What a great tribute to a legendary broadcaster!! Few possess the talent to tell a story - on the fly - in such a way that if you close your eyes, you can envision EVERYTHING that's going on - Bob Cole was such a guy!! His enthusiasm through every play - building as the game went on - perfection! For over 40 years of my life, he was the voice of hockey - Hockey Night In Canada - every Saturday night...Oh Baby...RIP Bob!

My favorite Bob Cole call was when Steve Yzerman scored in double OT against the Blues in 1996.

Bob Cole was amazing, I grew up thinking of him as the voice of hockey. The way he intensified what was happening on the ice, especially in the last minute, made the game so much more fun to watch. I'm not a Leafs fan and never have been, but I will never forget one of the OT calls Bob Cole made where Stumpy Thomas deked past a few players and scored the game winning goal for the Leafs. The way Cole called it, it was like he knew after the first move that Thomas was going to do something special at that moment. Bob Cole made the wow moments feel even more intense and so much more entertaining to watch.

Him and Foster Hewitt are the pinnacles of hockey broadcasting in my opinion. There are other great play-by-play broadcasters: Rick Jeanerette, Gary Thorne, Doc Emrick, maybe a handful of others. But they really captured the spirit of hockey.
