When you take into account how 21 of Green Bay's 31 points came off turnovers, Pittsburgh's defense actually played a pretty good game. They definitely were pretty fortunate with all the passes Green Bay's receivers dropped as well, so maybe it balances out

Yeah it was actually quite the defensive super bowl, they were the 1st and 2nd rated defenses that year 14.5 ppg aloud for the Steelers and 15 for the Packers. Interesting how high scoring it was considering this

It was decent but GB did have to go 56 yards to get the TD after the Rashard fumble I think the Packers drops cost them another 2 TDs though. The James Jones drop looked like it could have gone for 60

Yeah it’s interesting to think about for sure. Pittsburg gave GB some short fields, but then again if Nelson makes that first opportunity, and Jones makes that one catch that was dropped, then we’re looking at about 400 yards and 5TDs minimum. It could have been the best statistical performance ever by a QB in the super bowl if the receivers did what they were capable of.

If the refs hadn't ruled bens forward pass as a fumble for a greenbay defensive score, steelers would have won. Bad call that cost us the superbowl. Take that score away and we would have won by 1.

As an 8 year old Packer fan, this was one of the greatest moments of my young life. But of course now, I look at it similarly- what an amazing game. One of the most underrated super bowls imo

i’m with you. i was 7. the steelers won their 6th on my 5 birthday. and despite me remembering my 4th birthday i don’t remember that super bowl. this is the only one i remember. i remember facing the ravens. then the jets. then going to the super bowl. i was distraught when we lost. i still hold a grudge to this day lol

I remember being in Green Bay during this, the energy was wild throughout the city. The streets were packed, and the bars were full with people. It was a great win, and hell of a hangover the next day.

This super bowl was so underrated. It was so chaotic but at the same time really fun to watch. Just last year I became a football fan and when I was younger watching this I thought it had no meaning. But now looking back this was a big step for the packers and it was just a good game on both sides of the ball. I honestly and still recovering from losing the playoffs for the like 5th year in a row so I came back to watch this. No regrets. To be honest I really miss football and can’t wait for it to start back up! Go Pack Go!!

Exactly. To illustrate with stats, 2011 Green Bay's defense was ranked 14th against the rush, but dead last at 32nd against the pass. 2011 was a magical display by one of the best and most accurate season by a quarterback in nfl history in Rodgers. Evidenced by his 45 touchdowns to only 6 interceptions and a passer rating of 122.5, the highest by a quarterback for a season in nfl history

Steelers fan here, obviously not happy with the results. A couple plays could've changed the results. This SB is underrated, IMO. The Steelers made a mini-comeback in the 2nd half, and it ended up being a 1-posession game.

Revisit this every once and a while and the number of injuries Greenbay suffered from as well as the amount of dropped balls by receivers made this game way closer than it should have been

i Have three uncles, one is a Lions fan,one is a cowboys fan, and the third one is a Packers fan while I am a Patriots fan i usually watch and root for the Packers when my Patriots aren't playing with my uncle who is the Packers fan as we make fun of my other two uncles for rooting for those other two teams :P Since this year all four of our teams were playing in the postseason it was especially fun teasing and i got the last laugh

Steelers and Packers went in similar directions after this game. Rodgers and Roethlisberger are trying to get back to the Super Bowl, both teams have solid offenses with questionable defenses, suffered frustrating losses in the postseason since (Green Bay vs Seattle, Pittsburgh vs Jacksonville), and have a head coach named Mike that have come under a lot of criticism recently for the lack of success since Super Bowl 45. Yeah… though McCarthy is the definition of stagnant. He relies *far* too much on elite talent and isn’t creative at all with his playcalls. And when he is… 4th down punting play, all I have to say to any Cowboys fans out there. He’s a good person, genuinely, but my god he’s washed up when it comes to coaching.

I was 13 when this Super Bowl happened. I'd completely forgotten about the awful halftime show, or Christina Aguilera blowing the national anthem. I was too distracted after the fact by just how happy I felt getting to see my team win a Super Bowl in my lifetime for the first time. Nine years later, I'm hopeful to see it a second time, with the same captain of the ship. Go Pack Go. :)

Comparing how Rodgers looked there and how he looks now, I think this was the best Aaron has ever been. He was just perfect in every way. He had a fantastic group of receivers and his youth really showed.

+Root Note He was brilliant in that postseason - especially in the SB, and in the game at Atlanta. Then again, he's almost always brilliant. Just from the highlights, Nelson and Jones left (easily) 2 or 3 more TDs on the field - and those throws were right there. Right now, AR's banged up a little more, and his supporting cast (without Jordy) is mediocre ...still, they're considered contenders, because he's as good of an all-around QB as has ever been in the NFL.

this game taught me what being a sports fan was going to be like. shear heartbreak. this is still the only super bowl i got to see my team in and we lost. i was 7. this is why steelers fans now are so angry. we came so close so many times after but we had two impossible mountains to climb. brady. and bad calls. and now we don’t have the players that made us great.

It’s funny many thought this would be the beginning of a dynasty for the Packers, that Rodgers would win MANY more Super Bowls. 11 years later, he won 4 MVPs went to the playoffs a bunch of times, played in 4 more NFC championship games…never got back to the Super Bowl. Amazing how something that seems so sure and then it never happens.

I became a Packer fan in 2000 and missed seeing SB 31 when they beat the Pats with Favre. But watching SB 45 made up for it and this was one of if not arguably the best SB ive ever seen! And it was on the day of my birthday, so it was even better! GO PACK! 🇺🇸🏈🧀
