Nick Kyrgios: A Character Misunderstood.
Despite Nick Kyrgios’s unquestionable talent, he’s often made headlines for the wrong reasons. He’s engaged in spats via social media, sparred with umpires, frequently admitted to partying into the early hours and skipping training and when asked why he hasn’t had a coach for more than five years, he’s referred to them as a “waste of money”.
However, with his unorthodox playing style and unpredictable temperament, there’s no doubting the entertainment factor he brings to the game.
Debates rage between those who think Kyrgios is a bad role model, and those who say he brings character to a sport sometimes lacking in it - but behind the overblown furores and the underarm serves, is there a man deserving of some reappraisal?

Kyrgios is human. That's his appeal. It's exciting watching a player that can unravel at a moments notice. But frustrating when he loses because you want to see more of him in the tournament. I'm hoping he really focuses this season, he's the most talented player on the tour. Trouble is he's got a bit of a high school kid mentality. He doesn't wanna be seen as trying too hard, he gives up too easily so he can look like he doesn't care about losing. I think McEnroe understands him the best.

He had never tasted a grand win, never gone through the emotions. Now, after winning the Quarters in Wimbledon, he knows what it's all about. The sweetness, the ecstasy, of being able to win a Grand Slam.

As much as Nick hates the concept of this, he needs to have a genuine conversation with Djokovic,he is the one player that he should be looking up to. The similarity in characters of both in their early careers is apparent for all to see. But why isn't Nick seeing this.

You are reading too much unnecessarily. Nick is his own person. Non conforming. Just because he fools around does not mean he doesn’t work hard on his tennis. For some people doing too much has opposite effect. Every person has to know themselves and know clearly under what conditions they perform best. Nick plays are like gems in the rough, you never know what you are going to get. If he conforms to tennis with a traditional coach who played in the 90s with traditional education approach, it will dull his unpredictability and dull his mind, it may even depress him. He made the best decision for himself. I respect his strong sense of independence, otherwise will will not see Nick Kyrgios, we will only see another tennis player trying to imitate the top 5 tennis players. As a mother of children who play tennis, I can see that the new generations will forge a new, fresh ways to play tennis, and have their own identities. Trying to force them into what we think are good work ethics and traditional way of training may not be good for them mentally and emotionally. Let them decide what is important to them, how and on what terms they want to play. If they want to play for wins or play for fun. Not shame them when they show their emotions and vulnerabilities in a safe way. Let them play to be happy.

sorry but his 2 wins against novak are a bit overrated. They both were in 2017 where novak was losing left, right and center to everyone on tour. He started by losing to istomin in the first round of his pet slam.

To the people who call him entertaining and fun, are just not fans of tennis. People who love him are always the Fed'fans and the media, because he does what they want, "call Fed GOAT, trash talk everyone around mainly Novak, never reach a QF, entertain by court violations." He is literally the voice of every Fed'fan and media. I totally agree that he has talent, but no great player is made without dedication and hardwork. Many say "he as the ability to reach top", but to reach there you he should put in some work, which he doesn't, so he is never a good player. Its like "if i study i can top the exam, but i dont like to study". Its always "if" in nick's topic. Until unless talent and dedication/hardwork runs parallel, can never make a player. If you say "its his choice". Its well and good, but the way there's always a hype around him. Many may deny it, but im a true tennis fan, and it hurts me to see the way he is promoted. I agree he had a good run for 1-2 seasons, but from then he didn't even step on the court. Not even the tennis fan pages post about him this often, nut official atp and tennistv post 1/2 post of his replays, shots, practice sessions for every 9 posts in their official channels. Im no way saying he is shouldn't get the credit, but there are many players (recently rublev, sinner) playing an amazing tennis and many more, but no ones talks about them. To this point it's a shame, that many just surfaced players need a little attention and they can make wonders, but no, no no no. Some may call me "anti-fed" by saying this, (also saying again in only a true tennis fan) and truth is, He is the Media(fed PR) child to promote what they want(not saying he is paid or anything). Ask to yourself, (1)in the being he used to taunt about nadal, but suddenly stopped, no word about nadal again, even though nadal is same before and now, why? [ans: it doesn't fit in the story(agenda) the media is trying(even succeed) to rub on you all] (2)when he smashes a racket or makes a court violation, why are you having a fun/laugh but not disgust. but when that same is done by other, you feel it like embarrassment to sport? [ans: its being rubbed into you to see him like a saviour]. Nobody care if he wins or looses, they just want him trash-talk, in return he gets coverage. He is being used, and will continue to be used to fulfill their story, later when this all end, he will just be spited away. Its really simple in the end, and why go to that extent, You yourself dont agree with what im saying(even come up with explanations), because it doesn't fit your believing. Even if you can see the truth in it, you will not agree with it, because it doesn't fit your tight fixed believing. You're most welcome to disgust this and name me anything, and my only response would be tq, so Thank You!! (Btw, Baseline media, i came across your channel recently, I immediately fell in love your channel and i really appreciate your work and animations. Thanks to you for bringing wonderful content to us, the tennis fans. Looking forward to your upcoming videos.)

What Mcenroe told about him is absolutely correct. After winning 2-3 matches becomes self conscious and start deviating instead of focussing on Tennis. To cover it up, he comes up with all excuses. Just a waste of such gifted talent (in abundance).

John McEnroe is right about Kyrgios, about his fear of failure. That derives from low self-esteem masked by his bad-boy attitude. He is headed the wrong way unfortunately for him, and for tennis also since he is a very solid player when he wants to be, but in my opinion far from the super talent, media describes him to be. He has the big weapon in his service and he is skilled at the net, also a very crafty strategist. But there are plenty of things he should improve to be able to stay at the top, but he runs away from it which is cowardly in my opinion. Sometimes, even though I don't often show it, there is some Nick Kyrgios in me as well, so I can't blame the guy. But I cannot justify him either. He should just grow up, man up if he wants to be somebody. And all of these low blows at his colleagues and elders, like Djokovic, Nadal and some others, fanboying Federer and Murray, that is just pathetic if you ask me. He instead should improve and beat these guys consistently, compete with them, not being just some twitter warrior. I understand that in today's culture trolling has become a thing, and it makes people get a false impression of themselves as funny and cool. But trust me when I tell you, that being polite and a gentleman, even towards people that dislike you will go a long way for making us better and stronger human beings. It's easy to be a punk, it's hard to be a real man. I know that very well. I understand that Nick can't like everyone, I dig that, but it is very selfish of him not to exert more effort into his tennis career, and to become a player that he can be, a top player. I don't like selfish people, that do things only for their own benefit, which is exactly what Nick does right now with all this crap. He should be better than that, but it's his choice in the end. He in my opinion doesn't deserve respect.

Kyrgios grew up as a Tsonga fan. When he realized few years ago that MSM were Federer fans and anti Djokovic he jumped on it. He now has MSM on his side after years of bashing Djoker. He's fake and doesn't even like himself.I agree with McEnroe he's afraid of giving his best and failing. Although he does play his best against Djoker and his worst against Murray. I wish nothing but the worst for him.
