Connor McDavid notched the first hat trick of the 2022-2023 NHL season, and the Edmonton Oilers won their home-opener by defeating the Vancouver Canucks 5-3.

That being said the oilers seen an open door and took it lol also the oilers for the past few seasons are a team when being down even in the third will make a comeback 🤷‍♂️

Yes, and it served as the game's turning point. But considering the 3-0 lead, coupled with numerous PPs, the Canucks had ample opportunity to bury any ideas of a comeback. Sadly, the game was theirs to win, but they couldn't do it. That said, its game 1 of the year. Hopefully, they'll learn from this and play a better game in Philly. Or, the defense will be shaky on the lower lines, they'll be exposed as anticipated, and the West Coast will be served yet another year of great expectations not realized. If this occurs, expect Bruce to be gone and significant changes to the team's core. Hope I'm wrong about the latter possible future.

If you mean on the first goal, the contact was with Kane, not Draisaitl (so, no, you're wrong on that point). But, yeah... the 8 PPs that the Canucks got definitely weren't fair at all.

Canucks fan, but GG Oilers. Yeah the hit on Hughes and missed penalty was bad, but our defence folded and left Demko out to dry. Short handed 3-0?? Oilers were the better team in the second half. Also it’s just the first game. Both of these teams are gonna rock it this year.

After this first game: - the oilers look like a mean team. This team looks like that great combination of talent and physical. That goal song, bringing back the late 90s and early 2000s techno goal song is awesome. Sure makes the goal song here in Toronto look like garbage. - king Leon looks nasty again. -Evander Kane might be quickly becoming one of my favourite players in the nhl, everyone loves a comeback story. -Soup played great. Let some weak ones in but shut the door when the team needed it and that’s what you need from a starting goalie. - Aaaaand Mcdavid, what can you not say about this guy that’s already been said. He said he wanted to score more this year, and he comes out with a hatrick in his first game.

The Oil do not have the D to support their mediocre goalie. Oil have Leaf syndrome where they delusionally think they can out gun all oncomers.

As a Leafs fan, let me explain to all the Oilers fans how much you'll LOVE Campbell... he's just such a Team guy that the boys will always give 110% in front of him. I can definitely see you guys going DEEP in the playoffs with this team. Sloppy plays by Edmonton gave Vancouver a good start, like the Holloway giveaway. Sloppy plays by Vancouver caused them to lose, like that pass attempt on the power play that led to a 3 on 1 the other way. Kane could have scored the empty netter but that was a good pass to McDavid who had a better angle.

It's unfortunate that highlights nowadays consist of just the goals (sometimes not all of them), a few hits, and the odd spectacular save every now and then. I feel like this highlight pack is missing a few highlights, most notably Jack Campbell's save on a JT Miller breakaway when it was 3-2 Vancouver, or his hit on a Canucks forward.
