After seeing how amazing Monkie Kid is as a theme, in terms of design, aesthetic and origins as a modern reinterpretation of an ancient Chinese story, it really makes me want something along the same vein but for other ancient mythologies like Greek or Egyptian or Norse. I would love sets like Ra's sun speeder etc.

These sets are surprisingly cheap in Malaysia. They are usually $5 cheaper or if lucky, $10 cheaper. It's a pretty good theme and I now see why these builds just don't come in separate sets. Thanks, Nick

7:21 Uh... That actually explains why bootlego sets tend to be modular-sized buildings, UCS-style models of large vehicles or just big playsets with a little bit of everything crammed in. They feel like a good deal for us because they are cheap and have a lot of stuff for a low price, but they are probably expensive sets that fit what the Chinese consumers expect for the price tag by Chinese standards.

I love how the foundery is basically demon bull king army in a box you since it comes with 2 bull clones,the full demon bull family,a small vehicle and a fort

Good murning, So great to get another Mega Review! Personally none of the set of wave 2 appealled to me as a whole. I'd love to get the Silver and Gold demons, but not the builds with them. I like the tiny Demon Bull King but am a bit disappointed in the foundry especially compared to the Fortrex. And I'd love to get the Spider Queen, her bots and possibly the web side build, but not the rest. Your explanation and insight in the difference between Western and Asian culture makes absolutely sense, it explains so much. Thank you for this, can't wait to see your next video!

I’m probably going to watch this and the first one over and over again as I slowly amass these. I’ve been collecting sets from my childhood and these are finally starting to show up used online, and the old sets have WAY less pieces. Monkie Kid is probably what brought me out of a 20 year “dark age” I would’ve never imagined such a theme would come to be.

For me when it comes to story-driven Lego themes with defined, specific heroes...I'd really like more effective ways to get the range without getting a dozen duplicates of the main character or major villains. I don't want twenty Johnny Thunder just because I have the entire jungle full of ancient ivy-covered temples and all the major landmarks of Egypt with their assorted treasures to plunder. Of course I just generally prefer themes with more generic, interchangeable _factions of_ good guys and bad guys, where duplicate Crusaders, Black Falcons, Forestmen, police, and robbers are literally just getting more.

You're LEGO narrations are very entertaining and captivating. This line is one of the better original fantasy themes from LEGO, and I hope we keep getting more of them in the future. Also keep these videos coming...

Nick, I wanted to thank you for these videos. I'm a massive Ninjago fan, and while I really appreciated the designs of the first wave, I didn't feel any desire to get them. Same thing when the second wave was revealed. And then I watched your Megareview. It got me thinking, and eventually I got the White Dragon Horse Jet a few weeks after release. I really liked it, but it didn't sell me on the theme completely. So, I went along, saving some extra cash for Sokoda's BrickLink Designer set as well as the Seabound wave of Ninjago sets. I'm sure you know what happened with the former. So, after it failed, I had an extra $120, and then I saw the leak for the Bone Demon. It was really tempting even without knowing that the transformation existed. That feature sold me on it. I absolutely love it. I have since bought Sandy's Power Loader Mech and the Cloud Roadster, and haven't regretted either. Where am I going with this? Well, I also was watching your mods as well as the TV show, and you inspired me. Since Mei had a seat within the Cloud Roadster in the show, I decided to mod one in. Then I rewatched your review and saw all the transformation features in the sets. So I modded the Cloud Roadster further, making the front a trike, perfectly opposing the one from the Inferno Truck. (Even if I don't own it) Then, Mei's seat folds down in the back to create a beefy tank. In summation, I have to thank you for getting me to experience this theme, and getting me more into modding my sets. I generally only do very small changes, but after this I've gone further and loved the results. I'm looking forward to whatever comes next, Megareview or not.

I'm pretty sure Sandy's staff is a Cresent moon staff. Which were staffs used by traveling monks in ancient China. They would use it if they ever encountered any bandits on their travels. Its called a Cresent moon because the top part of the staff is shaped like a Cresent moon, meant to catch the blades of incoming swords. The monks had these weapons so that they could resort to less violent means of self defence

I want to say there was a time, roughly 10-20 years ago, when we got Lego sets that served as a decent experience all around but were also economical. One that comes to mind is ETX Alien Strike from Mars Mission. Yes conflict in a box just like nowadays, but each model was useful on its own without fighting each other: a mining Rover that can hold an alien, and a transforming alien spaceship. I do think Monkie Kid makes a good case for this, but the balances can be better. The roadster is fun being bombastic but with little purpose. Whereas the included cart and flyer is just small enough to work but could have been slightly wider for ease of play IMO. Sandy's Speedboat is fine for the amount of stuff included, but there's drastic differences for how they're used as a single set: majority dedicated to the speedboat and not much for the cave. I get that as Sandy's lead role set of this wave this works fine, but say if the cave absorbed piece count from MK's jet board, we could've had another function like launching spiders or a second web for Sandy to rescue both MK and Pigsy. Had it for over a year and it's still growing on me. Thanks for the second wave review. I'll consider the others. And as a Brickheadz collector, it's almost embarrassing I don't have the Monkey King Brickheadz set. Then again, from what I can tell, the construction seems on the basic side compared to most I've built.

Could you make reviews for the other waves, too? Please!! I’m an old Classic and Neoclassic Space head, but these Monkie Kid sets make me happy as I was discovering new series in the 80s and 90s.

Your videos really made me take another look at the theme, which I had initially dismissed as just too childish for my tastes. You got me to realize the quality of the builds and the creativity of the theme really warrant serious consideration by AFOLs. I picked up a couple of the latest wave and am considering a few sets from the previous waves as well. They really do capture some of the spirit of the old space sets that I loved growing up. Thanks for making your videos, they really do illuminate an underappreciated theme.

Honestly, this is one of my favourite sets in the line as I really love the Mech (which sadly broke apart) and the original story it's based on, Journey to the West. Also, here in Ireland, if we get a set that's like £50 but has multiple figures plus vehicles, we're fine with it! I hope Lego does more themes like this based on old folk lore and stories

I have to wonder if LEGO initially sought the licence to create Dragonball sets knowing there was a market for such a thing, before realising a sequel to JttW would have a wider appeal and avoid the licencing costs.

What’s so great about this theme is that almost all characters and most of their accessories are available on Bricks and Pieces, I saved a good $350 on this theme

Hopefully mk does so well that we're gonna get equivalent to the ninjago city sets...Hopefully

I don’t know if you’ll see this since its been a year, but I’ve noticed that the american/western lego fan’s views on lego is very similar to the average 40k fan’s view on GW’s pricing, 60-70 bucks or euros for 10 extremely well sculpted and detailed terminators probably shouldn’t be too expensive in the eyes of GW, thats 2 squads on the tabletop after all, especially since the box comes with a big decal sheet and multiple different parts you can use to load up your terminators with different weapons, but it is a lot to us, a lot of people can’t just drop 70 euros or 60 bucks on what is essentially 2 squads when you need way more than just 2 for your massive army (a standard game of 40k has 2 armies worth 2000 points each, from what I remember terminators are usually 175 points, not a lot) I see the similarities with lego and wonder whether things are too expensive nowadays or if people aren’t getting enough money in order to comfortably be able to pay for what they enjoy

Really love the whole concept of this whole theme. Shame I will only be able to get one once in a blue moon because I live in the middle of nowhere so I would have to travel super far to get to a Lego store, and I am just a teenager so I can’t order things online

Unfortunately as much as I love the MK series, with the pricing design of the series so far, I won't be able to buy many sets. I just bought the Monkey King Mech, and I plan to buy Bone Demon to accompany him. Maybe later on I'll buy a big set for every major villain faction.

Sorii, I find it a bit laughable hearing people from the US complain about prices. In my country, if you're making 500$ a month you're among the lucky ones, and if you're a LEGO fan, unlucky. I just checked, a 99$ set is 134$ here. Good luck being a kid here in Serbia. I had to wait for the late 20s to escape low wage exploitation to start getting more than one (medium size at best) set a year.
