I couldn't agree more, what pisses me off is shit like the Anaheim/STL clip. You can tell Sundqvist didn't mean to hurt Gibson and put his hand on his back and leaned in to talk to him, only to get jumped by the douchebag Ducks. As a goaltender myself, I get protecting your goalie, but I've yelled and pulled my own teammates off an opposing player for that shit, especially if I know they didn't mean it or tried to check on me afterwards.

Those blocker's are built tough, and like you said typically have a piece of plastic or hard composite material running the length of each side and if they're used correctly, they're like hitting someone with a brick. People think that they're just soft pillows but they're really not. Same with some leg pads as well. I had a pair of Bauer pads that also had a hard composite material running the length and my teammates hated them because if they rushed the net during practice like our coach had them do sometimes, they would run into my pads and they always said it felt like being kicked in the legs when they hit them

Like all these other goalies getting straight bulldozed and their like "oh yeah it was an accident. Totally understandable" but not Mike Smith. Malkin barely touched him too.

@@DJ_Mooster firstly, PROTECT YOUR GOALIE is the #1 rule of EVERY hockey game/league/team ever, if your goalie gets hit for any reason you protect him, even if Gibson puts himself in that position to have a chance at getting player has to try to move to the other side of him or stop, he kept his speed and ran into him, and I know how hard it is to stop on a dime like that but idc what anybody says, protect your goalie is the first thing you look at and think when your goalie gets hit, any level of hockey, Ik you said that there’s a level of protecting and what not but even if he checks to see if he’s okay, the game moves at a pace of a car on the highway, even if he checked it was like .2 seconds of him turning till he got rushed by player of the ducks

A goalie could go fucking halfway to the ice and get checked and people would still protect the goalies dumb ass. Protecting the goalie being rule 1 can be incredibly flawed

I agree and disagree. In most instances (begind the net), their backs are exposed, which is still boarding or charging. However, with instances when they come out past the slot to play the puck, fair game.

Yeah, I'm all for goalies outside the crease being fair game. However, you can't leave your feet prior to the initial contact.
