It is no longer possible to deal with today's threats acting alone. It is needed to join forces and act immediately. To overcome poverty, pandemics, warming, and future challenges. Humankind can save the planet by introducing new technologies. Get away from the war, get closer to saving the planet. #YESBraisntorming

Niall talk like a nazi and it's dangerous to invite him in a serious debate that will help shape the world future. This forum has so bias I think you should add more space for Asia, Africa, middle East as a guess and see who get more applaud. Fareed Zakaria is more intellectual, knowledge and issue bade debate. Niall seems to still stuck in 1950s mindset.

I don't understand people like Fareed Zakaria. My parents left the east to be in the west because they searched a better life. I assume he did the same. Then, whilst he lives in the west, he seems to relish its decline and talk up regimes that we ran away from. It's a strange mentality probably borne out of anger because of some of the racism in the west 20 or 30 years ago.

While the West continues to treat climate change like a hot potato, by passing blame and ducking responsibilities, China is taking its own path in practical action instead of words. Yes China continues to rely on coal, but so do every other countries that relies on gas and petroleum because people have to live. What is different is that China is already the world leader in wind, solar, and electrical vehicles, and it is the world leader in green energy technology research and investment, the dividends of which is incidentally the only hope for solving the climate crisis.

Neil Ferguson is a very interesting Scotsman,and writes interesting history books But he had this stint in some Chinese university. Ever since then he has been anti Chinese . My guess is that his ideas didn't carry much enthusiasm there. He must realize that he has only Adam Smith in his background. But the Chinese have been toying with ideas for over 3000 years.

Why not challenge both countries USA and China to a competition to see which country will come up first in tackling climate change. There should be diplomats able to come up with measurements to determine the winner. Both countries will want to win. It’s time for wild ideas.

China will do what China deems to be in its interest, regardless of the US attitude! The past few decades being a case in point! Ferguson’s argument definitely has legs. China suffers from pollution and also needs a new driver for its economy and has already focused on green energy! Competitive incentive might just prove to be a better strategy!

Distrust is more for America. The US walked away from Paris Climate accord for 4 years. Then it back bossing everybody around. Can we trust it won't walk away again in 2024 ? Same for JCPOA. Signed it, dissed it, re-negoatiating it. Impossible for any parties involved to trust America. Too many other examples to include here.

Some points to debunk both speakers: Niall's comment on China being the greatest polluter may be true by numbers, but when you take into the fact that it is the world's factory, this share of the pollution should also be shared by the consumers of its goods which is the rest of the world and the West being a major contributor to the demand. Also, until the recent souring of relationship between Australia and China, Australia was the major supplier of coal to China. So some amount of China's carbon emissions should fall on Australia. On Fareed's argument that China is not an Orwellian state can be easily debunked once you understand how completely the CCP controls the thoughts and actions of its citizens by censoring and controlling information using the great firewall, monitoring it's citizens via technology, punishing them even if they report the truth if the image of CCP is tarnished. China under CCP is a totalitarian Orwellian state.

@@zootsoot2006 Have the CCP signed something like the JCPOA and broke it ? The signed it and stuck with it. The US broke it. Kindly provide examples of CCP breaking signed agreements. Ultimately no great power cannot be trusted in diplomatic sense. They can only be trusted to act according to their national interests. It is Realpolitique by definition. Neil isn't perfect, but he's better than Fareed here. How about winning the new Cold War and then getting on to problems that need global governance?
@joem0088
@joem0088 2 жыл бұрын
@@wyatdick1 The last time a cold war was won, USSR contained itself with the Iron Curtain followed by internal collapse. Containing China is much less likely as it is already the greatest trading nation on earth with partners around the world most of them non-West. As to the collapse of China it had been predicted every year since 2001 by the famous Gordon Chang, when Chinese GDP was 5% of today. If he held his breath he would have died long ago. There is Global governance, call the UN. The US abuses it, does its own hegemonic, full spectrum dominance thing ... If by global governance you mean the unipolar moment, the US had it for a couple of decades. All we got during those End of History years was Made in USA Global Financial Crisis, fake WMD war in Iraq, never ending war in Afghanistan, Syria and Yemen, a bunch of millions of dead, starving displace war victims, a vast open air prison call Palestine, mountains of US military hardware in Saudi, a mountain of printed green backs to buy up the world's goodies ... govt bonds increasing unwanted now held by the Fed by the trillions, not to mention your private WS, BLM, Capital Insurrection and other hot domestic parties. I think a lot of people will vote for Let's have more choices, more History, more fresh Possiblities, Second chances, and don't ever mention that End of History delusional exceptionalism crap again.
