Man... it's sad the Eric guy passed away. He seems like such a cool dude with a love for life, gone too soon.

Eric was like the son John Never had. They look great together. Funny when he said he was thinking about telling John he was dating Courtney but it would make him mad and better. Just think if John hadn't started to build his next generation empire how many more races and championships would he have won. He originally had the syntec car for R&D and when Tony took the championship trophy from him, he realized he could build for the next generation. Ironic in this episode he faced Tony Pedregon in the finals. Tony left JFR to form his own team and got his butt whipped int he final round by the car he used to drive. If Eric didn't die in 2007, I think he would have been a huge star and won lots of races and many championships. His legacy though was telling the NHRA that their chassis wasn't safe so a new one was designed in the aftermath as a result of his death. Proved to be needed as John Force was nearly killed 6 months later. Had he been in the old chassis we would be without John Force.

This was my favorite episode looking back on it now it is funny, touching and bittersweet to see how John truly did love Eric like a son. It is also cool to look back on this and see how big of a goofball Eric was

This episode is sad after this episode Team Force lost two drivers. Medlen was killed at Gainesville in the first round of qualifications, two races later Scott Kalitta was killed in a fiery crash at Indy, and six races after that Kenny Bernstein of DSR bumped John on the starting line and popped his tires. John hit the wall and his car broke in half both cars were destroyed and John was sent to the hospital. The race ended with a fist fight in the pit which lead Kenny Bernstein and Tony Schumacher to be disqualified from competition and DSR got fined by the NHRA for bad sportsmanship and sabotage after things The Don said about John Force went pubic. Because of those accidents John Force, Ron Capps, Kalitta Motorsports, and Hurco opened up a testing facility in Indy where race cars are tested to make sure what happened to Medlen, Kalitta, and John does not happen to other drivers and the NHRA bans sabotage. Rule 1. is all chassis need to be solid steel and magnaflux bead. Aluminum and rosin core solder can not be used neither car stick welds. Rule 2. and this is what caused the Kalitta crash all cockpits need to be made of carbon fiber and flammable material is not allowed. Kalitta was killed because 2006 was the year NHRA switched from steel bodies to the fiberglass shell which is used by Ford. Fiberglass burns in a crash so NHRA banned the material and all cars need to be made of carbon fiber and carbon nylon which don't burn. Rule 3. Every cockpit needs a fire suppression system and the body needs to be designed to be ejected or the panels need to open up if there is a fire. Rule 4. All cars need to have Bell breaks and the wires need to be in a location where they will not get snagged or cut. Also cars don't go past the two mile mark that Jet and Prostock go and parachutes need to deploy if the brakes fail. also if the chutes or brakes fail the car needs an auto shutoff which kills the engine so it does not exceed 400 Medlen was killed because his brakes failed and they were tampered with and his chutes did not deploy all they found of him was bits and pieces of his body on the perimeter road. and Rule 5.all engine parts must come from Hurco no trading them with other teams only the valve cover and the manifold can come from the car manufacture. Because of these rules These teams opened The Medlen Project and its goal is to make cars safer so no one dies in the NHRA. Changes made all cars have auto shutoff this is so a Medlen type wreck never happens, all cars have a fire suppression system this is what saved John after Dallas and Alexis last year, all cars have an emergency parachute release if the car blows up chutes come out, and each car is designed to break apart or explode if the engine goes that's how John, Leah, Brittany, and several other drivers survived their crashes they all have a Medlen cockpit. With all these changes it was not enough to save Medlen or Kalitta and two years ago we lost Jessi Combs when her jet car was destroyed trying to break the land speed record. The NHRA is dangerous and we are trying to make is safer and John has dedicated half is money so has Capps, Greedo, and Kalitta Motorsports and they want cars to be safer. RIP Eric Medlen, Scott Kalitta, and Jessi Combs because of you the cars of the NHRA are safer.
