Agree 100%. He got 3 minutes tonight. Kostin has incredible production for his minutes played and has no PP TIME. He got a goal and assist in earlier game with 6.5 minutes. That’s incredible production.

@@jonah.donohue The curse of their goalie coach, Dustin Schwartz. It's no surprise that so-called bad goalies actually perform better after leaving Edmonton, and good goalies actually perform worse once coming to Edmonton. It's quite incredible how he's still employed when goaltending is constantly this team's achilles heel.

The Oilers main weakness at this level. their lack of a sturdy defense. Skinner was an upgrade from last season but he has to be at MVP caliber if the Oilers some how survive

Oliers Management for at least a DECADE has thought you can win a Cup by offense only. They haven't figured it out, you can't. You take a lot of cap money for an average defenseman in Nurse and the "Big Two", you just aren't going to have the bucks you need for another couple of QUALITY defenseman. McDavid only wins a Cup when he goes to another team. I would bet the farm that when his contract is up, he leaves for LESS money to go to a team where he feels he can win a Cup that year or the next year.

He looked fine to me. He was tied for the team lead in hits while playing only 3:30. The Oilers could have made more use of his energy and intensity. Instead they play Yamamoto for 12:00 and all he does is take a stupid penalty and get pushed around all over the ice. Woodcroft’s favourites (Yamamoto and Bouchard) will not win this series.

"Early officiating"! What about the CRAP call in the second period with the ref making the call from the blue line and not seeing Eichel had hold of Broberg's stick----Vegas ends up with a 5 on 3 and scores twice. The second referee was right on top of the play and didn't call either one. I wouldn't call it a great series, some of these Vegas/Oilers games have been blow outs.

Funny how every Oilers fan mention that Eichel was holding Broberg's stick to get a call, but nobody mentions that Evan Bouchard did the same to Reilly Smith on the 1st penalty, that also led to a goal. It goes both ways.

And nobody says anything about a dumb referee making a call from the blue line when his partner was right on top of the play and didn't call either Eichel or Broberg. CRAP calls like that can change the outcome of a game. Vegas ended up with 5 on 3 when it should have been 5 on 4. Hrudey commented at the break on that dumb call..

I just made a post stating the same you are correct. I've been so hard on Nurse in the past I'll be the first to admit it but wow this opened my eyes tonight to how much he was missed in a game. Defense was bad but so were Yamamoto, Skinner, Kane Nuge etc. Nurse is great at trapping the pack in our end and making good plays to get it out so when we were up 2-1 I could feel a bad shift coming cause without Nurse we were struggling to get the puck out the way Nurse and his linemate Ceci normally do....

@@alexkorneev6469 Time to deal some forward talent or picks to gain Defense or get a UFA on loan to make a decent run at the cup. These guys are great, but with some decent defense they might just get over that bump they keep hitting. What they are doing isn't working and won't work long term, it will win you a round or two but it won't win 16 games.

@@biggbluh I'm honestly just salty that Maccelli didn't make it into Calder finals, I can't see any valid reason why Power and Skinnier were nominated above him. It really should've been a race between him and Beniers, but gotta say it that playing in a state like Arizona and coming from somewhere that is not The US or Canada weren't definitely helping him to get nominated. II think Skinner has been ok for this series, it's not an easy job to be a goalie for Oilers.

Power plays are part of the game and the Oilers do them better then any other team so no reason to hate here 😅. Oilers weakness is there defense which is not good enough for playoffs

Oilers scored 236 goals without PPG this season and knights 230 without PPG. So even without PP the Oilers offense is better

Yeah they really aren’t. McDavid has 7 points 5v5 this playoffs and only 82 points 5v5 in the regular season. Their best player only shows up when they have a powerplay. Works okay in the regular season when everything’s called, but each year so far it’s caught up with them in the playoffs, they’re lucky the refs have been calling as much as they have been or LA would’ve taken care of them

This one was rough. I think it popped the balloon in my remaining hope for the Oilers. So inconsistent, feeble backend, and the effective toughness from game 4 wasn’t there.

I’m a Vegas fan and think there is still plenty of series left. As a Canadian I have to also root for the last team in the playoffs. Vegas is a deep team, but as we have seen the Edmonton advantage is in capitalizing on penalties and mistakes. A desperate McJesus and Draisatl will be epic to watch next game. Good luck & cheers

It's easy to go in for a pulled goalie. There's no pressure. I don't trust Campbell to handle the pressure of starting. When he struggles, it's mental. I would be worried about him letting in a bad goal or two and costing them the series in an elimination game. And imo, Skinner hasn't cost them a game. He hasn't let in any bad goals. He hasn't always made the extra save they could have used, but he's been solid. He's also young. I expect him to continue getting better.

Lots of NHL teams have built a dynasty around one or two players. Pittsburgh with Crosby and Malkin are only one example. Do you think Ovechkin said "pay me less, i'm making too much money"?

@@nbgforlive The forensic problem with the way you attempted to spin that is The Oilers are entirely dependent on 2 players to do all the scoring . Two players account for an astonishing 129 power play points > *39%* of the teams total goal output while on the other hand the Knights top 2 regular season scorers account for only 29 PP points all season > *10%* (Jack Eichel & Chandler Stephenson) So to sum it up the Oilers stink in 5 on 5 when your only dependent on one line in 5 on 5 situations. Huge difference in GOALS against also in 5 on 5 .. Vegas is 8th in the league while the Oilers are a dismal 23rd So to absolute 100% certainty that guy is correct when he said "They aren't that lethal when 5 on 5" they actually downright stink Think on that Champ (No emoji required)

The Oilers media cracks me up. They're in the room afterwards asking players if the 5 minute powerplay was a "missed opportunity" because they only got 1 goal. 3 for 3 on the man advantage and you still refuse to look at defensive play for why you're losing games 😂. You can't score at even strength and the other team can. That's the difference.

Skinner got beat on good goals, but all could have been stopped or contested. He’s on the goal line or 1 foot out for all goals. Need to be on top of crease or an extra foot for point shots. Stones first goal was tough, but why not poke check to disrupt his move. Stone is looking down entire time. Goalies are better than ever, but there is not much creativity anymore. They generally play the same. Use your stick and challenge shooters. Basic concepts. High save % goalies at very least operate at top of crease

In fairness to him, that first goal he was at the top of the crease and Eichel spun him like a top, which is apparently not goaltender interference, so I can see him being hesitant to got near the edge of his crease after that

Oiler very hot goaltending at the end of the regular season did not carry over to the Playoffs. Oilers are on the ropes & wont hoist the cup this year.

Can anyone explain why sportsnet has all those channels but can’t put the oilers game on till after the leafs game? Such a piss off, then had to watch the post game till they finally announced they where keeping the post game on one channel and switching the others. I thought the advantage to having a east and west was to cover the different wants of their audience. Not like they didn’t have separate crews already in place.

Oilers built for the powerplay. They can't play 5-on-5. Refs will make sure Vegas visits the box at least 6 times next game. This serious will go the distance. Still to be seen if the refs will let Game 7 play out without interference or if the thumb will be on the scales for McDavid.

@@jimyeats There was a referee right on top of the play between Eichel and Broberg, so he saw both offences, chose not to make the call. What the hell is the other ref doing making the call from the blue line?! The ref behind the net was in the same camera frame as the two players---so the ref at the blue line should have been able to see his partner was right there on the play and didn't call either player.

What is the main flaw in the construction of BRUINS, MAPLE LEAFS, JETS and OILERS? A core of players of great talent surrounded by no "grinder". Do you think that's a coincidence? Not me! Some will be tempted to object to me: And what about the other series? In the other duels, the teams that compete (or have competed) are all well supplied with "grinders". The origin of this problem (recurring in the case of Boston, Toronto, Winnipeg and Edmonton) is that still too many team managements build according to the regular season and not the playoffs. Target error.

Having McDavid and Draisaitl and not getting a good or at least solid Goalie is a drama. Now Skinner is the starter?! A Goalie where you could discuss if he has t to be a NHL Backup. I think there are NHL Teams that have better 3rd Goalies than Skinner. Campbell and Nurse where 2 deicissions that prevent that the Oilers can become a serious sc contender. Perhaps 2 of the worst signings in NHL History. Do the Oilers really think they cnan wn the sanley Cup withiut a Goalie?

Think Skinner has that Vanacek disease of being great during the regular season but then being hot garbage in the postseason. It's do or die Edmonton, take a risk on Campbell, because ngl the special teams, offense and defense of the Oilers have really masked Skinner's mediocre play. In his defense, however, goals 2 and 3 weren't really his fault, Stone from a foot away in front of the net and McDavid's skate deflecting the puck wasn't really anything he could do.

@@marshallmykietyshyn4973 easy glove save on Eichel in Game 3, in fact, multiple simple glove saves and short side goals. It was so damn clear. He's let 13+ goals high glove side, LA series he let in goals that were simple post seals. Skinner hasn't been great

@@JP-pr9re you think stopping Eichel from 10' when he has all the time in the world is an easy save? Well we'll have to disagree on that one. And Skinner did seal the post on the LA goal. The puck found the one tiny hole it could have gotten through. Sometimes you just have bad luck. That tuck goes in like 1/20 times. If those two are the only "bad" goals you can think of, then I'd say he's doing a pretty good job.

@@marshallmykietyshyn4973 that failed post seal goal against the Kings happened multiple times and cost the Oilers a couple games against the Kings. They were routine plays. He's been beaten high glove side over 13+ times this postseason. Postseason success means having your goalie steal you one every once in a while. Skinner has the done that once and that was game 6 against LA, other then that game he has been meh. He has one of the worst GAA's and SV%'s amongst all postseason starters. I'll agree with you that bad luck happens and obviously it isn't going to be a shutout or 2 goals against every game but you would also have to concede that it's bad luck when it happens here and there, but it's a goaltending problem when your starter has an .890 and a 3.52 in 11 games which is the worst statistics amongst remaining goalies.

@@JP-pr9re The post play did not happen multiple times. If it did, please say when. Skinner hasn't made the extra save when they could have used it, but he hasn't been hot garbage, which is what you said originally. And I personally don't trust Campbell not to let in the actual bad goals (which I still say Skinner has not let in), costing the Oilers a game. In this case, that would cost them the series.

Wow I'll be the first to admit I was really hard on Nurse back before Christmas when he was playing sloppy but tonight really showed how important he is tonight in his absence once we were up 2-1. Reffing has been very very poor in this series on both sides but wow they really messed this game up with some brutal calls. In the end this loss is the Oilers fault though. Skinner looked shaky, Nuge looks lost, Yamamoto was a mess getting thrown around like a doll, Kane has been invisible, Bouchard is missing a lot of his point shots and all of a sudden Draisaitl fell asleep. With the power play opportunities we did get tonight we should have had 2 goals on that 5 minute major. I am going to chalk this game up to messy all around by the majority of the team and some crummy reffing. Oilers are good enough to win 2 straight still and with Nurse coming back next game I'm hoping we blow them out back in Edmonton and then fight to the bloody end game 7 in Vegas. Majority of the analysts predicted this would go to 7 games anyways so I have faith the Oil will win the next in spectacular fashion!! Just a sad loss tonight and that Broburg call was pretty lame.....

Bouchard is terrible in his own end and Yamamoto hasn’t seen a penalty that he doesn’t like. If the Oilers somehow manage to win the series, it won’t be because of those two.

Bouchard though I can let him off the hook for some of his dumb plays if he keeps contributing with those Bouch bombs and he is young and I believe he will be great in the next few years but hell, Yamamoto though I agree he's abysmal. Kane has been a ghost on the ice and tonight we really needed a guy like Nuge to step up too. So this game really sucked the life out of Oilers fan but deep down I blame us being without Nurse the most, horrible sloppy Yamamoto, and noome else stepping up in a critical game like a Nuge, Kane Mcleod, Foegle etc

@@ianc643 thanks dude. Yah I'm a lifelong Oilers fan, 46 years. I try not to sugar coat or just blame the refs all the time. Oilers lost this game as it was truly winnable. They beat themselves. After they only got one goal on that 5 minute major and without Nurse, I had a bad feeling they would get hemmed in their zone a lot and lose the puck in transition often tonight which indeed was the dagger. Noone else stepped up either. We need a hero for nights when Mcdavid or Draisaitl get cold but right now Nuge, Kane, Foegle, Mcleod, Yamamoto, Bouchard have been cold.

6:49 The line judge gave the puck to O'David by obstructiong Stone. This one was furious and shout at the ref after the gal. Up to then Vegas was on fire during this PK.

@Michel Lauzon Were you asleep in the second period when the ref makes a call from the blue line on a play behind the net? Vegas ends up with a 5 on 3 and scores twice. The second referee was right on top of the play and didn't call Broberg or Eichel. At the break, Hrudey thought it was a bad call and thought both players should have been penalized.

@@KStewart-th4sk It's possible, but on this play, Stone was right to be furious. Mc David made a great play after, but this should neverhave happened. On this play, he took advantage of one misstep of the left Vegas defense. He his very good for that.

Lets hope the players don’t have that mentality. Good way to be off their game. They have to go into Game 6 prepared to play hard for a full 60 minutes. Be disciplined and make smart decisions. Oilers are definitely not a team they want to underestimate.

@@neverwild8122 power plays are apart of hockey, quit crying u cuck. scoring on power plays, mind you goals that are not “tap ins”, is a skill in and of itself. Being able to attract penalties is a skill as well.
