Brett Howden netted the golden goal in overtime with a weird bank shot off of Dallas Stars goalie Jake Oettinger to secure a 4-3 win for the Vegas Golden Knights in Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals.

@@nathanadrian7797 really the rule is never spin. If he rains his base butterfly and get the left pad back to the post he can diffuse the situation. He’s an amazing goalie but he was so frenetic there. Have a bless day. Hope the stars win in 7.

@@levinelson434 Completely agree, no need for the 360 lol.. as a goalie though, it is way easier to spin out on fresh ice. Pair that with the panic of not knowing which side of the net the puck was going. Not as easy as it seems

On the 2 on 1 I would have loved to see Eichel fake pass and put it upstairs in the corner. He had space and time and with his shot, he could have easily scored. I love that he's become an assist machine, but I'm feeling like he should shoot more. Was awesome to see Blueger get a goal. He's been a chemistry guy and has done a great job defensively. Whitecloud & Hague are two of the most under-rated D in the league. They are solid and often contribute offensively. If the VGK can contain Hintz they should be able to win the series. If they ever get their PP sorted out look out.

Agreed, a lot of fan bases like to trash talk but between these last 4 teams the willingness to grind out a win is insane, nobody is escaping these series without some kind of fatigue. Although the canes panthers series stating with 4ot has to be taxing

@7:45. Incidental contact on goaltender. Clearly contact goaltender skate in blue paint without being pushed. Very similar to yesterday waive off goal. Should be no goal.

7:48 Outside the blue paint and didn't affect the goalie's ability to ultimately stop the shot. The reason he was spinning wildly is because after the puck went behind the net the goalie mistakenly "read" the play as a wraparound and started to try and cover the far post, and Howden brought it back short side. Btw, for clarity watch it in slo mo and you'll see Howden's left skate never once entered the crease. You're welcome for the hockey lesson.

I know game 1s are usually each team feeling each other out but I like how Vegas played for most of the game and glad they got the win. Besides some failed clears, Hill with too many rebounds, and VGK letting their foot off the gas in the 3rd, they kept the pressure up. I expect Dallas to push back. It's going to be a great series. GKG!

I thought so too until they showed the replay and it was clear that Suter shoved Kolesar right into Oettinger. Strong play by Kolesar. Boneheaded move by Suter.

@@charleyhorse1864 suter gave a slight push, but kolesar was already making contact on his own. Terrible call. Compare this to the panthers goal that was called back for barely touching goalies skate, actually helping Anderson from sliding further out of position. Refs gave Vegas a free win.

@James McKay if you look, the whole reason kolesar ran into Oett is cause his left skate was lifted off the ice. This was caused by the stick of Heiskanen first, then Suter made it worse by shoving him after he was already off balance headed into the crease. No goalie interference here, Kolesar had no ability to avoid contact Oettinger due to both Miro and Suter ergo it's a good goal.

If this series goes beyond game 5, stars will lose. Heiskanen and suter cannot play over 30 minutes every game, suter is almost 40 yrs old.

looked like he thought it was a pass to the front and was trying to turn around as fast as possible and realized too late/midspin it was a bank shot off his own ass. I think it looked stupid the same way a soccer goalie falling the wrong way in a shoot out looks stupid: he thought he had the read and was wrong but if he wasn't he would've given himself the best chance to make a stop.

Fresh ice. A lot less friction between your pads and the ice makes it harder to control your movements. Especially if you have to react in an awkward way like he did.

Reason often is that the trailing team takes more shots in order to get lucky. And Dallas trailed during the game.

I HATE the play off overtime hockey rules. The regular season overtime is excellent. I’m not going to stay up all night to watch two teams exhausted try to score that final goal. It’s hard on the players and it’s boring. Do the regular season 3on 3 shoot out.

Not even close. I've said all season his injury changed him and he's not been close to the same player. Waaaaay too many 3-4+ goal games and they rarely win when he's that bad. 0-5 when allowing 4+ goals 2-5 when allowing 3+. 0-3 in OT and same in Game 1s these playoffs allowing 4 ga and a sv% below .900. NOT going to cut it.

They also weren’t giving up a million breakaways, 2 on 1’s, and 3 on 2’s last year. They need to tighten up but by no means should they go back to that purely defensive style tho. The way they play now, there is no way he will be as good as last year. For the most part he was pretty solid He gave them a chance to win but on that OT goal you cant have the whole team puck watching.

Вегас и Флорида - в этом розыгрыше Кубка, в своем давлении на соперника, очень близки по стилю игры. Правда, Флорида еще судей должна переигрывать: вчера мне это не так явно виделось, но сегодняшний фрагмент с третьей шайбой Вегаса - прямо указывает на это). So, basically: just enter the zone with speed and Dallas becomes a junior hockey team. Great scouting by Vegas. Stars can't handle when a player enters the zone with speed, it creates instant chaos. 3 of the 4 goals came about that way. I love Miro and Hintz, but it shows that Heiskanen is playing way too much. He is worn out and 2 of the goals are on him, when he just glides around when Stars are under massive pressure.

Unless a miracle happens Vegas win this series. Having home ice, a ton of talent and winning Game 1 are factors that can be difficult for the best opponents to overcome. We will see how it goes but Dallas had to win this game more than Vegas to have a better shot of going back to the Stanley Cup finals

Literally 3 of the 4 goals were flukey.. 2 of them were bounces of the backboards that if they were replacable players would do it all the time and the other was arguably a no goal. At least more of a no goal than the actual no goal against Florida last night

If that would have been the Oilers the OT goal would have been called back for goalie interference. But it's Vegas... so the refs don't bother them.

Coilers will never win anything with playoffs plugs like rnh, kane, hyman. Just a poorly constructed 2 player team with no defense and garbage goaltending. But go ahead and keep blaming the refs, keep ruminating over and over like a mental patient.

Oettinger shoulda just dived to cover Stone's shot, not do a counterclockwise spin to score on his own net. Clockwise spin woulda worked too to prevent it from going inbound.

there was contact from Howden as he skated by that started him spinning,,, and then it looked like Howden might have been going for the wrap around on the far post so the goalie was just scrambling to get back into the net and then he got hit with the bank shot. should have just dived to cover Stone;s shot? it's clear you dont understand anything about physics. and that was a pass not a shot.

The reply clearly shows Kolesar on a path to avoid the goalie until Suter shoved him into the goalie. If you have to blame someone, blame Suter, not the officials.

Oettinger. What was THAT? Never, NEVER, turn your back on the puck. That was just horribly played. Goalie coach has got to get on him for that. That's a rookie mistake, not a 8 year pro in the conference final mistake.
