Quick correction, the actors (specifically Dafne Keen) never stated the fights were going to surpass TPM’s fights, but instead used those fights as the bar and wanted to surpass the bar. A small usage of rewording but it means a lot, she gives a lot of respect to the original film’s fights. Ik it doesn’t mean like a big difference but don’t want it to sound like these actors are cocky about their work lol.

@@rubenjz5748 There's a massive difference. The Acolyte guy said multiple times in official promotional interviews that the main villain of the OT (and Vader was the main villain up until RoTJ) is the person who destroyed the biggest threat to the galaxy. That's not the same as mistakenly saying a minor side character who is best known for saying "What about the droid attack on the Wookies?" was killed by Wookies instead of Clones. The power level to force push a bunch of Jedis is ridiculous. Not sure if the lore talks this through, but Jedi knights and masters can typically defend against that. It's very interesting to see what GIllard thinks is wrong with the Disney fights. The average star wars fan can't precisely decipher what makes the prequel fights so good besides things like pacing, environment, atmosphere. Yes! I personally don't think that all Disney fights are bad. For example: I believe that the Lightsaber fights of Rey and Kylo are actually pretty good, because the way they fight imitates the style of the originals trilogy duels. Luke fought a litlle clumsy aswell. It makes sense taht Rey and Kylo would fight simirally because they are no jedi from the time of the prequels. But the fights from Ahsoka or esspecially The Acolyte should look like what we see in the prequel era because those Jedi and Ahsoka have been trained in the Jedi Arts and the very elegant way of fighting for years. They come from a more civilized age and their fighting should mirror that.

@Fact-fiend_1000ASMR. 2 күн бұрын
@@melkuen5223Luke was also trained by PT Jedi, but they were also past their combat peak. That was Lucas' intent with the PT duels, to show what Jedi were truly capable of back in the day. I would argue that Old Republic Jedi were even better, generally speaking. Considering that they battled Sith more often in countless battles.

Personally i dont think the fights are that bad, but whats missing with them is proper character writing and writing in general, luke vs vader was not a great fight but after weve seen it once we will remember it for the rest of our lives because of what it mattered to character, story and to us as audience. Good writing is a key for us to care about the fight adn the outcome and thats the key for it to be memorable i feel.

He's a fight choreographer who happened to work on Star Wars. It's like assuming every camera operator or makeup artist is a super fan. They're just doing their jobs. It's not some impeachment of the show that he hasn't watched it. He probably hasn't watched most SW content besides the scenes he worked on.

I’ve got some things to say. The episode is 5/10 and is somehow the best episode. I like when he force pulled the Jedi onto the lightsaber and broke lightskin Hayden Christensens neck. Other than that the writing still sucks leading to some “what??” moments. I also don’t know why they said this episode would compete with the Phantom Menace because it really didn’t.
@lankeysob

5/10? That episode has been the best piece of live action Star Wars media since Revenge of the Sith. It’s easily top 3 lightsaber fights of all time too. The rest of the show hasn’t been great but that episode was peak Star Wars and people saying otherwise are 🤡

@@lankeysob yeah nothing objective about an opinion. It is shot in a horrible way, with multiple actors standing still like idiots or just derping around instead of fighting. The trees also obcsure a lot of the scene at times. If you slow it down you can see more mistakes. At one point a lightsaber hits the cortosis gauntlet and does not short out. At some other point the sabers just PASS THORUGH each other. Sol swings at air instead of Smilo-Ren multiple times. All of this is factual and you can see it for yourself lol. This fight scene is an utter dumpster fire. It is not peak anything, aside from peak of dogshite. There are also inconsistencies in skill of the fighters and flow of the battle. How can this sith kill like 5 jedi at once but struggles against a padawan? Why does he not kill 2 different opponents while he clearly has: reason, means and time to do so? Why is he leaving combatants, who still pose a threat to him, alive? How the actual f*ck does he loose a 1v1 when he just destroyed 5 jedi in a 1 v 5??? When you actually try to use logical thinking and analyze what happens in this episode it quickly becomes apparent that it is a MESS. You can like it as much as you want, but reality is what it is. These fight scense are really dumb.

@Maria_Espino
@Maria_Espino 2 күн бұрын
I said this on Twitter.... I'll reiterate it here: While I really enjoyed the fight choreography in the Acolyte, we really need to stop designing fights to be weapon vs weapon. That’s just not realistic and it shows. If you don’t know what that means or if you’re asking what are you talking about… slow these fights down (this isn’t just a Star Wars problem either) and watch the TARGETS of these swings. They’re targeting the opponent’s weapons and not the opponent in most cases. Let me know if you see what I see when you slow these fights down? Again not just a Star Wars problem, it’s a Hollywood problem. And yes there are some shows that do NOT have this problem. Shōgun is one.
@F0XD1E
@F0XD1E 2 күн бұрын
Did you gloss over the whole part where Nick said that people don't care about realism and just want something cool? If you're slowing things down to critique the fights, you've already failed. That's not how they were meant to be watched, so that's not how they were designed. Simple as that.
@hoos3014
@hoos3014 2 күн бұрын
WHY would you slow fights down to analyze them? Obviously, they are not meant to be watched that way.
@Maria_Espino
@Maria_Espino Күн бұрын
I slow them down because they look OFF to me and I’m a filmmaker and story consultant for interactive media, so I analyze things like that. What I’m saying is that it’s OBVIOUS something is not right there. And again I say this about other shows not just Star Wars. And it fails to look the same way as Nick choreographs his fights. And Nick was talking about not having a sense of realism to match the Kung Fu style of professional fighting because that’s trash. And of course it’s not supposed to be realistic because it’s a fucking laser swords for fuck’s sakes. And I’m specifically talking about TARGETS. He directs his combat to the right TARGETS. That part is obvious even when watched at natural speeds. It looks clunky and unpolished. Slow down Nick’s fights and you’ll see the glaring difference. He targets the opponent not their weapon. It’s become this new trend and we saw that shit in the sequels. It’s garbage! Collectively, stunt designers need to stop having people standing around a target doing nothing but waiting to block a weapon. It’s extremely noticeable to a LOT of people not just filmmakers. And this is where I say video game sets and the actors under mocap/perfecto do much better. Our stunt teams are amazing because they HAVE TO direct to targets and they CAN’T just have people sitting around. The immersion of video games is far greater than films so I get why it’s put more time into. But I think it shouldn’t lack in either case.
@F0XD1E
@F0XD1E Күн бұрын
@@Maria_Espino Prequels definitely suffer from the same thing. Maybe not as much, but whatever you say. No extended battle is going to be at all realistic. There are going to be tons of missed openings and unnecessary blocks. If you wanted to go at it with a magnifying glass, most fight choreography makes no sense. It's just meant to look cool. Rose tinted glasses and all that. The best, most realistic lightsaber battle is Obi-Wan vs Maul in Rebels. 3 moves and it's over. That doesn't make for very grand action sequences, though.
@hoos3014
@hoos3014 Күн бұрын
@@Maria_Espino Okay, analyzing fight choreography for professional reasons is a legitimate use case. However, I disagree that Nick's PT-era fights had more target accuracy than this episode. Even at full speed, you can look at those fights and see many times where sabers were aimed where the actor/stuntman knew where his opponent's block was going to be, even when the body was completely open. There's a memorable scene where Obi-Wan jumps almost a full second before Maul sweeps his double saber underneath. The fight in the Acolyte had the benefit of being able to "hit" Qimir because of the Cortosis mechanic. It also had more hand to hand combat, which gave it a more raw, visercal feel. And, imo, having the first part of the fight obscured behind the trees reduced some of "standing around" problem effectively.
