That Link "Fire Temple" level is based on the Fire Temple from Ocarina of Time. It's a bit abstract, but I noticed some stuff. The lowering of the pillar for access to Volvagia (Bowser). The Flare Dancer (Bowser Jr.). Pushing the block that lifts you upward (the thwomp with the launcher on it). The room with fire chasing you. Pretty cool!

To trick someone I would have multiple pipes that go in and out of the sub world then have a jump over a gap full of vines that hides the flagpole and on the other side it would have a pipe also spikes under the vines and around
