Brock Nelson showing his true colors again slashing Guenztel after an empty net goal and a very mild celly. Same guy who a few playoffs ago patted the opposing goalie on the bucket after scoring a goal only to have his head patted in the handshake line after the Isles lost the series. He’s a great player but have a tiny bit of class dude, you got no one to be mad at but yourselves for that collapse.

@@GdF420 Palmieri came in late and gave Guentzel some cross checks but if you rewatch it Nelson was slashing him before the ENG and continued after the goal and then Palmieri came in to defend Nelson when Guentzel started giving it back. This was a crazy game. This is what happens when you let this hurricanes team dominate you in the zone. At one point, they had the puck in the attacking zone for like 4 mins or so. Also, 12 SOG for the islanders is embarrassing for a playoff team. Some teams have bad games, but it's bad when you let a team beat you in the third period in the fashion that the hurricanes did. What a win for the hurricanes 🌀

Varlamov played great, although it's very much the Canes' MO to make opposing goalies have amazing days. But imo the real issue was playing half the game in a sort of prevent defense. If the Isles could have spent any time at all with the puck they win easy; as cold as the Canes can be shooting if you give them that much time they will eventually make it happen.

This should have been a blowout win for the Canes. When you get outshot 39-12 in a playoff game, you don't belong in the playoffs.

So we get a brouhaha after the empty netter because Guentzel put a little too much mustard on the shot? Really? NHL players are such babies.

I don't really watch Islanders, but is Varlanov usually so passive in net? First goal, you see his head pivot, but he doesn't move after the initial save(a little credit, he was initially trying to find the puck, but when he spots it having gone back out, he doesn't attempt to center himself in net and just puck watches from Timbuktu).
