It used to be a semi-respectable event and then it turned into a joke. Sad that they had to turn it into flag football to make it remotely entertaining again.

Al Michaels calling his first Pro Bowl in 1980 (1979 season) with Howard Cosell and Fran Tarkenton on ABC 2:55 3:57 Al was doing College Football back then. You’ll never see a season-long College Football announcer call an NFL Pro Bowl again.

@@robertsprouse9282 Al Michaels in 1979 did only College Football. He did one NFL game that year - the Pro Bowl. Very unusual and something you’ll never see again. Where’s Frank Gifford? Herbstreit did NFL TNF games all season long for Amazon in 2022 along with College Football on ESPN. Double duty.

And bragging rights too. I honestly have no idea why it doesn’t matter to players and coaches. It should be a goal to play in it, not to be selected in it. Although, football isn’t the only sport with this problem, it’s just more obvious.

@@jacksonpriestap3685 As the contracts have gotten bigger in NFL and NBA players are unwilling to risk their body over a game that doesn’t affect their team. The MLB All-Star Game winner used to get the World Series home-field advantage for a while and this was a good incentive to try. Maybe something like this could be implemented in the NFL… not sure how.

They can make the pro bowl competitive again with a few changes. 1) interceptions and recovered fumbles are now worth 2 points for the defensive team plus 6 if returned for touchdowns 2) have random 2 minute stretchs where all points scored are doubled for both teams. 3)missed field goals loose three points. 4)Sacks are worth one point. This gives the defense more inspiration to play a little harder, but still have fun as is the goal with any all star game.

I think the calendar year it was played? Because in 2011 in showed Peyton Manning passing Reggie Wayne and his last season with Colts was 2010
