Omega Weapon is not only the toughest monster in Final Fantasy 8 Remastered but he is quite possibly the encounter that has had the most strategies devised to aid in taking him down. Now, some of those methods involve cheesy concepts that ensure he is dead even before the party takes a single point of damage. Don't get me wrong - those can be fun, but sometimes its cool to do things the old fashioned way :)
For this video I decided AGAINST using the following:
Selphie's 'The End' (one shots Omega).
The new Remastered battle toggles / cheats.
Any Hero type items.
Now clearly, due to Omega's insane health of 1.2million, this fight is made for limit breaks. I settled on using Squall and Irvine for damage though both Rinoa and Zell provide great options too. A defensive third character is also useful and for me, Quistis is going to be fulfilling that role.

Tip for squall, cast blind on him. his hit of 255 means he'll never miss even if blind so it has no negative effect, but having blind status on him increases his crisis level meaning a higher chance of lionheart. Blind is actually a buff to him.

Hey guys. Ignore this it doesn’t work. Instead get Irvine to cast shotgun ammo on squall and when critical use renzokuken, this increases the chance of squall getting lionheart by 73% there are various videos on KZfaq swearing by this method.

This was a really great explanation of the mechanics of this fight, I had been throwing myself at the battle time and time again and not making any progress. I hadn't been using GFs very much in my run so I had no idea about Doomtrain and Cerberus' effects, which made the setup of the fight so much easier, and despite losing Cerberus during my final attempt when trying to reapply Triple I was somehow able to squeak by. Thanks for the video, and I'll definitely be subscribing to the channel!

I’ve killed Omega before with Squall, Rinoa and Zell. I truly don’t remember what I did but I recall being all over the place during the fight. Heart racing, sweaty palms, y’know, the works. Can’t wait to take it on again. :p

I remember my first time with it...It was pure luck, cause I forgot to heal my character before battleand have Selphie in yellow number and her first attack was "the end"...so I kill it with one "hit"

The Zell limit between his two two button attacks with. 13 second clock is one of my favorite methods. Obviously add in a lion heart or two and it’s night night.

3x Initiative > Not Zell uses 1000 compatibility Doomtrain > Other not Zell uses Aura on Zell > Zell uses Duel > Up; Down / Right, Left until you win.

I sell all my potions and hi-potions and i use auto-potion. So when omega weapon leaves all my party with 1 hp they imediately use the x-potion. The same happens when omega uses gravija. Oh, and one more thing: don't forget to buy 99 x-potions for this trick.

Interesting strategy . Very exhaustive listingnof omega's patterns. I remember casting aura on irvine and squall , then i would put hero on everyone to protect them. Thanks again for the great video ..👍

First of all, congratulations! Don't care to much for trophies myself but doing a 100% run on any final fantasy is a pretty big task in itself. Secondly: ugh, Lightning returns... I hated that game.

I did this under even stricter conditions: no Aura or Defend. Although this didn't really make the fight harder, just longer as I couldn't spam limit breaks quite as often. I also dealt with Terra Break using a party afflicted with Zombie and Protect, and then healed using Tornado (junction for 100% absorb wind).

Great video! I just beat Omega last night after watching this. I wanted to beat Omega "properly" without invincibility but was struggling until I found this. Refining 100 Megaelixir from the Bahumut card and using Defend were great tips! I was using Curaga before which wasn't always getting me up to 9999 so Megaexlir made that so much easier, especially when someone got KO'd so Triple wasn't active anymore. Also Terra Break was wiping me out pretty easily. Protect on everyone and Defend allowed 1 or 2 characters to survive that. I put Vit+40% and Spr+40% on everyone who had it, to reduce the damage from Terra Break a bit too. Also, I found Fast Ammo for Irvine to deal more damage overall than Pulse Ammo. I could only get maybe 3 or 4 shots with Pulse Ammo at 9999 damage each but Fast Ammo was getting me 2000 damage per shot and reliably about 40 shots! I also lucked out and got Lionheart twice so that made things a little shorter.

One of my most nostalgic bosses to face. I can't wait to face it again in Remaster but I'm just tying some loose ends in disc 3 at the moment. My approach would be Squall and Irvine possessing Defend on either side and Meteor Wing Rinoa so it is one less micromanaging on my part. I'm also doing the Cerberus + Doomtrain opener into Rinoa casting Aura then she can go into Meteor Wing for the duration of the fight. The other two will just limit break manually and support as the situation requires. Also in my playthrough, everyone has auto-protect/shell/haste so I don't need to waste turns casting those status conditions. Either Squall or Irvine also has Cover, which means they can shield Rinoa along with their Defend. My aim is to finish the fight before Light Pillar due to my no KO game. With Rinoa going ham with Meteor Wing at ludicrous speed, she should get enough damage in for Squall + Irvine to meet with their own limit breaks.

After Megiddo Flame, you can use Quistis' White Wind to get your health back as well in case you didn't refine the Bahamit card for those Megalixirs.

Fast Ammo on Irvine is also pretty good. If you're at a high crisis level you can easily outdamage the slow Hyper shots with the added time.

I used Squal, Irvine and Zell. I did use Holy war and Hero but I could have gotten away with not using them. Also I was able to in game with all GFs equipt on 3 characters in the correct order and using the special found Stat items I was able to get all three with all the stat abilities except one on one character and it was Evasion or Luck but am not sure. Also I thought Megido Flame does damage to bring the characters HP down to 1 and not fixed. Been a while since I last played though.

I pronounce this boss' name 'oh-may-ga' even :D :D :D Regarding accent thing, as a language specialist it's not bothering me one bit. I watch KZfaq for content ...so long as I could understand what you are saying everything is fine. About Irvine, I prefer using AP ammos over Pulse ammos for higher DPS. In my playthrough, Pulse ammo has longer reload time than AP ammo. I can spam about 2-3 shots more while keeping 9999 damage with a decent ATK-junction on Ivrine, and AP ammo is way cheaper and easier to produce (10 sharp spikes and all is set ... Triple Triad is broken!) along the gameplay. Hope this tip helps some people and I truly appreciate you bringing my favorite game of all time back to live again. My heartfelt gratitude and hope to make it tonight for the finale!

I remember being able to cheese about 200k damage out of zells limit break by following some of the simplier combo patterns and getting to the point of being able to input them in like .2/3 sec on controller, meaning if zell got one of his lenghter timers on his limit - you could do about 30~40 hits for 4~5k. It was a real easy pattern like dolphin dive > beat rush? > combo > dolphin. or something similar. ahh good times...

Give him a lot of strength and luck and he should easily break 7k a hit especially on crits. Also just repeat punch rush and booyah over and over (being the shortest inputs at 2 buttons each) and you could get several times the 150k or so from lionheart

Yesterday I just managed to defeat this most nasty boss but I admit I used a bunch of hero items because it us really annoying to keep tracks of the attack routine....it took me more time than this video shows but hey, I killed Omega in the end and this is what really matters! Doesn't it?! 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻

Wow Omega was a breeze. Used Rinoa, Squall, and Selphie. Rinoa and Selphie were just support (using Aura on Squall and Holy War on the party) Squall kept using his Limit Break until the end. I also had Selphie use Meltown to weaken Omega's Defenses.

You Can Have "Defend" On 2 Characters And If You Cast "Break" On The 3rd Character, That Also Nulls All Damage Even Terra Break.

You Can Use Siren's "Treatment" Ability To "Cure" That Afterwards And Then Continue Your "Onslaught" Against Him. When I Did The Battle Against Him In My Livestream I Actually Used Squall, Zell, And Rinoa. I Had Squall And Zell Do ALL The Damage While Having Rinoa As My "Primary Standby-Healer-Backup" Character. IRONICALLY, An "Angelo Search" AND "Angelo Rush" COUNTER HAPPENED In That Battle At The SAME TIME! I Got A "Jet Engine" From The Angelo Search.

I did this boss fight about a month ago. I had selphie, my healer, squall, the physical attacker, and rinoa, the black mage attacker. I used aura on all three of them, used rinoa’ angel wing and let her cast meteor, though I had a few hiccups when she casted other spells, used squall’s renzokuken and possibly lionheart, and selphie mostly was the resident white mage casting full life and using full cure. Took about 40 minutes during which time my attackers were pretty… pretty pummeled by the attacks, made a bit worse because I only had defend on selphie, but I managed to persevere, and on my first try no less. It felt good nonetheless to pummel this guy.

I did a low level run and the dreaded Omega weapon turned out to be a joke. He never got off an attack on me. I'll try a level 100 run next time for a more challenging Omega encounter.

Active team's average lvl determines Omega's hp. Minimum of 111k to a max of 1.161 mil (pulled from an old ff8 guidebook I own)

Using phoenix pinion at the beging could help, if all pary members are dead there is around 25 % chance that phoenix will apear and revive them.

I enjoyed this fight, although I could not always rely on Quistis' White Wind, as it didn't always heal the party. So I used Megalixirs almost every other turn. Luckily I had a Bahamut card that I was able to refine into 100 Megalixirs.

I've never actually attempted Omega Weapon before. But I have a perfect save file I'm working on (very slowly, over the course of the past 8 years, lol). I'm nearing the point where I'll fight him. Basically, since I want every character and GF to have a death count of 0, I need to use Hero or Holy War items, so that insta-kill attack doesn't knock me out. From the explanation here, that sounds completely unavoidable, to use those items.

It’s been 3 or 4 years since I’ve played ff8. Here’s how I beat omega. Squall, Rinoa and Xxx (don’t matter) Rinoa and squall have ultimate weapons, Rinoa has NO offensive magic except meteor. Squall and Xxx are immune to death. He casts death, kills Rinoa. Squall uses Phoenix down. Rinoa goes into her limit break and essentially in berserk mode except with magic. Since meteor is her only offense spell she spams it continually. Xxx casts meltdown, squall casts aura on himself and xxx drops megalixir. Spam squalls limit breaker and Rinoa casting meteor over and over makes quick work of him.

I prefer Zell over irvine and Rinoa over Quistis (though mighty guard is tempting) avoid learning most of Rinoa's Angelo tricks that aren't invincible moon (limit break version of holy war i.e. party wide invincible status) and Zell with high strength, luck, and fast inputs puts out more damage than anyone with his limit break (rapidly input booyah and punch rush over and over instead of going for a finisher) if the target has vit 0 applied.

Have all characters speed at around 140, Aura and HP down to 1 while spamming limit breaks and Omega won't get a turn

2 ways you could have improved the fight: 1) Cast Meltdown instead of summoning Doomtrain. The main effect to inflict here is Vit-0 which Meltdown does ably (Doomtrain heals Omega). 2) Hold off on the heals right after Megido Flame, instead choosing to pound on Omega with your limit breaks, to fully exploit this max-crisis-level window. Heal only when you see Gravijia used.

I've been using Squall, Zell and Rinoa for most of the game so they are around level 45, but the other three party members are only like level 15, and Selphie is level 9... do I have to use this party or are their strategies using Rinoa or Zell? Also what level should I be for this fight and to get 9999 health?

For rinoa, I recommend junctioning something strong to her magic like ultima and triple to her speed, then removing all spells except meteor, and then after casting haste on her, and maybe triple but idk if her limit break would affect that, have her use her angel wing limit break and let her do the work, she casts it automatically without any depletion of the spell. For zell, get him to max crisis level via aura and getting his health to 1, have his strength at 255 via ultima, then using his duel limit break, basically spam the commands for punch rush and booya until time runs out. , and be fast. This has been dubbed Armageddon fist by the community.

So I beat it today and... wow, because I actually did a low level game, I got away with two auras, meltdown, two renzokukens plus one lion heart, and zell's armageddon fist. Amazing how it feels to beat this thing after not being able to beat it at childhood when you didn't understand the game super well

Ez tip. Get zell str to 255, aura him and low health, spam his duel on him using only punch rush and booya. You'll get him in no time.

the old tried and true strategy back in the day was using the 10 Holy Wars the gilgamesh card would give you or the 100 heros from the laguna card while using doomtrain and stuff. Auto Haste and iniative are a must. depending on the heros and the holy wars didnt feel very sporty though. Thats super bosses for you. Omega from FF5 (who is actually a completely different monster entirely) was pretty specific too in strategy. he did pretty predictable behaviour too. I always though it was lame though. you dont win cause you fight impressively, its cause you ran around and gathered specific things, and that dont feel like an accomplishment really.

Collins dictionary says that the Americans say it both ways:Oh'me'ga and Oh'may'ga with the stress on the second syllable. For the UK, it gives stress on the first syllable: Oh'mi'ga. I guess we have all been saying it the American way.

Instead of using Irvine, Zell would have been a better choice. The old punch rush/booya combo, aka Armageddon fist, with high enough strength and crisis level 4 for longer time limit. With optimal inputs Zell should be able to solo the boss all by himself

I'm playing the older version (FF8 for steam). And I just now beat him.. I feel I did it the "old fashioned" way.. no matter what people say omega, easy etc.. well he's not (for someone who hasn't googled things and is playing the first time) :D. I had lev 100 squall, ~80 irvine, ~80 quistis. Consumed 3x hero potions with Quistis + got one lucky phoenix resurrect. Spent ~60x pulse ammo and closer to 10 renzokukens with 9999's flying around I was really starting to feel this guy simply cannot die.. But I just kicked his ass. Approximately 7th try etc. Uh I've never even tried defend skill and also it seems that terra break can be mitigated by floating (doh!)

I beat him with all the ladies. Had quistis doing shockwave pulsar, rinoa using angel+meteor, and had selphie throw potions at omega to make him not attack. Took about 5 min 🤗

As far as I know ... only Vit-0 works on Omega Weapon. Go for Meltdown or GF Doomtrain to make your life easier.

trinquisitor_th TH also, if you’re not properly equipped or leveled, casting Meltdown would be a better choice. Omega Weapon could attack whomever is summoning Doomtrain and kill him. Either way, Vit 0 is helpful in this fight, and also reduces Spirit to 0 as well. Not too many people realize that

It's funny in the FF8 difficulty mod instead of changing the levels or spells and stats of omega, all they did was remove his attack pattern. Ever tried to kill something that spams Terra Break and Megiddo Flame constantly?

Yes. But you tear through that ammo far faster than pulse ammo. So stick to pulse ammo for the most part as it's the most efficient for a longer drawn out battle

What's cheesy about hero potions? I took him out it didn't feel cheesy as sqaul was the last man standing with less than 100 hp. I would resurrect some one only to have them die straight away so kept doing his limit. On your screen looked like you were getting turns on mine he'd have 2 turns before I could do anything. But he's down and I've got platinum 😁😁😁😁

Hahahaaa goodluck with that. He has a one shot ability. An terra break does over 14k damage. If you spam wishing star reeaaally quickly. But im not sure if it would work.

@@zenaasura1769 better off not even learning wishing star, go for invincible moon, its your only way of soloing him as otherwise your dead when light pillar hits. melt down and tripple cast meteor is your damage choice, and use invincible moon any time your not invulnerable.

Agreeed because it’s not like its strategy for a non cheese method. He just repeats a pattern. It’s a grind not a true battle IMO. I feel like they just give these bosses 1 hit attacks and an arbitrary HP limit and say here try and beat it. No real thought or strategy to it.

Quistis can be spamming White Wind instead. Notice you Mighty Guard did absolutely nothing and you had to Triple cast Aura anyway. Doing so avoids any use of MegaElixir. Not sure why you are just wasting Quistis away. Mighty Guard, White Wind, Might Guard, White Wind and repeat.

Considering ff8's difficulty was based on the average lvl of your active team...Omega has any where from 111k to 1.161 mil up (pulled these numbers right from an old ff8 guidebook I've had for YEARS) keep your team lvls low enough and you could end the fight with just the 1 lion heart or a zell duel beat down via spamming punch rush and booyah repeatedly
