Also helps them potentially get the Pens 1st round pick this season but for that to happen Penguins need to win more than they have been as it's a top 10 protected pick. Either way even if they don't get the pick not a big deal as it will just carry over to next season where the pick isn't protected at all. Which might be the better option and the Pens are getting older and older. And it would mean SJS would have 3 first round picks in 2025

Was surprised and glad to see Granlund come back. Pittsburgh’s draft pick is interesting because the sharks own it. Their FO will have to decide whether to give the sharks the pick if it ends up in the top 10 or let it slide to an unprotected 2024 first.

Can't believe the comments saying this was a good win for the Pens. Yea I guess any win is good but they beat the SJS just the worst team in the league who at this point has maybe 2 legit top 6 forwards. And one good defensemen along with a rookie goalie in net. They traded for EK thinking they were a contender yet right now have the 4th fewest points in the East. Honestly in a lot of ways they remind me of the Sharks after 2019 before their collapse into a floundering bottom feeder trying to rebuild. In that both had aging rosters where most all of their top guys were getting up there in age. Both thought they still had a few years left in the tank to try and contend so they signed or traded for EK only to quickly realize they no longer were good enough to compete for the cup. I don't follow the Pens so for all I know maybe a bunch of their aging players are on expiring contracts unlike the Sharks who were stuck with those players on long contract and maybe the Pens have a deep prospect pool although hard to think that would be the case as never is for teams that were good for long stretches.

I thought Lemieux getting more involved with management this year would've helped. But I think he was stuck with the various contracts and personnel. As you implied, the big question is 'can they unload the old and slow now that they've committed to them for this season?' Id hate to see the +/- for Letang and Malkin for instance...

@@jamaldee2355The problem is that the other terrible teams like San Jose are rebuilding… Pittsburgh on the other hand is planning on having no prospects or chance at the playoffs for the next few years minimum. Then a few more years to rebuild.

The Pens scored 0 goals vs the Oilers (4-0) and Capitals (6-0). The Pens scored 1 goal vs the Oilers (6-1) and Bruins (5-1). Hey look a 6 spot for the Capitals and Oilers.
