This is an exciting hike with excellent views of the Niagara River gorge and also a chance to get a little closer to the fast-moving river. I went with my 3-year-old grandson, and he loved it.
Beside the parking on top of the cliff, there is a park which is mostly wheelchair and stroller accessible. Here you can see the Niagara River with its rapids and deep gorge.
Then a metal staircase takes you down the cliff to a few kilometres of trail loops. The trails are hilly with lots of rocks and roots. There are some areas with drop-offs, so if you have children with you, watch them carefully.
You might even see the Niagara Jet Boat battling the rapids on the river while on this hike.
This park is a stop on a long bike and walking trail that goes from Niagara Falls to Niagara on the Lake (this is also a Bruce Trail side trail). The bike trail is paved and is separated from the road. This is part of a larger cycling route (the Niagara Circle Route) that forms a loop from Lake Ontario to Lake Erie, along the Niagara River on one side and the Welland Canal on the other.
This area has many other attractions nearby, including Niagara Falls, and there is a WEGO bus that stops at these different attractions.
