Steve Smith's return to greatness was amazing in the Cam Newton Era of Carolina.

Young Cam, Smith, Luke, prime Davis, Olsen,Stewart, Charles Johnson, Greg Hardy, R Khalil, Jordan Gross… my goodness what a time to be a Carolina fan… those days are long gone.

Both teams finished 12-4 that season as I recall and both were the #2 seed. It was the second consecutive year that the Patriots finished 12-4 where they were the #2 seed behind the Broncos both times. It was the 1st time that the Panthers made the playoffs since they went 12-4 in 2008 where they were also the #2. They lost in the divisional in both cases.

I remember watching this game as a kid. This was a huge upset W for the Panthers. Cam was starting to become a superstar qb at this time (he won MVP 4 years later).

Fun fact: Tom has beaten Cam as many times as he’s lost to Philip Rivers or Andrew Luck

I was at this game. Bank of America stadium, downtown Charlotte, and a Panthers W over the Patriots, doesn't get any better than that. I was also at the Panthers Pats early regular season game in 2005. The rematch from our super bowl 38 loss. We won the 05' rematch as well. The greatest Panther of all time, Steve Smith / 89, gave the Pats secondary the fucking business every single time he laced up. 05' was 89's triple crown receiving season. Anyway, fuck the New England Patriots.
