are entitled to express their values and beliefs as well as all other individuals especially in their domain.

I dont see anything he did wrong. All he did was express about valuing family over career. The media is only overreacting.

The message he delivered was appropriate for the audience he was speaking to. If you don't like it, too bad so sad.

I’m not sure why they feel the need to mention he got a standing ovation. Do you know who else got standing ovations at their rallies? Adolf Hitler, Pol Pot, Idi Amin… you see where I’m going with this? Just because people get a standing ovation doesn’t mean that they were right and just in what they said.

I am an educated woman in my 30s and must say he is absolutely right! My greatest role is being a stay at home mom and housewife! ❤👏 and I’m so glad he actually used the word “sin”.

He is right! As a woman and mother, we were lied to! I know this firsthand! You cannot “have it all” and have quality of life. This is not an antiquated way of thinking, but a new way of thinking in that, we as women DID try to have it all and became increasingly more exhausted and depressed! Also, he was talking to Catholics at a Catholic University! As a Catholic, this is in alignment with our values. Imagine if he were a Muslim speaking at a Muslim college. I am not a mother nor am I married. My greatest accomplishment was the life I chose to live and the contribution I will make in my field of study. With that said, he was speaking to a conservative catholic college and they all hold those views. In the USA, they have a right to their views and in no way does their view keep me from practicing science.
