Nia Long has had to ward off some rumors that she is difficult to work with on set. The rumors have been whirling around in the industry, but it became public when Nia clashed with Taraji P. Henson on the set of Empire. Nia sat down on TV ONE's Uncensored and finally addressed the "diva" rumors.

Marian Nimoh you would too if your phone wasn't ringing....People in Hollywood don't like her. She knows her time is limited and she is upset because actresses such as Kerry Washington, Taraji P Henson and Viola Davis are now getting on the covers of mainstream magazines, making money and being offered juicy movie roles... Ask anyone in the industry and they will tell you that Taraji P Henson is a joy to work with and a true professional..

Mamadou At the end of the day, if Nia comes out looking "a mess" on a show the public with clown NIA LONG. Not the makeup artists or the designers. She has put in the work and has a right to protect her brand. As she stated before, she's been doing this long enough to know what does and doesn't work for her and if you want her to stray away from what has worked in her career, you have to SHOW HER why that makes sense.

Milk&Honey For one, I don't hate Nia Long. I don't like her narcissistic personality or her condescending tone. I've met her on several occasions and she is not a nice person. Would I hire her as an actress in say a movie about a financially challenged Black single mother with two kids to raise? No. Nia does not have the depth and range to play such a part... Would I hire her for a role that requires a bitchy narcissistic attitude? Yes, because she would be playing herself and it would be easy for her. She can even wear her own personal wardrobe and have her own people do her hair and makeup. She won't even need a script....

She's CLEARLY difficult. I could tell when she was referring to herself in third person😒.Yes she's talented and beautiful. But her little nasty jokes don't humour me. I think there's truth behind it. Like there is in every joke. If someone says something that she doesn't likes, she should ignore them or just say what she gone say and keep it moving. No need to start feuds with people on set. I don't think she's so difficult that she gets herself out of work per say, but I do think she makes it hard for her fellow actors and the production team on set. And that's unnecessary. On one hand you shouting about how u paved the way for little brown girls, on the other you being the stereotypical angry or aggressive black woman. Pick a lane.

I believe it...all of it. She dated a famous basketball player, some years back, and myself and other "mere mortals" had the experience of being in her presence, when he brought her to church - nasty, funky attitude and clearly thought she was the best being on the planet. Humility is a character trait celebrities OFTEN lack, so it's not surprising. The interesting part is Nia isn't even A-list.

They said the same thing about Jennifer Lawrence and shes the highest paid woman in show business so, I guess attitudes are accepted, it jst depends on the person. You have all these white women pulling the vagina card saying they've been disenfranchised because they are women and ppl fall in line to help them. A black woman says ppl are calling her "difficult" aka ANGRY (beloved stereotype) because shes black and all of a sudden ppl are "tired of the race card" and nod their head in agreement that all black women are angry. Hell I heard Steve Harvey doesn't even talk to his staff in the morning, have you seen his career suffer? Maybe Nia needs a dick and then ppl will be more accepting of her "attitude" and call her a boss instead of a black bitch!

She has a commanding personality! Some ppl are too weak or intimidated to handle that! Especially from a black woman! She is fabulous HUNTY & collecting these coins while the jealous hags run their irrelevant mouths! She stay with a role and a check so she must not be too “difficult” I don’t see her being blackballed! 👀 And what’s wrong with not allowing their staff to fuck up her hair and makeup when she knows it’s unflattering? All black women say “I don’t like different ppl in my head” or it’s “ difficult to find the best shade of makeup” for our skin tone. So if she directs them to the best of both FOR HER, why is that a problem? Y’all clown how Tamar face be YELLOW but her neck is brown on set of her tv shows.. and thats because she DOESNT check the makeup artist l! When you’re black, you gotta be on top of them cuz they’ll have us looking a mess!

Listen, my old job had me working with a lot of celebs. People I thought were sooo sweet. These "commanding personalities" made requests by raising their hand and snapping for me. Would be 4hrs late for their appointment and demand that you remain until they decide to arrive EVEN when the place has closed and threaten you if you leave. They would require that you do not speak directly to them. You talk to the assistant and the assistant talks to them even when they are right in front of your face! A couple times, the "crazy rumors" I saw in the magazines.....I witnessed first hand. They are extremely rude, demeaning, and bully those in lower positions to get what they want. And I don't get how people, assume that they know a person just because of what they see on tv. Their job is to make you believe what's in front of you is real. When the cameras are off they are a different person. So just as you think they are "strong" because they know what they want, I am not "weak" because I say I will not tolerate the way you treat me. Monique at the very least, went in depth about the specific instances people called her difficult. She just talked about hair and makeup. I bet it had nothing to do with that. She probably felt like she didn't need to pay.

Tati Moon it was literally hair and makeup that filed the complaint on the set of empire 😂😂 so you bet wrong! That’s why she specifically said that! And I don’t care l! they let Mariah Carey half white blond ass get away with being a LAZY bitch-diva that admits she’s late and mean. So don’t come for the brown skin chick just because she’s not going to let someone make her look like a cloudy faced cadaver with frizzy hair. It’s like how black women bring their own shampoo and conditioner for the stylist to use cuz other brands make their hair dry or to avoid a conditioner that’s mixed with perm. Or when we go to MUA’s for prom and weddings and give them our own trusty foundation to use. If you know what works for you, you know! And you’re not changing on it. They felt like thy could tell a grown ass woman that she was wrong and they are “professionals” that know better and their ego was hit when she came with her own product and service. Probably some QUEENS because everyone knows the gay community has a rep for coming at women like they can be better at anything we can do. 🙄 and if they’re on lee Daniels payroll, i wouldn’t be surprised because he’s a sellout diva queen himself that spews that same woman comparing narrative

I don't understand the hypocrisy of people. Monique was labeled the same thing by the SAME people from Empire. But then you have SInbad on the Breakfast Club saying he was called a "militant" black man. Now what is the difference? All of them were particular about what they wanted. The difference with Monique is that she lashed back out loud in response to Lee Daniels, etc at how wrong they were. And because she spoke out loud she gets black-balled. Somebody gotta be that chick that fights back. Everybody can't sit back and be quiet. All of us need that friend that's going to get up and yell "That ain't right!" So I can't give Monique the side-eye for calling people out. At least we know more of the truth what goes on behind the scenes.

Not just that, but folks need to ask why they are asking what happened to certain celebs. Why they don't see a particular celeb in movies, TV anymore. Some left, some are more theatre folks, but there are those that were so rude, so difficult to work with that no one wanted to. A few may give them roles (usually fans), but they learn real quick why no one wants to cast them.

I believe she is difficult. I've met people who met her personally who said she came across as fake and not friendly. Just because she has been in the industry and has gotten work does not mean she's not difficult. I personally don't like that the fact that she stated that all brown girls are exactly beautifully "complicated". Personally, she comes across smug and disingenuous. I believe in being assertive but you don't have to be a diva or have an attitude. I like the roles she has played in but her roles are not on the level of Angela Bassett, Taraji P. Henson, Viola Davis, or even Regina King, all of which who are brown or dark and you have never heard of them being difficult or "complicated".

It could be true that she is difficult. It's not impossible. I'm sure there are some Black actresses that are not nice or nice/nasty. It's a possibility she may be one them. I could be wrong. At the same time, I've been here almost half a century and what I pick up on people have not been wrong. I'm not saying you're wrong or trying diminish your opinions or how you feel but at the same time I stand behind what I perceive or pick up. I appreciate your feedback and responding respectfully. I can believe that. My Mom met her in 1995 (a year after I was born), and she was walking in the park on La Cienega with me in a stroller and Nia was nearby with her son. Anyways, Mom was walking and she happened to see her, and of course in a situation of recognizing someone and needing to look closer or do a double take, just glanced. But when she just simply looked at Nia, Nia got an attitude and left in a huff, and Mom didn't even say or do anything and understandably that turned her off. Mom telling me that was enough for me to know that Nia was a diva with an attitude and that's very off putting. There's a difference between being confident and assertive and knowing what you want while still being humble and classy, and being a straight up diva with an attitude and thinking too highly of yourself. Nia fits into the second so I can definitely believe it.

Many years later she also saw Jennifer Holliday when she and a choir had to go sing at a Christmas concert called "The Color of Christmas" and backstage, she saw her with a few people and said Jennifer was the same way--rude, nasty, snobbish, stuck up and divaish with a "better than you"-type attitude that rubbed her the wrong way. Palesa Floret Exactly. Plenty of people out there that are complex and somewhat complicated but are still likeable and have some class. Nia's not one of them and imo she's trying too hard in that area in order to beat around the fact that, she is a diva in need of an attitude and personality adjustment. But as you said, so many people don't get that and just take the "Well she just has a strong personality" route and then try to pull the race comparison card into it.

Nia might not be as difficult as they say she is. I think that she voices what it is that she requires and she wants things done a certain way like her hair for instance. You can't tell people how to feel comfortable with their hair. That kind of happened to me when i went out of state with my bf and his family. A relative of his was getting married and on the day of the wedding, one of the relatives were having a difficult time straightening my hair or whatever. Her and another chick were trying to convince me to twist it up or something and I told them that I preferred for my hair to be straightened. There were no arguments, no tanrums, I was just talking and they did what they could( my hair got frizzed out quick!! I wish i was wearing my natural hair then like I do now). We get back and my bf told me that they said I was acting crazy over my hair, which, I was not. People just don't like doing what you ask of them. They want shit their way and when you know what you want and voice it, somehow you are the bad guy. Just saying

Ms. E obviously you don't understand movie making or Hollywood... lesson, and please read carefully... I have a movie script and in this script there is a character name Joyce, she has French braids and wears purple lipstick and her wardrobe is described as Bargain Basement... I hire Nia Long to play Joyce, Nia's salary is $200,000 for two months of principal shooting...Contracts are signed... Day one of shooting: Nia is in hair and makeup and she complains that she doesn't look good in purple lipstick and she does not like braids or the cheap wardrobe. Nia refuses to be filmed looking like this... Okay, what do I do? Nia is more concern with her own personal vanity than with the structure of the character I hired her to play. Nia is being difficult. I telephone the studio bosses and we all agree to release Nia from her contract (we fire her).. We call Regina King who is now available. Regina steps in, loves the character and owns it!! 6 month later: Regina King is on the red carpet during awards season collecting accolades from the film industry while Nia is watching this on tv.... People are tapping me on the shoulders asking me what happened to hiring Nia Long, I tell them she was fired because she was difficult to work with...Word spreads within the industry.. Oscar night: And the Oscar goes too.... Regina King!!!

Mamadou Aziza obviously you don't understand my comment and why I made it. I said, she might not be as difficult as they say. Keyword: might. My point was that none of us truly know how she is behind the scenes except for the people she works with. And as women its so easy for us to get called all these names simply for speaking up. I can lean a little towards Nia's side because I have had a couple of experiences myself being accused of doing something I didn't. But if she really is so difficult then that's her money and career she is messing up

I think that you did a great job explaining that. I agree with you. I would like to think much better of Nia and how she is portrayed because I have been watching her from way back in the day. But I have always gotten the impression that there was more to the whole Empire fiasko. That maybe it's not that Nia was being difficult as it is she was being particular. Simply because Empire does have a bad habit of casting darker complected women in bad lights and making them look horrible. Not just the roles that they play but everything from their hair, makeup💄, and wardrobe. That is the reason I stopped watching Empire. One of the biggest things that I love about her was she always beautiful. I saw brown ground television that look like me. She made brown girls proud because she presented herself in a good light and her hair and makeup was always on point. So when I heard about the fall out with Empire that's the very first thing I thought of. I thought that maybe they were trying to make her look bad like they always do to dark skin women on that show and she was not having it. From the clip you're showing me I can see where she might be a little particular in other areas but I don't put it past the fact that Empire may have been trying to make her look bad and she just was not going for it. Empire was not going to make her look bad. She made sure her hair and her makeup and her wardrobe looked right and I do not blame her.

Being particular can be misunderstood to mean a person is difficult. Being particular means a person think for themselves regarding what’s in their best interest in portraying their morals, ethics and values. That’s how I perceive Nia. She’s not a pushover. She’s not one to be easily manipulated and influenced in any way contrary to who she is. She’s a serious kind of person with a clear and logical mindset. In any case, she has the right to be ‘particular’, a viewpoint you shared. How very insightful and accurate in my view. And Nia, you have excellent ‘brown’, no change needed. If your ‘brown’ is too much for some Hollywood roles it’s okay, you’re beautiful as you are just the same. You are aging beautifully.

Wow I never realized she went through the Diva attitude thing. She looks so pleasant and sweet. It shows how much we really do not know them. I think it's fair to say we love her and others celebrity work, but we truly don't know these people or what they have going on in their life. They are human just like us.

Yeah one minute her career is going good and then the next thing we don't see her for a while..It's not always easy in Hollywood so if she wants a steady, consistent acting career it's best to try to stay humble and not difficult ..Being difficult will cause some people not to want to hire or work with her.

I've always heard abt Nia's behavior and it wasn't abt hair and makeup. This came frm regular folks who work at airports and are drivers. They say she's nasty and rude.

I didn't want to believe she was a diva back in the day because I WAS a fan, but found it to be true based on personal experience. Not to mention hearing the same exact thing from two good friends of mine. She is Pretty and a decent actor, but has been snobbish and rude to fans. There is no excuse for that sort of behavior. SMH

I think she maybe difficult. I love her in whatever movie or show she maybe in. I do think she very confident, strong, picky, difficult, snobbish, can't tell her shit, beautiful black woman. I also think that's why she she hasn't gone further than she should've in acting. She's bomb but don't nobody wanna deal with difficult. "This chair is terrible" girl do the interview and get outta there😂 but I still love her and sanaa Lathan😉

There is absolutely nothing wrong with knowing your worth, handling your business and expecting respect. However, there is a real problem when you cross the line to become, condescending, nasty and rude to others. There is no excuse for that.
