If only EA wasnt the sole hockey game developer nowadays. Without competition they keep handing us underwhelming games year after year.

A lot of the gameplay adjustments you bring up like passing and stick checking are just gameplay slider adjustments that come pre-adjusted differently in this one to make the gameplay "different".

Game definitely looks and feels much improved. It’s just that I can’t take the same game animations anymore, the skating is terrible, the puck physics still kinda feel unrealistic. I just can’t stand that there are zero net physics when you hit the net.

I've been playing the EA play 10-hour trial and enjoying. Haven't played NHL in years but I'm finding it to be a lot of fun. I will probably buy it at full release at this point. Thanks for the video.

Agree with a lot of your points. Being 2 almost 2 weeks into playing, I can tell its definitely a game you have to grind at which i like. You need to learn to pass properly as well as deke and shoot. I would grade the visual improvements at "B", not great but not bad. I'm personally kind of a detail nerd when it comes to equipment on the players so i was a bit disappointed to see very little new equipment added to the game at launch but I do have a feeling they'll update this considerably through an update/patch.

Ah I disagree. I have been playing these games for so long now, an to me this was a waste of 100 dollars... yes 100 dollars is how much the base game cost here in Canada, I am just playing NHL 21.5. They don't have anything new in terms of goalie equipment, like the true stuff isn't there, still the same type of masks from NHL 14, Same stanley cup presentation since forever. Still the same free agent signing since 16 only have two teams to chose from with no negotiaon. NHL has a soild gameplay always has, but for $100 for NHL 22 when its all just a roster update... Don't buy please don't buy. The custom logos are still the same since 15 maybe even going back to 09.... there is so much they can add to make this a much better game than what it is. Give us back the option to play a full season in the CHL again, add the World Jr tournment to help increase our draft ranking, add a proper free like MLB the show has, Change the presentation to something new. I miss the way NHL 2002 pre game opening was. Use a stanley cup celebration like NHL 2K had, add a custom helmet maker for goalies and for when you create a team bring back the winter classic.

2K NEEDS to come back to the NHL I can't stand EA taking away from creative mode we need more stadium customization options and more goal music and horn options and don't even get me started on the jerseys but honestly it would save allot of that work by just letting us UPLOAD MUSIC VIA USB for the darn game mlb the show does it why can't more sports games incorporate that in addition sometimes we don't want a broadcasting type feel to a game sometimes we want it like we're actually live in the game like in 2k my career mode tell me why when you win a championship you not only get the celebration you get a post game interview a FREAKING PARADE and speach ceremony on stage like are you fn kidding me anyone who says there excited to play this game IS NOT A TRUE GAMER FACTS if you played games before as much and as many I have you would see the trailer they put in for this game and should be pissed off and feel discraced and open your eyes to the fact that sports games are dying and or gaming in general is dying best be getting a pc and mod to your likeness then by in to what these clowns are selling and if you buy into this game your an FN FOOL and you deserve what you get because of your ignorance

I wonder how good this game would be if the developers actually went to a hockey game and spent any time watching the sport. I appreciate that they got rid of the ridiculous animation of players flopping down whenever you touch their skate with your stick but the didn't address the fact that right after a face off, players will just rub up against each other. This happens all the time in this game. The computer will steal the puck from you just by rubbing against you while you need to hit them with a fright train to get the puck from them. I know you can adjust the sliders but, how about you try and make a realistic game without the necessity to adjust the sliders to make up for you developing a badly controlled game? I also appreciate that they made one timers less automatic that last year but they seemed to have gone a little too far the other way. The goalie will suddenly make the most insane leg save on an open one timer that defies the laws of physics. I also can't stand it when you can almost predict when you are going to get a penalty called on you when playing thr computer. The computer will trip your players quite a bit and there won't be a call but you touch the computer player's skate and he will go down and a penalty will be called. The presentation is great but I don't know what sport they were watching where players just rub up against each other after the face off and don't fall down or try and get around the other player. Oh well, I'll be well gone by the time EA hires competent people to develop their hockey game. I know I'll be dead by the time they develop a decent Madden game again.

An EA game that glitches from day one... I never would have guessed! *eye roll*I'm 42 and have played every single hockey video game released in my lifetime and EA has never released a sports game that didn't glitch. The novelty has never worn off for fans yet so they know they have us by the short and curly ones!

This will be my first NHL game since ‘04. I’m sure whatever cons were listed will be overlooked by me

Don’t be surprised if roster sharing gets delayed. EA had a similar thing with Madden where the scouting update didn’t drop at launch, but was supposed to come about a month later. It ended up not coming for 3 months. Just saying this is EA, so be prepared for a delay

More Customization in GM mode in all leagues, Memorial Cup pick host team, better tournament play, create ice, arenas, etc. More 2k customization.

For me I don’t care what the graphics look like if they aren’t HD or good maybe I’ll be like the graphics aren’t that good but the main reason I love these games is because it’s hockey I love hockey and I play these games because I enjoy watching it and playing it virtually people were saying 21 was not good and I bought it anyway and I enjoy it it’s fun in my opinion

Without doubt. This year was worth the buy. How the game behaves on the ice, feels like a new game. More fights over the puck in zones, feels Great. With a touch of changed sliders from Altito(spelling)

Haven't played one of these games since nhl 17 I think. When they removed 6v6 online play that was the last straw for me. Even with 6v6, I'm not buying an NHL game until is comes back to the PC.

Hey y’all! NHL 22 seems like a good game tbh, Seattle’s in it and frostbite is finally here! Plus roster sharing is here!!!!!! I might get it, I think it’s much better than NHL 21 however I wish some other things that aren’t in NHL 22 to be in it

As someone who played the 10 hour trial on PS5 this is the most fun I’ve had with an NHL game since 14. Gameplay feels like it rewards positioning and good decision making and graphics are genuinely great to look at. Madden and 2k continue to feel like they’re declining to me personally but this NHL game has really reignited my love for this franchise.

Big question now... is this worth $20 now or wait for NHL 23?

After 10 hours, i can't help but feel like my time and money have been wasted. i played pretty much only eashl and it somehow feels worse than it did in nhl 21. the ai goalies alone ruin the mode because they have absolutely no awareness of anything going on and alot of the time they end up putting the puck in themselves instead of covering it. the ai skaters aren't much better because for whatever reason they never sprint when they have the puck and they still have the same usual problems that EA claims to have fixed year after year. Overall, the only improvements are the graphics and the changes to the builds

It’s clear EA doesn’t give a shit about these sports games anymore. It’s time for someone who cares to take the reigns. Or let us have multiple devs like we did for decades. I miss those days of getting two or three separate nfl or nhl games.

I personally love this game. It’s also got a Pretty funny bug/glitch that can get you duplicate your draft picks to rig trading when in franchise. It’s overall just a better looking and feeling game than the previous ones.

I’ve played this game all morning and the penalties and small glitches is absolutely awful and needs to be fixed, but other than that it’s so fun

One glitch that makes me chuckle is when playing Seattle, the fans hold up a sign that says NEKARK.

I've always been into hockey since watching the mighty ducks as a kid and remember playing NHL 95 on super nintendo. I live in Georgia so not alot of places to play real hockey so this game might be right up my alley.

How is the soundtrack awful? It's the first soundtrack I've overall liked from a nhl game in a while.

They have some things to fix, on the ea play free trial it has a glitch that doesn’t tell the team that a player is on, the white background needs to go or the chem boost color needs to change from that light light green or yellow( yes I’m color blind) it blends into the white background. But so far I’m ok with nhl22 I’m just hoping they improve the game for nhl23

Ai goalies still let in short side goals even though they have the angle completely covered. It’s the same story as last year and it’s absolutely horrid.

I was playing in the "be a pro" mode. I played 80 games for Buffalo and we got a better position than Toronto. It was 3 vs 1 Buffalo vs Toronto. Man, almost all simutalions were Toronto's goal. I got injuried in the begining of the game and I simulatedm then, Toronto won. The following game, Buffalo was lead 6 vs 3, remaning 4:39, as a miracle Mathews "the cover game player" won the face off, beat all my team and scored. Toronto won by 7-6, 4 goals in 4 minutes (Does it happen in the real life?) The 7 games Totonto won, 5-4, considering 3 goals of simulation time. I played 80 games to be eliminated by a cpu handicap. That is bad, the graphics are amazing. Excellent visual, I got almost all trophies, but I strongly do not recomend this game.

BAP is more in depth with more conversations and interviews, atleast in my initial playthrough. And your not maxing out your brand, management liability, teammates like ability also, with the point ceiling being 10k rather than 1k... was so frustrated that this was never patched and the in game presentation stats aren't even accurate, man atleast make an effort to patch these issues finally after 4 years...lol

On my base PS4, cycling through the menus is terribly slow. Sometimes I wait 10 seconds for something to respond. At least the in-game play doesn’t suffer and graphics look great.

In 8 games in franchise mode I've had one powerplay. While increasing the sliders for them. Wtf?

You say the passing is harder, but I bet the CPU still goes tape to tape 90% of the time.

Ended up uninstalling this game. The only mode I like is Be A Pro. Created a centre and the game will not let me play centre. Forces me into right wing or left wing. Created 5 characters and no matter what I do, I get drafted by Seatle and forced into playing wing. What’s the point in choosing a position if the game won’t let you play it.

Fix the puck Control problem in nhl 22 ea

My buddy and I like it, most of improvements are pretty cool. We have an issue playing online... Litterally 25% of our games ended up in a never ending "Syncing" loop we had to hard quit the game, giving us the L. Rarely happening in 21 and prior...

Luckily in finland the game only cost 45€ on launch for ps5 and i somehow got sale cupon to save 35 extra so 10€ for new game not that bad, its around 12-13$

Is it just me or does it look and feel like a slightly upgraded NHL19? The font, menus, the slower and more calculated gameplay, harder to snipe coming up the wing, harder to one T, the computer scores on the stupid back door feed over and over and I can barely get one of those to go. On my first game I kept pausing to check the gameplay slides because it felt slow in comparison to 21. That said, I agree with the positives you mentioned and I’m enjoying the added challenge. 6.5 or 7 out of 10

You have to change the camera view to make it look realistic. This camera view makes it look like a ps2 game. True broadcast makes it look like an actual game on tv.

I hope they fix the puck size. Geez, I cant see the damn thing.

Due to all of the awful bugs, all of the awful ea trial glitches, the menu speeds on ps4, make this game almost unplayable in my opinion. Can’t believe I wasted $80 on this awful game. Worst gaming mistake of my life.

Waiting for a talented person to roster share the 96/ 97 Red Wings. If that's a possibility. Anything Madden related creeping into NHL makes me nervous. X Factors and Frostbite are the two.

Classic EA. Improves graphics recycles almost everything else, slaps a 75 Euros price tag on next gen consoles. Only luck for Fifa 22 that PES eFootball really effed it up this year.

Is it wrong that I am still playing NHL ‘14, and having fun with it? Yeah the rosters are old, but the Be A Pro mode is fun, and I get to have custom music in the game, etc.

PS5 and series x have been out almost a full year. It is the current gen. Ps4 and xb1 are last Gen.

Passing and playmaking are the only offensive categories where I'm really good at, and they make it harder, seemingly a reliance on X-factors. That's lame af.

Dude the last NHL I played was 14 or 15 and this looks exactly the same. I'm sure there are differences but on the surface level it appears they've simply hit a major wall. Maybe there comes a point where you just can't evolve a product any further? After all 12 months isn't much time to deliver a video game every year

Thanks for your review I'm waiting until someone plays be a pro my entire purchase hinges on wether they still have scripted matches where myself and team are not allowed to score until 3rd period where you get a challenge "just get 1" where then the AI starts acting completely different than it did the first 2 periods & as a defensive enforcer I hated that the game wanted me to play like a 1 man team when all I want to do is check people into oblivion for coming near my goalie & get an all time career record for most time spent in the box for winning fights.(My character canon plays for Boston Bruins he thinks it's still the 70s)

One thing that would be cool is if the refs didn’t call every penalty or for like offsides and stuff if they scored and if you saw a penalty or something that they didn’t call you could challenge the goal

People still disconnect on online versus if they are going to lose or its going to be a tie. There should be a penalty for online abandonment..like you can't go back online for 15 mins...its BS.

I am gonna buy it for PS4. I am buying it because I will be able to play as the Seattle Kraken. I am interested to see how the frostbite engine does in NHL and I am gonna try to mess with the X Factors and see what happens. I am playing NHL 20 and so stoked for the new game even if it has Mathew’s on the cover again.

Worst of all NHL games I've ever played. Im talking about MP. If you don't play online than game is awesome. Every single online server will lagg a lot. It is impossible to play MP so if that's what you looking for don't waste money.
