As an observer of football both in the US and Vietnam, I'd say Lee Nguyen has made a wonderful contribution as an immigrant success story and to the style of play in both countries. This documentary does justice to his sports story and captures some of the cultural desirabilty of blending a Vietnamese and American future. Nguyen has had to make many choices to get where he is today. I'd have to say, from my remote perspective, that they've been smart ones. He gets an A in my book.

So inspiring... this gave me the chills... struggles only make us become stronger! I'm 22 years old and I'm just patiently waiting for my moment. Until then I must keep working hard ⚽️️💪🏽

As a Vietnamese and soccer fan, I am proud of Lee. You are the highest profile Vietnamese soccer Player. Not Cong Vinh, Not Cong Phuong, and Not Nguyen Cao Cuong Or anybody else

Players like him are the ones that SHOULD be in the USMNT players with heart determination and passion, I don't see that in players like Geoff Cameron, Yedlin,Altidore, and now especially Dempsey I feel like the hype and attention the USMNT has received since the end of the 2014 World Cup has somewhat changed the mentality of some of these players they need to realize the name and badge in the front is bigger than the one on the back

i have a similar story soccer was the first thing my mom enrolled me into at the age of 5...but along my childhood and adolescent years she had me try out all sorts of other stuff from hockey to ice skating, swimming, boy scouts, all sorts of stuff but the only thing that remained through it all in the background was soccer. at age 27 im still enjoying the beautiful game playing it every week with friends.

All we do is Nguyen Nguyen no matter what! Haha, love it when a fellow Vietnamese player makes it big time! Keeps the dream alive for us. Sorta like Dat Nguyen in the NFL. Was always my dream to make the pros (outdoor or indoor). Won state cups, lost in regionals as a youth got very close to nationals, and played college ball. I remember playing vs Dallas Texans in the Dallas Cup but I believe Lee was a year or two older than me. Just not as many chances back in the early 90s and mid 2000s before the MLS teams started youth academy teams. I sure as hell would have tried out for sporting KC youth team if that existed back in my day. I mean hell I played for a club team over 200 miles away from my home city. 3 boys from my home town made the trek for practice 2 to 3 times a week and every weekend to play for that traveling team since our city league sucked. We had the passion just not much opportunities back in the 90s and 2000s for US youth soccer. I wish USA took soccer more serious like England. I could only imagine the difference that would have made. My dream would be to have small towns have feeder teams to the MLS and make promotion/regulation a thing in the USA. Make soccer a community thing. Don’t make kids parents have to work extra overtime like mine did to afford to play on a traveling team 200 miles away from my home. Youth soccer should be FREE for any kid to play in the USA!

awesome piece, MLS. Hope Lee gets another call up to the NT. Not comparing the talent level but he's like Dempsey in the sense that he's a very technical, forward/attacking mid. we don't really have a ton of players in our pool like that. If anything he can be a great spark off the bench.
