A lot of interesting stuff here and inside baseball (track) in some cases. Many of the fastest runners who were sprinters have to completely adjust their body which affects their speed. It’s only been a recent trend to my knowledge that it’s become common “specialists” behind skipping drills like bench press. If you’re a big bodied receiver, you should be benching. This is an enormous factor especially for shorter guys who also have to be able to perform in the bench press elements of the combine as durability is usually their red mark from scout. They then shed a lot of that combine strength weight once in the league but Combine truly can impact guys who have much more speed than their 40 shows. This was true for the likes of Tyrann mathieu by example. Very crafty, shifty back who hunted the ball but not a huge combine eye watering numbers guy. But he was still 3x 1st Team All Pro and a SB champion. Contrast that with another speed demon in Jacoby ford from 2010 where players were still doing most drills and he got his body in a position to do 15 reps but he was obviously capable of much better than a 4.28 given his 6.5 60m time and 10.01 100m time. Still doing 15 reps with that speed at 5’9 was a good showing. Bigger guys carry the weight wel to put up good strength nfl numbers. But track athletes like Jeff demps would have SMASHED John Ross record. For instance my ncaa times are faster than Ross’s fastest 100m and I was by no means an all American. Imagine a genuine all American in championship form. Well we kinda don’t have to imagine. Christian Coleman put it to rest. He ran a perfectly replicated environment of the nfl combine 40, turf and track shoes and all given John Ross for example claimed he had bolt speed if not for the turf and such which is actually why track athletes don’t go lower. Coleman OBLITERATED the nfl record at Tennessee’s facilities with their combine ready team treating it like an nfl event by a tenth of a second lol in just 40yards first try he dramatically lowered the bar by a full tenth at 4.12. Ross’ 10.7 is nothing to scoff at especially an electronic timed 10.7 in California. But Coleman’s run an Entire second faster at 9.7 for 100m. Track speed is different.

You can teach technique. You can't teach speed. No matter how much film you watch or cone drills you do, speed will out run you. That doesn't mean anyone who is fast can play well, but they aren't going to draft someone who needs a sun dial to clock their 40.
